Without fail every time he got off work no matter what time of day it was, he would come to our house and give all of us grandchildren a big hug and a kiss, even if we were sound asleep. I'll never forget and it always warms my heart to think of how my grandpa smelled of diesel exhaust and bubblegum. Lots of love to The operators out there

    Quick tip that I learned the hard way, those ratchets will dig into the side/top of those batteries and wear holes in them. You can put a cedar shim between them and the battery's to keep it from happening

    • @kipcudd7253
      @kipcudd7253 Před 2 lety +3

      Or he can use an old mud flap to put over the batteries and strap them down.

    • @kipcudd7253
      @kipcudd7253 Před 2 lety +1

      Just put it over the case of the battery not the terminals. We did it on all our tractor batteries when we farmed back in the 60's and 70's. Even used baling wire over the rubber flaps, never had a problem. Poor boys have poor ways but they work to get ya by till work slows down enough to get things in the shop.

  • @wirenut003
    @wirenut003 Před 2 lety +1

    Mike all you have to do is put a rubber door mat over the top of the batteries so the metal from the bottom of the seat do not come in contact with them. Or even glue the mat to the bottom of the seat base.

      Seen that old hack many times but it truly works!!! Surprised Jerry did not suggest it. Also loosen those straps and put a wood spanner across the tops so the straps do not eat into the corners of the batteries. Looks like a piece of one by two cut to length would work. Cheap insurance against damaging those battery cases.

    To get a sticker off in the future. Get a stripe remover wheel for a drill. Sort of like a big eraser. The best thing is it gets the sticker and the adhesive at the same time. Cleanup any residue with wax and grease remover. If you ever use one of these you will use nothing else in the future.

    A Clint’s trick worked. 😉
    He started out asking you to “help” him test the rebuilt engine and in the end he didn’t have to come all the way back to NYA not Mr. Millennial’s house to pick it back up.
    The fact that it was already plumbed up for a ripper was just the Christmas Bonus he wanted too.
    Now you just need to get the air ride seat out of the “old” 850J to swap it out for the sprung seat in the “new” 850J.

    The C8500, being a former "guv-mint" vehicle, fully understands the concept of "rode hard and put up wet." It looks to me like it does a pretty good job in a "retirement gig" where it gets a lot better care than it got in it's earler life. I watched a couple of C&C videos last weekend, seems like a pretty good outfit, and hope that "new new" dozer does you a good job.

    Random fact that I learned with Deka batteries from a Dealer and a buddy that works at East Penn manufacturing (Deka Manufacturer). Batteries with the plastic molded handle that fold down on the top of the battery are made outside of the United States when the US plant cant keep up with production quantities (forget which country they come from exactly). The batteries with the plastic strap handles are made in the Pennsylvania Manufacturing Plant. This came to light when I had a car battery swell and took it in for warranty replacement not even a year after I bought it and was told its not an uncommon occurrence with the ones made outside of the United States.
    Just noticed the straps on the 3 batteries and thought its a fun fact to mention.

    Congrats on the JD 850J, it appeared as though you were quite fond of it. Clint at C&C really does take care of his customers, seems to treat them like extended family. Good smile for the day. Thanks

    At least when dirt perfect trucks are back in the end they know that it won't take that long for you to get out of the way so there'll be polite and not hung

But with it being ex military, it doesnt look like it was abused or Mistreated.. You definietely made the right move I think...Glad to see The 850 B is back up and going. Great Video as always..

    It's not fun with cold rain.
    We are lucky, who just have
    4 feet of snow and -22 ℃ = -8 ℉.
    I'm still impressed of
    your knowledge of driving
    and reversing with a trailer.
