Baseball is a simple game, so let's keep it that way. Keep working and be a more consistent player on defense then the other guys. Be a more consistent hitter. You'll earn your spot!

      +Tony P One thing I always like to do to learn how to properly get hit by a pitch or get outta the way... have them stand in the box and take BP with tennis balls or whiffle balls. Mix between throwing strikes and throwing balls at them. It won't hurt them because they aren't real baseballs, but stress the importance of rolling with the pitch and turning that front shoulder towards the catcher. Should help them out!

    I gave a question about top #2 I believe. If it’s subtle and at the last second, how does this top it from “playing you” (taking a bad hop)? The whole point of the tip (from my understanding) is to attack the back before it’s able to take a bad hop but in your demonstration you still receiving the ball off the same exact hop you normally would, just not letting it get to you, rather slightly stabbing at it. I’m not understanding how this helps for a bad hop. Please help

    • @dpbaseball
      @dpbaseball Před 5 lety

      The key is to think about staying without standing up until you are in the throwing position, by catching the ball first and drawing it up it allows you to stay down before standing up. It will also allow you to catch the ball more consistently and throw the ball with more velocity.

      Learn how to properly get hit by a pitch. Have a coach/parent throw you tennis balls or softer balls for BP. Have them mix it up, some pitches strikes where you crush them, other pitches right at you where you have to turn your front shoulder in, bring your bat down, and wear it. That will really help!

      How old are you?
      Justin has demonstrated and explained in detail the answer to your problem and how to solve your problem, get in front of your computer, slow his movements down, walk through and carbon copy his foot work and body position and movements step by step, bear in mind that getting around the ball, rounding off your body movements to the ball is a circular movement, study his first foot and body preparedness movement, now study copy and duplicate his foot work , his body movements and his route to the ball, along with his body, belly button and feet position as he approaches the ball in a ready to field and throw the ball to his target, study his route, even mark a route line in the dirt or if necessary round off some pylons for route movement guidelines. {Work on it.} Like Justin mentioned, {NEVER GET LAZY WITH YOUR FEET, {keep your feet moving,} Getting around the ball pertains to getting your front hip and front foot around the ball so as to be body aimed positioned, set and ready to throw to your target, never stand there and let ground balls come straight to you unless you have no other choice, keep your feet moving to the ball and keep them moving throughout your throwing movement to your target.
      Best of luck.

    • @CoachVic
      @CoachVic Před 6 lety

      Aidan, when the ball is hit you should quickly get your body into to a position slightly to the right side of the oncoming baseball. If I'm not mistaken, it sounds like you may be taking too much of a lateral step initially, then you have a hard time getting back to the ball. Try to take more a V-cut angle in the direction of the ball until your left hip is in line with he right side of the ball. Make sure you attack the short hop with your right-left step, through the ball. Field the ball just inside your left foot and not in the middle of your body. Let me know what happens!

    • @dpbaseball
      @dpbaseball Před 5 lety

      The key is in the initial read of the ball. Once the ball is hit if you ever feel yourself waiting on the ball you need to charge it. If you find yourself not waiting on the ball then you don't need to get around it, just make sure you catch it naturally and allow the glove to do its job.

      The exact opposite. So with a right handed player the footwork is right, left, catch... right, left throw. So for a lefty, it should be left, right, catch... left, right throw.

      +Malachi Fuller I agree, you have to have soft hands! Pushing your glove slightly forward (I'm talking an inch or two) will help take away any last second bad hops.

      Malachi Fuller you can still have soft hands doing that but what you are doing is going after the ball.

      Malachi,
      If you will very closely notice that when the heel of the glove is pushed forward properly the elbow raises up very slightly and sets the fore arm which in turn sets hand and glove into a scoop shovel angle position, otherwise the finger tips of the glove would not hug the surface/ground and allow the ball to smoothly enter the glove. Sometimes one just has to do what one has to do to get to and field a ball.
      Soft hands pertains to the flexibility of the wrist/hands led by the elbows giving, not being straight and stiff when receiving/catching a ball.
      basically those who do not keep their feet moving when necessary will usually eat the ball, so to speak.

    What if the ball is hit directly at you hard, and you don’t have time to get a good angle to get the right left right?

      It happens! The good news with hard hit balls is you have more time... so you just knock it down and make a play!
