He has a good mix of being funny, arrogant and factually true.
But being arrogant in a funny (and often factually true) way.
Confidence is not arrogance. Magnus is, and never really was very arrogant. However, if you know you are better, you know. If you crush your opposition on literally every metric, if you know that you are 'smarter' in your life by the virtue of the choices that you make, and yet you still listen intently to those with good advice, you are the polar opposite of 'arrogant'. You are just accurate in your self assessment.
Celebrities who are famous for being famous tend to be arrogant. A once-in-a-lifetime genius that knows he is one and acts like it is just confident.
It's usually just people without any remarkable talents that would weigh up with such people that will confuse confidence for arrogance.

The fact that Magnus looks arrogant just for saying what the truth is just underlines how above the others he is. I mean, if all you do is crushing your opponents and then say "yea i crushed him", it's simply both funny and honest

@@HumorOfANerd Not just chess, he's insanely good at fantasy football too. So I assume his general brainpower is highly above average = genius. And I'm actually happy so see it, the odds of him being the one getting interviewed as the "drunk" at football game is just funny though.

I would dispute that he is one of the players of chess. I mean, he plays chess and he's one of the people who play chess, but to call him a player of chess? Come on man, that's taking it too far.

@@LL-wc4wn The point about bragging is that it is considered vulgar to press your success onto people rather than letting it speak for itself. It is usually indicative of poor character and the result of either insecurity and/or narcissism.

What if Magnus's success was kept private... And he was still the same world champion chess player... Are you saying that he cannot tell people about all his wins and world championships (which are not at all public knowledge) and if he does that he is bragging and narcissistic?

I feel that's brutally honest. It sounds arrogant, but I doubt anyone can argue with him about that. He could have answered "...and other than myself..." because that would better answer the intent of the question.

His last point is very true! Only because a game position is basically a draw it doesn't mean you have to stop playing. Only because a game position is lost it doesn't mean you have to stop playing. Your opponent can make a mistake. You have to keep playing in order for that to happen!

As a 650 rated player. Nothing is a draw until it’s a draw. And even though that line gets much thinner as a GM he has a point. It’s never too late for your opponents confidence to get the best of them. Even in games I’m losing I’ll play all the way to the end. It’s especially funny to get to a king and pawn endgame or something similar only for your opponent to realize they have no idea how to checkmate you and end up in a stalemate.
This guys sure has a future in chess

So he forfeited the WC title, but he's not "fading into obscurity", in fact he's starting to do streaming on Twitch, he's just having a good time now. He's already the GOAT of modern chess, he has many World Champion titles under his belt. Nothing to prove anymore.

Probably one of the reasons he withdrew as a world champ is that he didn't like the thought of ending with a loss, and there is the fact that he has been bored with the state of chess for years now. He got to the top, enjoyed the view, and got bored.

Magnus Carlsen will be remembered as the best human player at about the same time humans could no longer beat the best A.I. at Chess.
Based on what I heard from chess players far better than I, the AI revolution brought forward many new tactics so it is only natural that the best human player appears once you can learn from something far better than yourself. Researchers keep discovering new things in nature which can bring forward technological advances, same principle IMO

All active famous chess players are so tense and egoist, there is always a heavy atmosphere when they are interviewed or talking to each other. Chess community needs a gm who is chill and can take a joke. I think it would effect all chess community positively. Hikaru seems nice but when only he is not communicating with another gm.
