đČ2019 Transition Sentinel Alloy - Sport
This was supposed to be a review but it couldnât be, at least not a reliable one, because of the reasons I mention in the video. But I share this anyway because I think there is still value in it. Let me know your thoughts.
MILTONATOR just curious if you have a preference or think you would go less slack than the sentinel?
Mike Branum The Sentinel is 64... anything less would make it a DH bike. So, Iâm staying at 64
Hearing your impressions about the weight and comfort level through flow trails, jumps, and rocks is really valuable. Iâm glad I came across your channel! On the east coast of PA Iâve got lots of rocks, roots, and logs on my local trails. I currently ride a 2014 Giant Trance and Iâm shopping new bikes. Iâve been demoing bikes in both 27.5 and 29 with 130mm to 170mm. Iâm still undecided about wheel size and geometry. I liked the sb130 and Mach 5.5, but will consider the sb140 and anything else.
Great reviews!!
Brian Hendricks Thanks for the feedback! Sounds like youâre doing things right. Few things compare to the feeling of shopping around for a new bike. Stoked for you man đ€đŒ
Thanks for posting this! I keep going back and forth between the Capra and the Commencal Meta AM 29. Definitely gave me some food for thought.
West Side MTB Glad you found it useful bro. Honestly, I donât think you can go wrong with either.
Great vid. It answered allot of questions for me. Thank you!

Getting better and better with your videos buddy
Radulf Bosuego Thanks! đ€đŒ
Sick bro!! I've had my capra for around 2 weeks and it's so sick! Huge upgrade from my entry level hardtail I have the al comp in 27.5, so good for the price
LegitMTBer itâs a steal man! YT stands alone in quality builds to price. Congratulations đ
@@MILTONATOR bro took over a month to come but it was so worth it, it's a dream build for sure. You a real one bro keep up these vidsđ€
i just demoed the yt capra 29 last week and loved it!
JohnDotcom Nice! If you donât mind me asking, what size? And how tall are you?
MILTONATOR Iâm 6 foot and I tried the large but I definitely want to try the xl! I like long 29ers!
JohnDotcom Haha! same đ€đŒ
I think they recommend a large for your height. I bet the large would feel a lot better. I really want to try the jeffsy 27.5 by YT. I have heard great things about it. Great video dude!
MTB FlowRider Yep! The Large is recommended. This is my buddyâs bike and since weâre within an inch difference in height, I figured itâd work out. Thatâs why I turned the video from a review to more of a helpful advice before buying a bike video. Thanks man
Great video bro!!! In my honest opinion when it comes to all around trail riding and some gnar the Jeffsy is plenty of bike especially in the Pro Race build that adds 10mm of travel all around. The Capra just didnât gel with me when I had it I personally like water bottle mounts and steeper seat angles. Great video again brotha
Nathan Libot Bro! We need to head down to the YT Mill and demo some Decoys đđđŒ
MILTONATOR let me know when
I just bought this bike used and i absolutely love it, its my first real enduro bike because ive only borrowed my friends bike, and now im just watching every video about this bike đ, love the video and review aswell
haha! nice man. Dope bike. Congrats
Got a 2020 Capra Medium size. The shorter top tube works well for me since i have back issues...and don't have pain being stretched out farther. đ

Nice video brother
Thanks man! Appreciate the feedback.
Nice bike. Thanks Milt.
Boogie ni Itâs my buddy Joeâs bike! But thanks đ€đŒ
you get to ride a good bike. That's a good thing. Keep on making good contents.
I demoed a YT Jeffsy CF Pro Race 29 at Skypark a while back. Super fun bike!
Michael Jin Nice! I might take a trip to the YT Mill and demo one myself.

This definitely made me feel a lot more happy about buying my Transition Sentinel over the YT Capra which was my other option, I would of definitely went for a large on the Capra but the Medium Transition Sentinelâs Geometry is PERFECT for me, Iâm 5â7â and it fits me great.
JflowMTB awesome man! Iâm just as happy with my Sentinel đ€đŒ
Any help? Im 6.4 and im confused btw capra 27 and 29 in xxl.. do my height really needs 29 or i can go with xxl 27?
shon poll 27.5 or 29 is a matter of preference. 27.5 will result in a more playful bike but the 29ers roll faster and smash harder. As for size, I personally think YTâs suggested sizing chart is on point. Hope that helps

@@MILTONATOR thanks for reply, i think best is to try and compare them, but there is only citybikes shops near me but y, thank you any way.
I got mine during the 4th of July sales for $4600 for the capra 29 cf pro race. It does not get better than that. This is my second Capra and both of them have been through hell, i race them and ride them hard i have a much easier time getting KOMs i have had no issues with them and i love them and will keep buying them.
Hey, guess what... I bought one :)
MILTONATOR Heck yeah!!! đ€
Would you factor in Threaded BB (Transition) v PF (YT) when considering a new frame/bike? Even with the wrong size bike, suspension set up, blah blah blah, I liked the info and honest opinion. Definitely useful stuff.Great channel
Snow Head thanks! And personally I donât. Itâs not a deal breaker for me. Now, Iâve owned about 5 bikes in nearly 5 years, averaging 1 year per bike. I say that because the arguments in favor of threaded largely have to do with creaking and maintenance which may take longer than year to surface (or not). Hope that helps!
Can u feel the difference in HT angle? If so can do you think that slacker is better in general? Iâm getting ready to buy a frame and keep looking at the HT differences in some new bikes...
Mike Branum To answer your question, yes, I can feel the difference. But It really depends on the trails you ride. Slacker is intended for steeper, chunckier and such. If your trails have long pedaling segments and climbs, then slacker wouldnât be as efficient.
Yes, different bike, different geometry. I owned rocky mountin altitute which is a size Medium, but riding a buddy's YT Jeffsy with a size Large, felt the same as my bike, but due to Large size, wheel base longer. More stable...i guess it's personal preference...
Kevin HanYS RPA it is very much a personal preference. And the main message here was, donât buy size...buy geometry.
The Sentinel in carbon to match out the YT, there's a $1500 price difference. All the same suspension and drive train and YT looks very appealing from that cost savings.
Personally, the Sentinel is too slack for me with a 64 HTA. The Capraâs 65 and 65.5 makes it just right for the steeps and the switchbacks (agile). My opinion. Oh, and yes - the price đđŒ
Hey, what would you recommend? I'm 184 cm 76 kg, i'm confused between L or XL
Capra Pro Race 29 2020
Thanks
same my end dude, about to order tonight but trying to decide. Im 185cm and 86kg and XL im thinking now, the bike does ride short so ive read here - www.pinkbike.com/forum/listcomments/?threadid=203724&pagenum=2#commentid6878088
At 184, definitely the XL. Itâs also YTâs recommended size for you.
YTâs sizing chart seems to be spot on - 183cm - 193cm = XL
â @MILTONATOR Just checked the site, and there is also L size from 174cm to 184cm. Ah, now i'm even more confused, because i heard that if you are between two size, then better choise will be in smaller size (L) in this case
You have L size, and you are 175 cm right? is not too big for you? size L
@@Vereshchak I share your concern. I would go with XL from the data I have read. The difference we are discussing here is enough on a shoe height to make a difference. XL with the 5mm chainset increase and 20m reach is pretty much the most change
I got a flat almost in that exact spot about a month ago... had to throw a tube in it. Did you walk the bike out?
Tony San Diego I sure did. Hiked it down. Got offered a tube but with the broken spoke I didnât want to risk an further damage. Long walk down đ
Hey thanks for the video, I'm 5'.9" too.... What size is it? I'm thinking about buy a capra 29, don't now if M or L size fit better to me. Thanks.
Andres Franco I found the Medium too small for me. The large frame is what YT recommends for our height and I agree.
It's nice that you were fair with your assessment, because having the right size bike to start with is a HUGE part of demo'ing bikes. I will say, if you are looking for a bike that will feel more stable descending than the Sentinel, you're almost guaranteed to need to jump to a true triple tree DH bike. The Sentinel the mini DH bike of the Enduro market, even with slightly less suspension than the newer 170/160 bikes coming out, because of the reach and HT angle at 64*. BUT....it pedals like a slug. For a bike park bike, or if you really only focus on gnarly descents, it's a great bike. But as an all arounder...it would be well down my list. It's a bad climber (regardless of the reviews that say it is good for what it is), and on level pedaling it's sluggish. I had both a AL Scout, and a carbon Patrol, and I couldn't wait to demo the Sentinel. I thought it felt sluggish, and I even stopped to make sure there was enough pressure in the tires. Later in the day, I hopped on a Ripmo, and it made it glaringly obvious how much more nimble and efficient it was at pedaling. I would agree in a heartbeat that it's not as stable as the Sentinel in the chunk at speed, and it's not going to blast rock gardens like the Sentinel will, but the trade off of having more fun on everything else is worth it to me. Our enduro stages have a LOT of pedaling, and if you have a bike that doesn't accelerate well, and doesn't pedal efficiently, yoiu're going to get smoked.
Oh man! Good stuff here. Thanks. The RIPMO keeps on coming up with nothing but praises. Thanks again đ€đŒ
@@MILTONATOR ...It does, but for smashing through gnar, it doesn't soak it up like some bikes in the LT 29'er category. The Intense Carbine, Sentinel, and even the Hightower are significantly better at that. The Rallon in its current 2019 iteration is about the same as the Ripmo in the gnar. It's just down to what riding style the rider wants to emphasize, and I'm at an age now where the pedaling is more important than shaving .1 seconds off my time in the rock gardens. Backing off in them is probably not a bad idea! :-)

Noticed in the comments you have just purchased one. Out of all the bikes you have tested which is the absolute plushest most downhill oriented bike? Had my eyes set on the Capra 29 but considering the SB150 or even Nomad 4 also...
DH plushest? The SB150 would be my choice. The 64.5 head tube angle and the long wheelbase makes it more plush and more capable than the others.
@@MILTONATOR Thanks for the fast reply. I am similar height to yourself at 5'8 which means the Capra 29 in large should fit but the max size I could get on an Sb150 is medium which would make it have a slightly shorter wheelbase for the similar reach than the Capra according to 99spokes. Also surprised to hear it is more plush with 20mm less travel. What made you choose the Capra, will you be putting a coil on it to suit the progressive frame?
I suppose this is what is interesting when people and magazines compare bikes as they look at medium vs medium ect rather than comparing reach vs reach. Geometry wise the Large Capra and medium Yeti have the exact same reach. The yeti has half a degree slacker head angle but the Capra has longer chainstays, a longer wheelbase, longer front centre and a lower standover plus 20mm more travel so on paper comparing reach for reach the Capra should come out on top. But I haven't rode them so I can't say. Keep up the good work!!
Hello! Im from SoCal area and was curious to know what trail this is.
Gustave Cervera Itâs in Murrieta
Bought one, broke the frame. NICE!
Logische gurke oh man. Iâve seen 2 frames break before but they were 2016-2017 frames.
hi, I'm new in MTB and Capra will be my first bike. One question: is the difference between 27.5 and 29er just the wheel size or is there anything else bigger/smaller on the bike?
Hi there! The wheels and the amount of travel. The 29er comes with 170mm travel and the 27.5 comes with 180mm travel. I think that's about it.
@@MILTONATOR Thank You !!
I felt the same way about the jeffsy 29, I felt squirly and couldnât put it where I wanted, weeks later I tried out the Ripmo on a DH track in laguna and fell in love, so planted and so playful when you want it to. Would be cool to hear your input on the Ripmo .
I demoed the capra and ripmo.. and fell in love with ripmo best of both worlds it climbs really good and playful on the down hills
Nic Q Iâve been itching to demo the Ripmo, so many praises for that bike. Iâll see I can take one for a few laps soon.
Iâm looking to getting a Capra Iâm around 5â5 do I get medium or large. I want to use for a while though
Coen Molyneaux Im 5â9â and the large fits me best. I think YTâs sizing chart is pretty spot on. I suggest you go off that, assuming you arenât able to demo it first
Go medium. If you go large it will be to big. Unless you are still growing. I'm the same height and medium fits just right. Its actually maybe 2 inches to tall when pedaling with he seat post up to the max.
Hi guys, just bought my capra, iâm 6â3â and got a XL. Do you think i got the right size?
Stefan Winkler Thantâs the YT recommended size for your height. But so long as it feels good to you, thatâs whatâs important
I am the same size as you and have same bike... I did raise the stack height (broke the forks) and push the seat all the way back but it's way better than my 2105 nomad for fit size. PS scrap those e13 tires... (Shore rides only)
Do you feel like you made the right choice? I am same height as you and i am thinking about xxl
Hey how are u Iâm trying to take a Capra Iâm 5.7 u think is better for me take L o M I ride a jeffty and I feel the bike really short so Iâm confuse
Ariel Cardenas Oficial Difficult question for me to answer as âcorrectâ size depends on a various things.
I suggest you compare the geometry of the Jeffsy you have now to the Capra. Specifically: Reach and Wheelbase. But if I had to chose for you, Iâd probably say go Large. Hope that helps.
MILTONATOR thanks for answer and definitely this gonna help me đđŒ
Looking at the capra, Im 6'0, Not sure if I should get the L or XL
Iâm getting my 2020 Capra this week and I went with a Large, which is what YT recommends and from the geometry chart Iâm confident itâs going to be a good fit. At 6â I would lean more toward the XL. YT has a return/exchange policy so long as you donât take it on the dirt, by the way.
@@MILTONATOR AH Didn't know that can test fit and return. On there UK/EU site it just siad can return if still boxed and unused. I'm 5.9 with 30in inseam so at the top rec for a medium, so cant decide on medium or large. From what can see just 20mm or so longer seat stay and 20mm longer reach on the Large and about same in overall wheelbase vs the medium
@@IMac8939 Get the Large!!! I ended up buying a 2020 Capra and I bought the Large because the medium (on this video) felt too small. Iâm also 5â 9â and the inseam isnât a big factor because the top tube is low. Hope that helps
You rode the wrong size for your height. Iâm your height and have the large, itâs awesome!
steve watson Yes I did. Iâm hoping to ride a Large soon
Que talla me recomiendas si mido 179 de alto y 84 cm de entrepierna gracias
Salvador PĂ©rez SerĂłn Mi recomendaciĂłn es una Large. Obviamente probar antes serĂa o mejor.
YT Capra Medium is listed for 5'3"-5'7"...
Yea, found that out later. But as I mention in the video, this was/is my buddy's bike and we're nearly the same height and weight so I figured the medium was the right size. Definitely gonna make it a goal to demo the large soon.
The rear wheel is crap broken spoke have plagued me slowly converting to 2mm h/duty spokes.
evo đŹđŹđŹ
YT Capra is very popular in my country..but mostly 27.5...cheapest enduro bike...
Kevin HanYS RPA What country? If you donât mind me asking
I'm from Borneo...
Don't really see the point in reviewing the wrong size bike that you haven't set up for yourself, especially the suspension. Also quite clearly giving props to your sponsors Onza whilst getting a pinch flat on tyres with clearly soft walls.
Steve Lang Biking-Fix I wish I had sponsors, LOL! But I agree in that a review of the wrong size bike shouldnât happen. And even though I didnât do this intentionally (my buddy, who owns this bike is my size and about the same weight) from here on out, I will not do it again. All the best to you! đ€đŒ
I Think a Capra frame is very small
Once COVID-19 is over, I'm gonna make it a goal to demo the Large frame. YT's ran small before but I think they've updated their geo to be longer and slacker.
