Simply the best. There will never be another. A total joy to watch. As handsome as he was brilliant. Will never be forgotten. It was a privilege just to stand and watch.

Incredible horse. My absolute favourite. Watching this brings back so many fond memories and even now when I know he wins I’m on the edge of my seat watching because he’s just so good. I really miss this era of horse racing. And I really miss Kauto ❤

Tbh i am 33 and at the time he was running i didn't appreciate how good Kauto was. Especially compared to horses recently. I think from 2000 to 2017 Horse racing was absolutely stacked with quality horses.

Well, when I got into watching horse racing, it was in March 2008, I just googled "best race horse in the world" and his name came up. Became an instant fan.

So very foolish of the owner to send such a wonderful horse to do dressage.Just shows that having money doesn't always mean being knowledgeable . Could have retired at Paul Nicholl's yard and gone hunting like Denman or just been hacked out and enjoyed life. He met a sad end so altogether a bad business, that should have been avoided. He deserved better.

@Damien Montero Totally agree with you. Paul Nichols was livid when Clive Smith took him away to do dressage. As I wrote, many retired chasers love to go out and about hacking , that is natural and I am sure Paul Nichols would have found a good place for him. Maybe going out on the training gallops to oversee the other horses .It's a known fact that retired horses who are still sound, enjoy the daily routine of riding out with the youngsters whilst the trainer sits on board. Horses enjoy the company of others and this is kind and correct. Stuff the dressage! If the owner had truly wanted a dressage horse I am sure Laura Collet who took Kauto Star , could have found him one. No , he was just craving more glory for his wonderful and successful servant . Horrible man! Your views are shared by many knowledgeable supporters of racing. I am so sorry to say, that many retired chasers who cannot be bred from as the males are all geldings end up in terrible places and are often neglected. Hello Dandy, 1984 Grand National winner was thrown out in a field and left to starve until he was rescued. Don't believe for one moment that all owners of horses are good people .

@Damien Montero FTR: The mighty Arkle who broke a pedal bone on Boxing Day 1966 in the King George V chase at Kempton never ran ago. His owner , Anne Duchess of Westminster was a real horse person with class, she would never risk him. She took her darling horse home and he lived at her her place until he was euthanised at the young age of 13. Poor fellow was crippled with arthritis and there was no way that she would allow her beloved horse to hobble around in agony.; he often found it hard to get up. She would sit on his back in the field and feed him polo mints. I met Ankle several times at HOYS, he was a perfect gentleman. Sweet horse. His jumping around Cheltenham was the best ever. The only way he ever was beaten was between w as by loading him with huge weights against class horses not no hopers; he gave two and half stone to Stalbridge Colonist in the Hennessy. IMO opinion Denman could have run in a GN, he was a great handicapper. A very versatile horse , place 5 times CGCV and won 2 Hennesys.

Kauto Star was a great racehorse but a somewhat unreliable jumper. He could put in short ones and even paddle through fences on occasion.
Much of the time he jumped fine, but then stood off sometimes for no apparent reason.
I don't know how much the unreliability was just the horse or whether Walsh let him jump as he wanted.

Exotic Dancer was also an amazing horse if he had been around during a different time he would have won multiple races
