Welcome to "The Organ Loft" in a typical 1930s urban semi!
My name is Andrew Ellis and I'm 68 years old (as of date of writing (05/07/2022)).
I have played the organ on and off for about 55 years but have never progressed very far. The main problem being the difficulty of finding time to practice.
Now, with my own organ, I have no excuse and I am going back to the start and intend to document my progress on this channel. I hope it might encourage others and perhaps some might leave me helpful comments.
I'm starting at a point where I can't even get through a hymn without a mistake. Will I ever be able to get through a toccata or am I too old for that? Stay tuned and see what happens.

Lively? You think I can play lively? Anyway here is my attempt at Adolf Hesse piece in the book "Festal Music for manuals", simply marked 'Lively'. It's played on my Johannus Opus 377 organ connected to the Friesach sample set via Hauptwerk.

76: Joyful Adagio?

Number 16 in the book "Festal Music for manuals" is an Adagio by Francis Linley (1771 - 1800). The book also has on its cover "Music for Joyful Occasions". Adagio and Joyful and two words you don't really think of together but this piece works well as a majestic, stately piece on a full organ. I have my Opus 377 organ using Hauptwerk and the Friesnach sample set.
75: Lord Of The Rings

This is short demonstration of the Salisbury Cathedral organ (via Hauptwerk) gradually building up to full organ plus tubas. I have put together extracts from Howard Shore's music to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I understand that New Line Tunes owns the copyright to this music. I make no money from this video. I am just using extracts to demonstrate the sound of the organ from quiet to very loud

This is the well-known hymn tune to "When I survey the wondrous cross". I'm playing it on my Johannus Opus 377 organ via Hauptwerk using the Salisbury Cathedral organ sample set. The final verse uses David Willcox's arrangement.
Ah, with great anticipation, the trumpet sounded. As you know, I enjoy Opus 377 as well at home.
The ‘Anxious Organist’ knows full well the phenomenon of things going wrong when recording! The two pieces on my channel took numerous attempts. Thank you for sharing this piece - I very much enjoyed your rendition of it 😀
I enjoyed listening to this! I quite like the decrease at the end. It would work well as a prelude also - the decrease happening just as the last of the clergy take their positions. 😀

My late father played lots of pieces by TMP. As an arrogant youngster I really didn't appreciate these pieces. When he died I inherited a huge box of music much of which I discarded but I did keep the 3 volumes of TMP. Lovely, well crafted pieces that whilst lacking ambition actually work well. The book of concluding voluntaries has been a life saver on many occasions. Thank you for another lovely video.

Maybe some pulling ang reseating the cable will clear contact issues? I encountered similar problems with our LAN in the early 2000s when the weather was damp... pulling the plugs on 250 PCs got all online again
Thanks for this. It’s very frustrating when something doesn’t work or worse works sometimes and not others. I’ve got an intermittent pedal issue on my instrument (not Johannus) so I share your pain!

I quite often use this piece for funerals when the coffin comes in.

I think it was an inspired idea to put two of the interludes together to create an AA BB AA ternary form, and the ornaments and registration changes add further interest to turn two rather slight pieces into something more substantial.
Well done! You inspired me to learn this but I always make a mistake. It's not easy. I have just started organ lessons aged 62. I have joined the Exeter and district organ association. They are planning a trip to Northampton. I've a notion that is where you are based. if so you might be able to give us some tips and maybe join us.
Thank you for your comment. Don't worry about mistakes. I always make mistakes but I love playing the organ and just enjoy it, mistakes and all. I'm actually based in Stockport.
