Unlike some other cooking channels where the person wastes time and talks a lot about some random things, and their videos are super long.
John gets right into the recipe within seconds and his videos are quick and his recipes are amazing and simple.

I grew up enjoying these cookies from the italian bakery in Brooklyn. My dad always got them on Friday when he got paid. Such special memories.

Oh make them. I made them for Thanksgiving. John's recipe is close to what I made for years and the one I normally make was from a friend who owned their own bakery. ❤️🙂 I'm Italian their my favorite 🥰

Definitely a labor of love. I was just in NY this weekend and grabbed a bag of these 🤩 one tip: grate the almond paste so it’s finer and incorporates well. I will be making these next week! I prefer the softer colors as you did John. Not crazy about all that food coloring.

I just love watching you bake and also laughing with you John. I couldn't decide what I wanted to make this Christmas for my neighbors but I'm sure now this is the one
I made a batch of these yesterday. The only thing I did differently was that I used some of the chocolate for the bottom as well as the top. They came out great. Enjoying them with some coffee with some amaretto added....the best!!
So after you chill one side, you flip and cover the other side with chocolate then chill again? Thanks in advance! 😊
@jessicayaviraskiba8933 Hi Jessica...it's been awhile since I last made them, but my recollection is that "chilling" wasn't actually necessary. The chocolate is applied when still warm so it kind of sets up without any refrigeration.
Man, I love the ones from the store. I can only imagine how much better fresh homemade ones are! I think the colors came out perfect!

I make them but with imitation almond extract(totally different recipe), because my nephew is allergic to all nuts. They come out so good, so even when he's not around I still use the extract :)

Mom would make one layer apricot, one raspberry. She also added chocolate to the bottom once the top set. Recipe is almost identical to mom’s. Only main difference is she made her own almond paste. Never used store bought. Always delicious!

ohh!! these are south philadelphia italian american staples. at every house at christmas along with the panettone
I make them differently with a sugar cookie recipe and a ROY G BIV color scheme. I used to let my nephew make designs with them and have fun with them before we put them in the oven. It was always a fun activity for us to do together, and he had fun making & eating them afterwards. But these look yummy!!!

I love the taste of almond but let's be honest. Almond paste isn't cheap. And with this recipe you're going to need to buy 2 rolls 🧏♀️ Thanks again... 👍

I always use almond filling instead of the paste - I find that the cookies come out with a moister texture.

Love your recipe, will definitely have to try it! We use to live in n very Italian area of Brooklyn, NY, where the bakeries there would call these cookies ‘seven layers’. So there would be a thin layer of chocolate on the top and on the bottom… hence 7 layers. Can’t wait to try this, love all your videos!!!! Happy holiday!
These are my youngest son’s FAVORITE cookie ever! I’m actually flying to spend Christmas with him, his wife and my new grandson Luca! I’ll have just over a week while there before Christmas so I might just have to try this!

I also use seedless raspberry jam rather than apricot. My secret ingredient is adding a splash of Kirsch to the jam. Enjoy!
My son loves these, but cant have dyes or gluten, so I make them without food color and use gf flour. This video has been informative and I am sure the bars I make will be greatly inproved. I always thought these were little cakes, probably whynI could not get them just right. Thank you!

Just made this and not a chance that I could get enough to spread in three of the 9 x 13 sheets so I did two sheets. They taste delicious, think I’m going to look for smaller pans.
