This song is so dreamy that you might forget what Omar is singing about. And I've never heard a song with the word tethered in it. But it works, it works i swear it does and once this song gets in your head it stays there and is on repeat. He's torn in his relationship, but still has great love for his partner, which tempts him to think about a third. But as much as he wants to give in to the temptation he finds he can't.
Have a listen to Ryan Beatty - Evergreen, it has a similar vibe to Omar's music AND also uses the word "tethered"

I interpreted it the other way. Omar wanted to sleep with a third guy, but his partner doesn’t. Then I looked at the lyrics again and I realized Omar in this song doesn’t want a third boy he is “tethered” to just the one boy 😭
