  • Whitewater German Prisoner of War Camp by Christopher Paetkau. Riding Mountain Field Unit. As part of the celebrations to mark the 125th anniversary of national parks in Canada, 32 student video reporters worked in the 32 Parks Canada field units across the country. It's history!--leave the photos on screen for more than a 1/2 second so you can look at it

Rommel's Afrika Corps, the weary foot soldiers of the Wehrmacht and then the very young soldiers drafted at the end of the war. No one seemed too fond of Hitler and the SS elite who had left Germany a bombed out ruin. Tens of thousands of former POW's immigrated back to the U.S. and Canada after the war - it was the happiest freest time of their lives.

There was a POW lumber camp in Frashier, Colorado where there were a group of German prisoners. There is a bar with pictures of the German soldiers marching and working.

Interesting film! Shocked to see it...lived in Dauphin from birth to age 23...and still have family there 37 yrs later...and never even heard of this. You'd think the Dauphin schools would add this to the curriculum since it is a piece of history a few miles away. smh

Hello. The song near the end of the video is by Ed Stozeck. No title was provided by the artist perhaps because at the time the song was still a work in progress. The song at the start of the video is titled Ghost of a Thousand Battles by The Dead Letters.

Very sad Canada supported war genocide on the German people by allying with the French and British who promoted another war with the enslavement document,The Treaty of Versailles. What is worse was Canadian naivety back then and today how deadly and unnecessary this document was. Too bad it's not taught in schools today. Why?
