- Working on bigger card sizes needs some adaption and changes from the simpler small postcard sized cards. This short program shows a progression of sizes being created as landscape subjects, but the ideas they contain also apply to other subjects on bigger card stock. Learn about mountain forms, a lake, foxgloves and a stream too.

Oh my gosh! I am blown away by your art! How you did that stream was amazing, and those Dragonflies!! I have just ordered some Encaustic Art supplies, and can't wait to get started! Awesome video, many thanks🙂
Love watching someone who knows what they are doing work!!! Beautiful work
Thanks - glad you enjoyed this :)
REALMENTE IMPRESIONANTE!!!.
I love it.
I never seen this technique used so.
Thank you for this video.
Thank you for this really good tutorial! I try it yesterday and now I have wonderful pictures! Thank you!
Eternally grateful for lesson! Even more so for the exellent camera angles for mountains, now I know where I was going wrong! More please!! Xx
wow, wow, wow thank you so much for sharing this.
..glad that these short clips might help you succeed. Just dive in and react to the best of what you find within the process. Creativity is simply waiting for us to notice with awareness. Take care to stop in time - much is often lost by over-working.
Thanks, Michael
Спасибо, Вам! Это замечательное занятие!
Hello,
nice guide! I have a business in Germany and sell there too many years your books. I myself have even a studio and give many years teaching in Encaustic. I have now also started to make videos for youtube in German Encaustic. Artistic Greetings, Tanja.
I love this. I saw my first encaustic work at an art fair last week and bought a small piece. it was actually a photo print with clear wax over it, so it wasn't as involved as this video, but still attracted me enough to buy it! I have great plans to try this art form out, we'll see if it happens!
Wow!! Amazing!! Someday, I'm going to do this!!
КЛАСНО! Очень красиво и восхитительно! Украина в ШОКе)))
This is amazing!!!
I have been playing about on my own for the last couple of years, I did see a couple of pictures being done in a craft show, as its been a while I thought i would have a refresher by watching you. I did a couple of cards lately and was offered money for one but didn't think it good enough so gave it to the person. so everyone out there just have a go its fun just dont burn yourself and go for it. Thank you for your videos as it is giving me the go ahead to try new things xxxAnnxxx

Encaustic is a fantastically versatile medium, so when you try then hopefully you will find aspects that excite and sustain your creativity. Good luck.

Wunder, Wunder, Wunderschon! Danke!
what an awesome video, some great editing!
Thanks Michelle, yeah, had a bit of a break for a while but will get back to it as time allows - glad you enjoyed :)
@PurpleJacques
The "flash point" of paper (when it spontaniously ignites) is 450C (842F) so there is no danger from an iron of ever reaching such a high temperature. You could do so with a hot air gun of the paint stripper type or with an open flame torch but never with an iron. Cotton has a self ignition temperature that is lower than paper at 407C (764F). So do not worry : )
This is amazing. Looks like you've spent days working on it. I've got to try it.
The magic of effects !!
encaustics somehow remembers me a Bob Ross style painting
Thanks for your honest opinion Michael.
Thanks - kind of you to comment.
I love this work, where can I buy the coloured waxes?
Wow!
what are the materials used here? where can i get this kind of iron ?
prekrasnooo
WOW!!!
Holy crap how'd you do that!?
Wow!!! 👏👏👏
Thanks - glad you enjoyed :)
👍👍👍
beauty
is the wax like that of wax crayon? it would make sense to go that way with them as using them like chalk pastel can get real ugly via scribbling.
.. they are a high quality meltable wax crayon block. encaustic.com/product-category/wax-block-singles/
очень красиво
Why do you use an paper tissue instead of the often used pieces of silk stockings? Is there any difference in the result of polishing? :) Thank you, this is a great video! :)
I'm a guy and just don't have any silk stockings :(
I do actually use a fine soft cotton, just very slightly dampened to get the finest polished sheen.
Bob Ross of wax. haha
piggster1234 I was just thinking that too 🙂
This leads to one of those questions (like who first decided to milk a cow, & what made them think it was a good idea?), who on earth thought, "hey, I know, I'll paint with my iron!"?
Lol, a genius, obviously!!
These paintings are gorgeous, especially the foxgloves!!!
.. just use of a convenient modern luxury I guess. A hot palette knife of large proportion! Wax painting aka encaustic, goes back 2,500 to 3,000 years - soul portraits in the Ancient Egyptian , Greek and Roman worlds ...
Please tell me what kind of blower do you use
can you do this art on a wood panel and if not, what kind of paper you use?
You can work onto wood or other rigid surfaces but each substrate will offer its own qualities. When on a rigid surface the iron and surface "snap" apart and the resulting effect is more spotty than the organic effect when one surface is flexible and therefore the iron and card "peel" off. For wood consider your own choices for primer (or not). The wax needs a good key but if it is too rough then metal tools will abrade and leave marks.
Can you not use a travel iron
can you use the wax onyupo paper
My best advice is to try is out. If that type of paper is very thin or fine then you may need to stick it onto a board after the creative process is completed. Also, if thicker application of wax is made and the support material is very flexible then the wax might crack if it is over flexed. No harm in exploring it as a material though .....
What material are the cards?
... if you search my name - Michael Bossom - then go to the art tab and look at the encaustic art link you will find international suppliers and you should get a place to find the iron and waxes. (links are not allowed to be put on this reply).
Please where can I buy the hot wax crayons or blocks
You can find them at Blick or Jerry's artarama but they are insanely expensive.Your better off doing some research and making them yourself. You can find all the information you need on You Tube.
Where can I buy the card, what is it called?
What stylus tool are you using
.. that Stylus is no longer in production, but I use this one now - even better -dual heat settings, on handle switch and illuminated "live" led. www.encausticart.com/products/electric-tools/stylus-pro/
how the hell do you do this :P
How you do Encaustic on Glass
.. that depends on the qualities of the glass you propose to use and also on what you are trying to achieve.
