I had the exact same issue with my 991 GT3 (kept garaged but in a rural location). Away overseas and kept getting alerts for the interior sensor; I came home to find the passenger seat had been attacked by a field mouse - the little bugger had chewed through the leather to get to the 'stuffing' - perfect bedding; mouse droppings in the engine bay, boot and passenger foot-well. The car went into Porsche for inspection and seat re-cover. Thankfully no wiring damage and £2.5K later the seat was re-upholstered. I bought a heavy duty car tent for the garage and a stack of mouse traps (turns out they like peanut butter and Nutella). I had my revenge.

Thanks for sharing. That was one scary mouse with dramatic video effects. Gave me the shivers!!!.
Surprised that just 2 days outside caused so much damage. Was there a cover on the car? I found previously that a covered car which is not driven give mice a greater sense of security.
I leave my Porsche only in a tightly sealed individual garage space with mice poison pellets that I count out and monitor to ensure no mouse is eating them, along with an electrical mouse noise device that plugs into the wall outlet that makes a sound humans cannot hear but annoying to mice. Also having dried up urine in disposed plastic lids under the car and around the garage. Can not be noticed by humans but may be easily detected by mice with stronger olfactory sense during winter storage. I check on car every couple of days, knock on the window, and start and run to get oil up to temperature about every 3 weeks in winter. No problems yet in 10 years of ownership.

Mate. EXACTLY the same thing just happened to my MX5. Well, not exactly but I started it and it would just die. It would run for perhaps a second and then die. It had fuel, it had spark, couldn't work it out. Had it taken to Mazda, they found a mouse nest in the air box. First time it has ever happened to me. Thankfully the buggers didn't chew through my wires but a real eye opener.
P.S. Peppermint oil, mixed with water and sprayed in the engine bay is supposed to keep them away....

Sadly becoming more common. Two years ago I had a mouse in my car, two actually I think. I was driving down the road and heard a horrible crunching noise under the dash. I thought the fan for the HVAC vents had died, unbolted the housing underneath figuring I had to change it and instead found mice cut in half. They chewed through the cabin air filter which unfortunately for them was above the fan and boom, dead. They came in through the air intake in the front. Other than that though no damage.

I had the same problem on my 991.1. Fortunately, as my car was being looked at for another issue, my local Porsche centered spotted the start of a nest before there was any serious damage. The problem is you can't see into the engine when you lift the rear engine hood. I have now laid out mousetraps and bait in my garage, which I check daily and which have caught a few mice over the past few weeks. I have also tried the peppermint spray. So far no further problems but pleased be warned I think this might be more common than people realize.

They can also cause enormous damage to house wiring, so I'm not surprised they did that to your car, but it's a testament to Porsche that it was still driveable and the wiring didn't burn-out completely.

I put two Victor snap traps and killed two mice within two days. All of my cars I don’t drive daily have mouse traps in the engine bay. I catch them once or twice a month but no nests. If the bait is gone and no mouse, that means it was a rat. So far no nests and no damages.

I had the exact same issue a few years ago on my 987.2S. Left fan wouldnt stop blowing 24/7 with a red « engine compartiment » warning when I’d start the car. Took it to porsche center of course, they first wanted to replace both front and lateral fans and suggested that it was maybe a DME relay issue. But I knew it would solve nothing cause it seemed very specific to that fan blowing all the time. Then I suspected a faulty temperature sensor in the engine compartment that could have fallen in the engine bay due to a bad rubber joint maybe. So we opened the compartiment and found mice feces. And with the light we saw that the wire connecting the left fan was bitten by a mouse and almost dead . So all we just did some very basic welding and the fan instantly stopped blowing. And 0 problem from that moment on.
Guys at Porsche didnt even check that part of the car, I had to do it at a car electrician. Cost me around 20€ with less than 30 min of labour.

Good to have you back; you were missed last friday.
Speeking of ‘missed’; where the flipping flip is Jason? Bring him back. If necessary, kidnap him (not really ofcourse)

That’s not as bad as I thought. My friends Ford pickup here in London also had mouse damage. His car was always broken and he sold it for a later version

Dang. I had same issues…twice with my 3RS! I actually started a channel called Rat911 to document my rat fighting journey. Took it down after two vids. LOL. I keep a rat trap in my wife’s 911 and found a dead rat after we smelled something funky in the AC. Decomp with maggots. Stuff of nightmares. 😳

I work at a Honda dealership and I know how destructive rodents are to cars, most cases insurance coverage takes care of it, but 3 months to wait seems a bit long unless they were seriously backlogged with work, and parts on back order often hold up the process

The engine fault light is yellow/orange so you shouldn't be too scared. The most serious faults trigger a red light. For example and as far as I know, transient issues such as pollution or unexpected change in fuel quality (requiring big changes in AFR) will light up the check engine light.

Saw your car parked up outside Porsche Bournemouth on Saturday, must’ve just been before you collected it. Thought you were in there spending money on a new toy, not cleaning up after a mouse!

A mouse...common in stored garages. (Wires have chemical in them that mice and rabbits love)Well you best move and inspect all your other cars my friend.
You used to move them round a lot you . Unfortuantely they will be in more than 1 of them.. oh and buy a cat or 6 to live the the garage..
£6k thats cheap could have killed the engine. (I would have trailered it to Swindon as they are your garage.wouldnt have been 3mths then I bet)
Glad it's OK now . Thanks for sharing . Cannt wait for more drive video's now then. 😎👍

When the sensors go out and that limp goes active just like on my CRX or Hondas its a blessing and not a curse it Gets you home and not get you stuck. That is part of its high reliability I trust you process of Porsche. Trust it and then bring it in. Man those freaking pesky mouse's they did the same to my TSX I had to Swap out the Fuel injector cables and wires. Not only that but they get all up on the engine and they piss and Shit in there have to get it washed too. Ahh I hate those freaking mices,.

Had a rat (not a mouse) chewing several wires in my mercedes 190d, luckily it wasn't as much damage as the Porsche, I noticed when one day I turned the car off and took the key from the ignition, and the engine kept running! But I was very lucky, it was "only" a 400€ bill to repair it!

Informative great episode……for us viewers
