Lava should release phones with Snapdragon processors(SD 7+ Gen 2 could be a starting point) which will allow them to engage with open source developer community which in turn would help them in the longer run wrt software development. Also, it will help their customers by allowing them to install custom roms. With mediatek, that's not possible as kernel source code is not made public.
Kernel is a part of the OS not chipset right. So how will Snapdragon chips make lava phones open source and compatible with custom roms?
@@maazshaikh5283 Kernel source code is tightly coupled with the SoC hence without releasing the source code, one cannot modify the OS or put a new one in it. Qualcomm releases the source code of kernel whereas Mediatek doesn't, that's why you'll see custom roms for SD processors only.
