Cheaper way to make your own silicon moulds is buy 100% silicon type you put in caulking gun . Get a bucket water and put washing up liquid in it , then using the caulking gun squeeze all the silicone into the bucket of water. Then keeping it submerged in the water just kneed it till comes like dough then cover what it is you want to mould . Leave it to set . Came across a video showing this when was wanting to mould rocks for my fish tank
This is by far one of the best videos I've found on mold making for common modellers. I was actually looking for a good mold making video to do something very similar to what you've done - making casting of rock faces, and this is hits the mark. Great video - short, precise and to-the-point. Now time to place that order for the basic Lego building blocks. 😂
Hi,I am sorry maybe I missed it somehow, what kind of plaster did you used? I have beautiful open geode crystals rock I want to make mold of it and was looking for way to make it somehow. I think I can try it with your method .
This video is underrated
Thank you
WOW that is so much easier than I assumed it would be THANKS!
Cheers Dan. As long as you have a good Dam you are all good
Brilliant and simple. Thanks for the great ideas and tips
Thank you for your kind comments

I have since seen a similar video as well. Perhaps a video like this I will do.

Cheers Kaustav, it really isn’t that hard once you have been shown.

Hi, very interesting and informative. With lots of great tips. Thanks. See ya next time.
Thanks Norman. These rocks are more details than commercially bought molds I have. Probably cheaper in the long run as they will last much longer.
What if I want to have the exact rock and make it into silicon, how do I do that? Thank you!
I assume you mean, instead of making the rock out of plaster?
@@ModelRailroadTechniques yes that’s what I mean. I need to make the rock out of silicon.
Can the block surround be lined in plastic food wrap prior to the plaster step to eliminate leaks, or would that create problems?
Great question. Never thought of that. I don’t think would it create an issue. With this mold I had very little leakage.
I know quite a few people who would cut an arm and a leg for that bit of rice. I hope it is put to good use?
It was the used. No rice was wasted.
Rice .Is a food .😤👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
Don’t get your point
