I truly love the story of these two. It showed realness and the reality of many living back in the World War 2 era who suffered from PTSD upon return from war. It demonstrated how much it could shape and change relationships (and mindsets) like it did for William and Vera's. Their ending I found very beautiful as they found each other again and learned to still deeply love one another despite ALL they had been through.
In real life they remained together for the rest of their lives.
