Dr. Sullivan, I keep my brain happy and energized by engaging it in solving scrambled words puzzles and general knowledge quizzes. Above all, I enjoy writing poetry and poetic prose while I sit out in my patio, and do my best to get enough sleep. I'm 71, and have been dealing with autoimmune conditions since 1991.

I "overcame" a hemorrhagic stroke that was almost the end of me but in the end I prevailed with a few issues still intact, that is a damaged basal ganglia and thalamus. Have you ever done a vlog on any nutritional foods and supplements one should take or consider to "smooth out" any deficits that linger? Thanks!! 😀

Due to a migrainous TIA and then developing bilateral tinnitus, I limit my caffeine intake; however as a nurse, I find it challenging to create wellness for myself after giving of myself after multiple shifts in a consistently highly stressful environment. I have several areas for improvement. I am mindful of my daily nutrition but I really need to work on my sleep hygiene.

I try to go for a very long walk every day. It connects me to nature and it's like a good time out for me. Thanks for your videos> I really appreciate that you share your knowledge. A trip to Iceland sounds very exciting.

Great to hear you’re learning about diet and exercise! It’s essential to have a good quality, long life. I follow the low carb diet with intermittent fasting and walk 2.4 miles/day. My Apple Watch helps me track my heart rate, sleep and exercise parameters.

Enjoyed your health revelations. I’m very surprised that you recommend a meditarean diet for brain wellness when you are a vegetarian. Thank you very much for your honesty. Written by a essential tremor sufferer. Joe

Thank you! Great comments here too.
I learned from Doc Michael Merzenich, plasticity pioneer, self/work/"me & my" focus has limited use in expanding neuropathways & reversing the brain declines that start in our 30s.
Our culture is consumer/predatory, "me me me." Perfect way to dumb down the brain. "MY organics, MY workout," etc, is considered a top virtue, when the planet around us that provides all this, is dying & drying up, a vast extinction of other species ongoing, because our brains are cross-eyed from self obsession, oblivious of all we owe to Earth. And the heart intelligence is disjoined from the brain.
So i have changed focus from "my" health, "my" cat & "my" kids to include the wildlife, soil health, water table, climate, trees, pollinators, etc.
Instead of "my" absurd self congratulatory workout, i get out & chop lawn out to replace with tree, native shrub & wildflower groves, extra large ventilated bird boxes (the small are too hot in climate change), terra cotta plant saucers full of fresh water for thirsty birds & butterflies, fall leaves spread around trees to hold moisture & grow fungi & firefly larvae & food for songbirds...& better soil.
What a change! The land has come to life! So has my brain!
Amazingly this one change in focus to a way bigger, eternal, Earth-vast picture, has fast improved spiritual, mental, heart & body health, & my family joins together on this happy purpose beyond "Ourselves." No squabbles now. It's like Christmas all year round-- new flowers, birds, colors, delicious air, spring peepers & whippoorwills & fall cicadas sing at night, & for the sake of wildlife & all photosensitive plants & trees, we have NO fake lighting outside at night, so tons of fireflies can find each other & we can see lots of stars. Awesome. We no longer live indoors like a deadening echoey space capsule.
If people could break themselves & the kids out of their private me-first hard space helmets, & be PART of life while they get a rare chance to help ALL beings, depression would drop, joy increase, intelligence expand & physical health would naturally grow again.
Plus we could leave a better, livable biosphere to our kids & their kids, vs a trainwreck.
    That's our Rx. It's free.

Thank you for your honesty on sharing. I am Surprised not to hear more on the spiritual side, which is my resting place. I don’t want to offend but sounds like the world of me, myself and I. Forgive me, I am 75.

How about expanding on mindfulness starting with defining it and how to pursue it

So you eat just 2 meals a day? Are you "intermittent fasting"? Or are you snacking throughout the day?
