I converted a bike 2 .5 years ago and have just passed 11000 KM one of the best things I ever done. Great fun and exercise all round, and cheap as peanuts.
Mate can u tell me what the best kits are I wanna start
@@mrandmrsbbqpit6736 KirbeBike.
@@mrandmrsbbqpit6736I bought the Voilamart 1500w, rode to work 6 mile and back every day for the past 9 months and had no problems, best think I’ve bought
I prefer the controller in a bag separate from battery, so I can remove battery when I lock up the bike outside
If you fit the controller in a frame bag with the battery you take the frame bag with the controller in it out. less to get stolen. Only a few wires to disconnect like phase and hall and throttle etc.. and good to go
I'm taking my bike inside l trust nothing .
Thanks mate oi and ride appreciate you my friend.
Great video , I too put my controller in bag ,if only to neaten up the wires. Not had any heating probs. I do understand your concern with heat dispersal . All best take care TT.
Just wanted to say thank-you for the videos p1 / p2 /p3 ....I bought one of the Andy Kirby ebike kits and followed your instructions to the letter ....I now have an amazing ebike ...very grateful.... so much fun and makes commuting a breeze. The instructions were perfect. I built it on a Carerra Helcat 29" frame and everything fitted perfectly. I don't think I would have had the confidence to build it without your videos ...thank you .
You're very welcome appreciate the positive feedback 😀
Hi mate just wondering how quickly you got your kit from kirbebikes? I’ve just ordered my 2000w kit and I can’t wait to get it.
Oft debating doing it on my carerra vulcan 27.5 inch hmm definitely getting to it now!
Best thing i ever did , even 80 mile trips are not a problem . I made 4 in the end all on scrap bikes , only one problem on a sharp burr where the wire leaves the wheel..my next project is to fix that . After 4000 miles i would say triple check wire abrasion points and reinforce, Bikes are surprisingly jiggly and sometimes the cabling is not particularly hard wearing. Personally, i use batteries in a rear pannier still wrapped in their original foam packing to protect them from an inevitable fall . Means swapping and charging batteries is simple . I also soldered on XT60 connectors for long life and good connectivity.
Nice one Steve I've watched loads of build videos but you always give mega useful tips that other vlogs fail to give 👍
Thanks so much :D
Great video tutorial of the e bike build looks really good in grey with the black controller and battery. Keep up the great work looking forward to seeing it in action when Andy puts it up on his channel. Stay safe Guys. 👍
Thank you for giving me the motivation to build my first e bike, your laymen term intuition is just outstanding...subbed and shared
Hello mate , I’ve just finished my first e-bike build and I cannot thank you enough for these tutorials , youve cover every nuance which I would’ve otherwise struggled on. I’ve also been watching your other content which is also very entertaining. Keep it up man and thank you again
Thanks so much I appreciate it ☺️
what i love about your conversion it's still looks clean
That’s a wicked clean installation
Very well explained and easy to follow ,you've convinced me to get one of these kits, ive always been put of by the faff of fitting a mid drive but looks like even i could manage this👍
Hi get rear wheel kit they are faster and much quiter and quick of the mark. Plus there better to fit than midrive I've had mine for 4years and same battery bought from aliexpress get the one witn max on the rim name
@@colinwhite144 how much did it all cost mate ??
Absolutely love your builds 👍🏻
It is really nice to see retired stormtroopers with positive hobbies. So many end up as bantha feed.
I like how you and Kirby meet up you both have some great e-bike vids 🎉
I like what you do with painting the controller satin black and the mounting of controller. I can't stand those yellow phase blocks. I always cut off and solder on bullet connectors & heat shrink them. I replace all the large white connectors with black micro jst sm connectors. Just tidier. Not an issue if its hidden inside a bag though. I'd like to see you make some mid drive BBSHD builds. I've never built one myself. A quality hardtail frame like that giant would go great with bafang.
I really enjoyed these videos. Subscribed as requested. Thank you for the vids.
Hi fella just come across your channel today for the first time fantastic step bye step guide great work🤟
Really digging your content lately brother. I really want to get into doing vids like this myself and open my own shop. Any advice on how to get started?! All thanks for the hours you and Andy put in to this hard work to motivate me. I have now built an 5000W Enduro E-Bike and three mountain bikes (one fat tire hub 500W and two mid-drive 750W & 1000W). Cheers!
Great post, simple and easy to follow. Thanks pal.
enjoyed the series, good walkthrough.
for controller boxes ,i hotglue around the cables, then add vaseline on top of that as well, been 3 years not a single issue and ive rode in downpours and storms
if u solder some neo magnetics on every cable end u wanna route into the bike frame ,thats a bit of a hack ,use a magnetic to follow the cables into the exit hole u drilled ,an intermediate skill of basic soldering and cable splicing etc
Great series mate.
Great videos. Loved this series. What a beautiful bike
Thank you
Been watching u n AK for a while now. Have now subbed. Am gonna get one of those kits soon. Cheers 👌
I have the exact same set up on my calibre 2 cubed, however I have the controller and the battery separate so I can disconnect the battery and charge it in the house, wouldn't want to leave the battery in a cold garage over winter really..good vid. 👍
Great Video!
Do you have a video on how you installed the bars and thule on your E350?
I really want to do this now. Really interesting.
Great video!! I'm about build my own, the wheel arrived today but I was just wondering if they are meant to give you a tracking number for the battery that is yet to arrive?
Hey mate, just wanted to say you have a really good way of explaining things and showing how to do them, no nonsense. Cheers lad.
Appreciate that thank you
Really good video! many thanks chap!
Great build but just one question, dont you have to remove the battery to charge it?
i was thinking the same thing, dam good builds though, id love toon an e bike one day
Hi, fantastic work! i have just purchased the 500 kit form kirbebike, can you pop a link up for the small bag you used for the wiring please, many thanks and keep up the amazing work.
Im always watching your vedios, and im one of your subscriber😍
I’ve finally got it now just waiting on 48v 20sh battery so excited 😆
Excellent directions Ride Carefully
I was so pleased to see you using flush cut side cutters in the earlier video of this build, then you used scissors in this video. Cutting the cable tie tails off with scissors leaves a nice razor sharp end on the stub of cable tie, perfect to cut yourself to pieces on later. The tails need to be cut as close to the head of the cable tie as possible to avoid those evil razor sharp booby traps. Been there done that and got the scars.
Great video, I’m about to do a conversion myself, I’ve put this series of vids on save to refer to while do my build.
Thanks for the info, my 2000w kit has just arrived. Going to mount the controller to the case with extra strong Velcro available on Amazon, it sticks like shit and makes the controller removable.
May I know where you got your battery from? I'm seeing some mad prices.
Definitely have subscribed…….great series of videos….thanks…
Great vid mate 👍
I would recommend building this kit on a full suspension mountain or sand cruiser bike cuz the hub motor is heavy.... you will feel every little bump on the road
Thanks so much for this video it is really going to help me when I build mine
Glad to hear 🙏
so with the 3 wires, does this mean that the bike has regen braking so that it can charge the battery a little when braking?
The best of this kit is connecting the cables correctly: you can not miss it. The bag for the cables was a great idea, so clean look now!
Absolutely awesome 💙💙👍
my controller is on a pannier rack ,i prefer to be able to remove the battery when i lock it outside u see :) also good airflow there
Good video. Straightforward guy. best wishes.
Hi could you not fit a small bag under the seat like a tool bag for the wires and connectors.
Love the channel
Thank you for the video! really informative. Could I ask which brand/model that bag you have installed on the bike? thanks
A great series Steve. Is it possible to shorten the cables instead of a bundle of wires. Keep up the great videos
Sure you can if you want to spend the time.
I agree with your point for placing the controller out of a bag, but there's no need to run 1500w or 2000w, up to 1000w it's not really a problem to keep it in a bag and it's plenty fast
have u got any good links for solid torque arms ? them universal generic ones IMO do not work, the central nut no way has enough strength to withstand the torque of the axle ( i seen a few people simply use a small spanner that sits on the axle nut and strapped to the frame )
Awesome videos man. I loved when u said. BRB gonna put the kettle on and have a cup of tea because it’s hot outside 😂. That’s deffo the British way cause usually u would have a cold drink for hot weather.
You've knocked loads of these up recently! My first ebike was a 1500w hub. Great fun. My advice to anyone building is hydraulic brakes are a must, cable just doesn't cut it. As well as two torque arms/ plates either side to be safe. Newton himself said for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Keep it up Steve.
Is it tough to convert disc to hydraulic?
@@jasonpgallery cable actuated brakes to hydraulic. With cable you squeeze the lever and it pulls a cable through a pipe toward, clamping together the pads. With hydraulic, you squeeze the lever and it forces oil through a pipe, clamping that way. They're much more efficient at clamping. No it's not hard. Hardest part is if you need to shorten hoses and bleed the system, many times you can get the right length hose and plug-and-play. If you have more power, it only makes sense to have more stopping power to go with it.
Very well said people always ask if I'm afraid of the speed after I customized my ebike I say no I'm afraid of stopping in time. Next on the list 👌🏼
I build too and agree hydrologic brakes a must! I prefer mid motors but hubs allot easier. Torque arms a must too. Grin technologies has the best. And you'll be addicted! Lol god bless be safe on road
What's the range on the battery like ??
Nice one mate.
Where you have mounted the control box on the battery, how do you get the battery out when the controller hits under the top bar?
Thank you Steve.
Nice video, thx! is there a preferred way to mount the controller so you can take the battery off?
Adhesive velcro tape maybe a good option
Is there room to internally route some of the cabling along with the existing brake lines?
Great covertion 👍👍👍
Can you get kit in Australia.
Is there front wheel version.
Thank you.
Problem you should have took it for a spin witch I thought you would have done. Getting to controller I've got 2000wat the controller is the same for 1500wat that came with kit the battery 52v175 top speed 37 mph I've had it to 40mph but that was wind behind me. Is there an upgrade controller for 2000wat and to work on my 52v175 battery thanks Colin
Great video Steve
Thank you 🙏
For the last six months I’ve had an overheating controller till recently. I couldn’t Accelerate for too long as the wires from the motor would get really hot then go into the junction box then to the controller to the point the 3 wires got melted a little which are now insulated with tape so ive been going easy. Now since ive a new battery base as the old one broke from a crash , I also rearranged the wires in the bag , unplugging phaze Connector and reconnected it. I used a proper crimping tool to put the Anderson pole connectors in the plugs then on my new base wires No soldering needed and now the phaze and controller runs flawless. I also have a new 21 amp hour battery instead of the old 20 ah that flew off the bar last year due to not being locked Dow aha. was well gutted lucky there was no fire. Now with all the upgrades It goes as it should and It hardly ever gets hot and i can run the 2000 watts happily no over heat In phaze and just gets warm so I can throttle for much longer I’m so chuffed . No more over heating worry. I must of done something right. Aha 👍
Nice videos! Subscribed!
Great job !
I'm wondering how difficult is to change the back tire ?
How much of the secured cables and stuff have to be removed ?
Cause it seems to me it's gonna be a pain....
from what I know of hub drives, maintenance can be a nuisance, I run a mid drive though, so never personally dealt with it
I don't know if this was said before, but i'd recommend 'Green slime', or simiar in the rear tube.
Have you a link for a small controller bag you’ve used to put the cables in
I used them stick on cable clips on my mid drive build it’s so much neater
Is there regen breaking and does it actually charge the battery?
Great explanations. I would like to see a very light minimal frame with very waterproof electrical component construction. The military used bicycles in WWI and II This kind of mobility makes sense. Try and do a future build with all the great ideas you have. Thanks.
How do you take your battery out if your in a shopping centre? Very very good build.
It can't be taken off without the key.
Great video mate, what model giant is that
Hey there how's it going dude this is Chris from Tampa FloridaI was just wondering does the kit come with a charger for the battery thanks man I love this series on how to turn a bike into an e-bike I thought it would be a lot harder it makes me want to buy a kit and turn my bike into an e-bike I think I'm going to I live in the United States what is a good kit that you recommend say about a $500 to $600 kit thanks man I love you videos
Can you provide a link to the wire storage bag you used. Great video series. Thanks.
I cant find one .the only thing i have came close to is a saddle bag and small
Would be nice to see some mid drives get more builds don't get why as a tire change is like a regular bike..
In regards to setting up the display, is this why you left out the pedal assist on your initial installation footage?
Nice one thanks
So if you change the size of the rim down say from the 28 to 20 in the settings will it try to achieve the it's max speed by speedo. So you would be doing like over 50mph?
Fab build man......I want it!!!!!!!
Why do you use thumb operated throttles? Isn't a half twist grip throttle easier on your hand? I currently have a thumb throttle and find my thumb and hand get tired after awhile. I plan to change to a half twist grip throttle.
Thanks for all the infos!! One thing, is there another way or place to fit the Battery? Cause my mountain bike dont have the holes to fit a water Bottle rack...
You could buy a rivbolt tool and drill and fit the holes.
Nice work 👍
What they like in British rain ?. Wanted to take mine to commute to work on but would mean being locked up outside in the rain
Nice 👍 one I think I’ll give that a go
Hi mate
Great vid i like your style, and tips
Thanks ..jack in Australia
Welcome bro and thank you 😊
Great video.
I was wondering what you use as a daily commute
I’m in !!👌👍🇦🇺🍺
Good series of videos! Is there a link to the kit? Just subscribed 👍
Do you add a torque sensor or a cadence sensor to your build?
I see you go for rear motor in most of your builds! do you think theyre better than mid motor or its just ur personal preference?
Thanks for this video. I want to do a similar build but I start to realize that I better stick to my Bafang BBSHD. These hub motor kits are simply not weather proof by design. The connectors to the controller are too exposed.
Brilliant videos my only concern what happen when you get the inevitable puncture ? in the middle of nowhere.
Use sealant or convert to tubeless again with puncture sealant 👌
Can you have pedal assist and the throttle both work at the same time?
After gluing the controller to the battery, how do you remove the battery to bring it inside for charging? Seems impossible, since it's all wired up, together with the controller.
You have to bring the whole bike inside.
How do the plugs (especially the small ones ) hold upto water ingress?
Looking forward to the paddle board.
I’ve really enjoyed these in depth vids on this bike 👍
Hello... Good effort there, good video...
I noticed your work stand and having an ebike a stand is tricky to get stable... What make model do you have? The blue and black would suggest Park Tools?
Aldi
@@DudeStuff thanks
I'm about to do a stretched out chopper e bike with 2,000 w or 5000 watt hub motor or maybe making it all wheel drive haven't decided
Can you change the speed limits for settings 1 threw 5 , 0 I get no power as expected and 1 threw 5 seem to be all the same
