The Mauser C96 is one of the best known self loading pistols of the World. The Red 9 (9mm Luger version, manufactured during the 1st World War) is quite rare. Watch my short film about its history, system, tactical use, disassembly - reassembly with some accuracy tests 25 - 40 m. Hope you'll enjoy it! Greetings to Han Solo! :)

I've had two C96, the first in .30 Mauser and the second in 9mm Luger. Due to the dificulties of getting ammo I used the first very little, but the 9mm I used a lot. Wonderful gun! Regards
I have one in 9mm, Seems That The Ammo Is Sliding Forward During Recoil, Causing Feeding Problems.. You?
👍, wonderful collection, iam trying to get hands on one for last 30 years but in vain.
Once again thank you for an excellent demonstration of a classic pistol and an excellent silhouette range gun.
@@escott3829 I had a similar issue in my red 9 where sometimes the gun would eject an unfired round as well as the case of the just fired round. The reason for any feed problems in 9mm is that the c96 doesn't really have a feed ramp, the bullets are right in line with the barrel, and the 9mm guns used the same frame as the 30 cal guns, which means the 9mm rounds which are about 1/3rd shorter overall length than the 30 Mauser rounds are sitting in a magazine made for 30 Mauser. I would assume your problem is caused by your mag spring getting worn down, it's not holding the rounds under enough pressure and they are sliding foward due to the extra space.
@@Mibit911 Yeah.. I Figured The Same Thing. I Got My Wolff Spring Pack In Friday After LONG Back Order.. But They Would Accept No Money..They Sent 2 Sets I Ordered For Free... It Includes New Magazine Spring.

The only good C96 I have ever found on youtube. This is more of a documentary type of video, and all gun reviews should be done in this fashion, not some minecraft quality shot from a handphone camera with impromptu speech.
man, this pistol only makes me think back when I played Resident Evil 4. Damn, that game was good AF!
+subjectofsaturn it is
Best pistol in the game!
Stranger! Stranger!
Nothing says Made in Germany like ten thousand machined parts. Amazing pistol, especially for its time.

This is hands down the sexiest pistol to ever touch the hands of men.

You have guts, disassembling a C96 on top of some grass and logs.
?
foughtwolf same thing I said lol..this is the type of gun ill disasmble on a mattress surrounded by plush pillows hahah..
foughtwolf I was thinking the same thing even before I read your comment. I was like non flat surface (logs) + grass = recipe for disaster.

Was just about to type...this guy has some balls.
That Mauser looks as if t was manufactured yesterday. Fab condition - everything holster/butt and the leather. Boy, would I like to own it? You bet!!!
I just paid 7 grand for one in nowhere near the condition of the one illustrated here. Mind you, it shoots beautifully still, though it's dated 1897.
There are some sold in Gun Broker in the US with very high price. I encountered one in the same condition in 1993 that belonged to the ex chief of police that has been taken from the hand of death old man who committed divide due to his illness in the late 1950. The asking price was $650.00.There was no stock. The second one under the same condition that I found in 2015 at the gun club in Milford, Connecticut for $2,500.00. Again without shoulder stock.
Very enjoyable video!
What a lovely pistol ! Thanks for showing it !!
Awesome video! Really excellent production. This gun is also the foundation of Han Solo's blaster in Star Wars. When I was a kid I used to read the Spirit comics and he had this gun also. Its amazing seeing the milling work from over a hundred years ago and how its just as fine as anything we make today with CNC machines.
Richtig gut und sehr geschmackvolles Video! Danke!

What a well filmed, narrated and edited video! I will definitely check out more of your videos.
Nice concise presentation, very interesting and professional.
The stock and stripping tool/ammo pouch accessory is really something else, what a package.
Gotta love a piece of history like that!
Cheers mate.
A beautiful piece of history. Thank you so much for posting this!

I enjoyed seeing this iconic weapon/design come to life with your explanation and range time.
I have seen many pictures of this pistol, have even seen a couple in display cases in museums....but this is the first time I have seen one in this detail and, live fired!! MOST impressive!! Thank you.
This gun was so awesome, that Han Solo still used it 10000 years later :)
Thanks a lot for yet another great milsurp review!

Thanks for the break-down procedure, now I can clean mine with confidence.
I am impressed! This is easily the best looking Mauser C96 I have seen on CZcams. It looks almost brand new.
I like this guy's going into the history on his videos. As for the take down, I would have lost a spring.
An icon in firearms history, and that is a particularly nice example. Thank you for sharing and doing the takedown as well.
That is absolutely the best broomhandle I've ever seen. Very close to mint. Congratulations on finding it.
This is my favourite pistol. The dismantle and assembly process is pure asmr.
Thanks for posting this video. It was very well done. I learned a lot!
Such an amazing design with only one screw for holding the wooden grips together.
This is one of the best looks at this gun I've seen. Nice work!
Sooo beautiful, that level of craftsmanship is a thing of the past

Severian Wintermute You realized it... It was Han Solos pistol... They modified it...

George W. Bush And, That is very offensive, Shut up about hitler.
Its really cool how you can hear the subsonic crackling when you fire it.
What a good explanation about the C96 and moderation about the handling of it.
Thanks for this wonderful, clear, concise seminar on this fascinating pistol. Well prepared and well presented.
As the owner of a C96 made in 1905 (and in the original 7.63 mm Mauser), a couple of comments:
(1) the manufacturing quality is very, very good.
(2) the ergonometrics when shooting with the shoulder stock attached are extremely poor, in terms of the hammer repeatedly "whacking" the web of your hand/thumb if you use a "normal" grip as shown here (i.e., wrapped around the stock). From the video, the problem may be more manageable with the "Red 9s," as the 9mm Parabellum is a bit less powerful than the original 7.63 mm Mauser (which reportedly was the most powerful "standard" pistol cartridge until the .357 Magnum was introduced). But with the 7.63 mm, it's a handful!
(3) Any version of the C96 has a LOT of "little parts." I did not have any problem disassembling/reassembling . . . on my nice, dry, clean WORKBENCH. But doing the same in a muddy, wet World War I trench would be a NIGHTMARE.
ON a related point: I love your videos - particularly those which show you hunting with "antique" firearms -- and shooting better than I ever could with something more "modern"!
I Have Smaller Hands Than By Buddy.. I Can Shoot My Red 9 With Normal Grip.. His Thick Thumbs Get Wacked.

Awesome video! I was just looking to see it discharge but I got to learn about its history and assembly and reassembly; very impressed.
This is a very well made and informative video, thanks for making it!
Wow! That Red 9 is in excellent shape and the finish on the gun and the stock is very, very nice. Most of the ones that were exported from China are in not very good shape - they have to be refinished and need new parts and springs and sometimes the barrel needs to be relined.
Resident Evil 4 yea
I knew this pistol from the game "resident evil 4" back in the day.
it's good to see an actual real one.
Great video! It was informative with really good historical pictures and the take down and re assembly was really well done! Thanks

I have one that I bought from the U.S. Vet that brought it back from WWII, complete with its papers he needed to bring it back as a souvenir. Vet told me as they were going into Berlin an old man was in a bombed out building and shot 4 soldiers with it killing 3 of them before he killed him with his thompson. I always figured it was an old WWI vet with his pistol
Interesting story, thanks for sharing.
Deadhorse1 The Russians took Berlin not the U.S. the U.S. stopped at the Elbe about 50 miles out from Berlin.
US, russian, brit and french people... always looting.
I bet that US vet shot that old man. Not he himself.
Deadhorse1 could be Volkssturm, the C96 was still issued to German soldiers in WW2, especially to less important forces (Volkssturm, reservists etc)
Excellently presented video but I am very mystified why you did the disassembly over those logs and grass. I realize it's aesthetically very pleasing but we all know what happens if some small piece falls between the firewood. But thanks for a very well presented, informative piece.
LOL, me too. Clumsy me, when I take things with itty bitty parts apart, I do it over a table with a towel or sheet so when I inevitably drop something I can hopefully find it again. I also get some small glass bowls out to separate and put the little parts in. The worst are eye glasses parts. The worlds tiniest screws. You have to use tweezers to put them back into the threads and use jewelers screw drivers. And why do the still make slot head screws for anything?
Watch screws are far smaller and were first used hundreds of years ago.

Bravo.
Thanks for the easy to follow disassembly. Wish my C96 looked half that nice.

One of my favorite pistols of all time. Great video ^^

I love this gun. It's mechanical artistry at its finest.
Such an iconic design. It's one of my grail to add to my collection one day
"adiós, Leon"
Great video, I only knew it was the gun that Han Solo's DL-44 was based off of. And I've see the actual one in a few films, but never knew anything about it. I had no idea that it had a holster which doubled as a stock, it's all so well crafted, it's art.
Derek Moore yay someone noyiced that :D
That was very interesting. Thanks for uploading!
Broom-handle is a piece of art and even today after more than one century is still accurate and fun to shoot.
Awesome video, I truly am in love with this gun!
Here's an odd question: you can shoot the Tokarev cartridge in the 7.63 Mauser, but since it is a stronger cartridge, it will put more stress on the bolt, which is a logical conclusion.
But wouldn't a stronger recoil spring adress this problem?
Or is it the pressure on the chamber that you should be worried about?
The bolt would explode.
@@Kevin-fj5oe that's a bigger difference in pressure than I realised
@@QuantumCat76 but you could use 7.63 mauser in weapon chambered for 7.62 tokarev, the german did this in ww2 to the captured soviet weapons.
Idk why i came here, maybe couse RE4 Remake lmao
Great video! Great instructional tutorial and history as well!
Excellent, very informative video. Thank you.
This was my favourite 9 mm weapon to use in Resident Evil 4!
3:42 "This is 600 Jews of muzzle energy." That's a rather unfortunate mispronunciation :|
Why? There's nothing wrong with the word "Jew," it's not a derogatory term on it's own. Are you implying that Jewish people don't have any power?
Buddy Busey No. This was a Nazi gun.
Ahhhhhh, I see what you did there now
Robert R Its not a nazi gun. It was designed in 1895 and the nazi party was founded in the 1920's. Plus the nazis mainly used the Luger and p38 because the c96 was outdated and expensive. You really need to learn your history.
TheTh903 It's just a joke. Why is this such a big deal?
Delightful video, you really are an excellent demonstrator.
Great video, one of my favorite pistols.
Man, you sure have an awsome accent
I am a member of a gun club in West Ealing. Whenever any of us fire any guns using a round >9mm we get an involuntary erection. Why should this be?
ealous to the core. not only have the opportunity to hold this masterpiece of engineering, but also to produce the shots.
That example of the pistol is in extraordinarily good condition. It is quite a beautiful piece. Thanks for sharing it.
The Best gun ever!!!
Is it mandatory to perform both, disassembly and assembly on fire logs?
its harder to find those parts in grass if they fall out
It beats disassembly and assembly on burning logs.
Precision craftsmanship at it's finest.
Thank you for another interesting and fun video.
I love this gun, Powerful piece of german engineering,my favorite weapon in RE4, bioshock infinite and Máfia 2
Classic, somehow reminds me of Lovecraft's novels.
Absolutely well done great review
Nice old is gold. . Historical things looks amazing
I'm going to be honest. I don't know much about firearms whatsoever. (GASP, an American who doesn't know every gun ever??) haha, but there's always been something about this gun design and how it looks like it would fit in the hand that I've always sort of 'liked'. It's difficult to describe. The shape of the gripe, maybe. The narrow barrel. I just like it. I don't think I'd mind buying one in the future. I mean, I guess a gun that looks that nice probably costs a lot of money and yes a gun license is a no brainer but still, it's a very aesthetically pleasing gun. :)
Could Han Solo have helped?
Not gonna lie, he probably factors in somewhere.
Patrick Briotte I swear, one day, I will dress up as Han Solo if I ever mock up one of these pistols to look like his blaster when I go to the range. I've already done it as a stormtrooper with a Sterling SMG. XD
You don't need a firearms license for class 1 weapons in the us...
You sir, get a thumbs up from me, purely because of that Dark Tower profile pic. Roland Deschain, The Last Gunslinger. Stephen King. Kudos. You're alright in my book :) /)*(\
4:11 - "The C96 is a pizza fart."
HaHa I get it-funny!
Great video. Thanks a lot for your excellent job! This is really wonderful pistol with unique design.
Very nice video! Thanks What a beautiful piece of technic!!
Excellent production and presentation!! What a beautiful example of a classic pistol. Thanks. p.s. Winston Churchill carried a Mauser machine pistol as a cavalry officer during the Boer War. He purchased the pistol with his own money because his shoulder was weak and he was not confident in relying on his sabre during combat.
Pelican1984 j hi hií hi hi hi hi8 í hi hi j buy\. Polk m
It wasn't a machine pistol it was an 1896 Mauser. He did carry it in the Boer war but actually used it in the battle of Omdurman whilst charging the Dervish army lines. He says that he's sure of at least one kill and another probable.
Some of the Mauser C96s have full auto
Churchill was involved in the boer war, where the UK empire was killing white South Africans (basically Dutch, some French and Germans), then he proceeded to order the bombing of German civilians in WW2. The infamous night time raids
Churchill was a piece of garbage responsible for millions of white people dead. If you admire him that shows a thing or two about who you are as a person, and how you feel about white people being killed
Amazing feat of machining. Amazing how they were able to start with nothing and design a pistol, where as today everything is based off of the same couple designs.
Bertisevil666
Apparently a lot of people. There's a reason it's so popular.
Bertisevil666 I Honestly like the Colt 1911 handgun. I own a commander and is the best semi auto pistol I have ever owned. Showing of their 1911 clones made by other companies is annoying. Why show off a clone when a original is a lot better?
This is definitely a masterpiece, I would have dozens of it and never feel boring
Great review of an equally great pistol.
Wish somebody would make a new production replica of this.
I wouldn't doubt it. It's just going to be a shame when the only specimens available are in museums or in collector hands.
+Legan Arabach China and Spain made a few hundred thousand unliscensed copies. Don't know how hard it is to get hold of one.
+Greg Blackburn They would not be anywhere near 5k, especially since the made knockoffs arent anywhere near that.
+Legan Arabach I know they do - but you could also check Star Wars replicas. This is the base of Han Solos DD Blaster
+Legan Arabach There were lots produced, it will be some time before they end up like that. You can usually find stuff of this age that was produced in far smaller quantities pretty easily, finding one of these shouldn't be difficult.
Is it true that Winston Churchill carried a Broomhandle Mauser when he was a war corespondent during the Boer War?
Yes
+absentmindedprof YES! in fact it saves his life in that war. google it he take two guys off with it or something.
Alejandro Medina Thanks for the info.
+absentmindedprof yes, he did.
Yes
Beautiful job with the milling on the side of the frame there, you don't see that very often.
Oh, and only about 34 parts, that's a good improvement in complexity over the predecessor and even most modern pistols.
Thats a gorgeous example... Nice video.
i love how he uses a pile of chopped wood to keep the pistol parts together while he strips it down.
That thing is a piece of art
I always enjoy his presentations. Always very well done. Many thanks.
wonderful and modern design features, thank you.
