I lived in Santa Barbara for most of my life until a couple of years ago when I moved to a suburb of Los Angeles.
Street vendors here began in business areas and then expanded to residential areas.
There has been one directly in front of my house in a strictly residential area Across from a country club for the last year and a half.
Please, don't let this happen to Santa Barbara!
Stop it now before you can't.
These are not individual mom and pop vendors.
There are organizers with definite agendas for expansion who run and employ the vendors.

I'm thinking of starting my own food stall on the streets. Why not? It's so profitable. I don't have health permit fees. I don't have to pay rent. The start up cost is just a few hundred dollars. All I need is a propane tank and a griddle pan and I'm in business. That would be so awesome. Hell I'm gonna start one soon since there's no enforcement.

how tf does that even work you can't get hepatitis from a street vendor if they cook the food. the only way you could get hepatitis is from alcohol or bacteria, or parasites. The food is cooked to a high enough temp that kills any germs or bacteria, or parasites that may be in the food. I'm not to sure but if the illegal street vendor is on private property, can they not be charged with Trespass and arrested? Under the terms of tress pass is that they are within 3 feet of a private restaurant or establishment. Meaning they can be even charged if on a driveway, street, a parking lot or even on the sidewalk. Blocking a sidewalk and forcing people to walk into the street with on coming cars is a hazard and can put the illegal vendors in prison/jail for about a week or longer depending on the charges. And as you can see, I do not think a single one of these illegal vendors can afford a lawyer anyway.
So if an illegal vendor is on a private parking lot and not permited or NEVER got permission to go there, then the owner has the right to call the police and charge the illegal vendors with tresspassing. Or let the health department and the police department take away their carts. They can't do business if they don't have their items. Charge them with like a health violation. They do that a lot here in New Jersey.

Clark County Commissioners don't look at the unsanitized food sold by the street vendors. Dust produced by traffic goes into the food. What is in the dust poop, vomit, chemicals, and other things in the form of dust? The restaurants lacked inspectors checking on them. What about the street vendors? I saw on the TV cutting fruit without sanitary conditions and refrigeration. Street vendors should be banned in the strip, schools, fast food establishments, outside food stores. The Clark County Commissioners want to increase the healthcare insurance that is already overpriced by Las Vegas residents and this is a bad practice permitting street vendors. The street vendors should move to California. Clark county commissioners should have a mall and refrigerators, bathrooms and sinks to wash the products and utensils inside of the environment to sell food, and not in the street. Not in Las Vegas streets.

While I applaud initiative, there is a reason that there are health standards in the U.S. when it comes to vendors. Legitimate food vendors pay a lot of money for permits, are safe serve certified, pay for health inspections and they follow the rules. Illegal food vendor ships shouldn't be rewarded for not following the rules, the problem with illegal food vendors is that there is no regulation on the kitchens that are preparing the food for sale to the public. Having worked in professional kitchens as a cook, I can tell you how easy it is for food borne illnesses to inhabit food. I worked as a cook in one cafeteria, where they had an exchange student from a middle eastern foreign country working. He was working the grill, he stuck his ungloved hand into a refrigerated raw meat drawer and pulled out a bloody burger, then stuck it on the grill to cook. In the next instant, he took his bloody ungloved hand and stuck it into the bun steamer and pulled out a bun. He took the bun that had the raw blood on it which his bloody hand had been handling. He put the cooked burger on the contaminated bun and tried to serve it to the public. I managed to remove the contaminated burger before it was too late and gave the customer a clean burger and bun. The middle eastern foreign exchange student became verbally abusive when he was asked to step down from his position on the grill, because we couldn't have him serving contaminated food to the public. Illegal food vendors aren't safe serve trained, therefore they follow their own food handling procedures. Procedures that aren't safe serve approved and can be dangerous to people consuming their food. Save a life, please don't buy from illegal food vendors.
