The Premier League is widely regarded as the most entertaining. As Magnus Henderson writes, despite Spain’s dominance in the European competitions, it is England’s Premier League that is the most popular league in the world, thanks, in part, to their dominance of the TV market.
But how do television rights work? Let’s find out...

As an English-speaking Asian viewer, I think Premier League, in being English itself, is already a significant advantage. The whole viewing experience is unmatched against other top 5 leagues, from pre-match analysis to in-game commentary to post-match. No doubt other leagues are trying, but with English being the international language, Premier League will always have this linguistic advantage.
That’s interesting. Only a matter of time til another language (Mandarin) catches up.
Yup, linguistic advantage is a big big factor ...
Really interesting observation. I don't think I'd ever think of this.
Jajel22 no one is going to be speaking mandarin as a neutral langue lmao. It will forever be, especially for the next few generations, English.
@@jajel2274 You need to look at how many people are using english on the internet and academic papers, spoilers: no other language is even close. Even Chinese businessmen speak english.

As a Venezuelan I am pleased to agree with you
Any Andorran second division fans here!! 🇦🇩🇦🇩🇦🇩🇦🇩🇦🇩
The title should be “why PL is the most popular league”
Answer: because communism
100% English language has an advantage.
No because the mathes are more fun instead of betis vs sevilla i would watch fullham vs aston villa
@@quantum2233 Lol. Did you even watch a game? EPL is filled with foreign players from other leagues. Shameful to call the league-best when the it takes players from other leagues. Hypocrisy at its finest. English Media does that very well.
Crave Leaks why is having foreign players bad. It’s not the country we’re talking about is the league, not the country.
Constructive criticism: I love your vids, watched you obsessively since around 15k subs, but I kinda think that the content of the video is not so much in line with the title of the video. I thought you were gonna do analyses, statistics and such, comparing the top 5 leagues, but here it seems that you focused mainly on the broadcasting money redistribution, which is important for this topic but does not answer the question entirely for me
analysing which league has the best teams overall would be a much better fit. its probably the prem though since even the small teams have superstar players like grealish and vardy.
@@johnnyboi331 every league has small teams with star players. Not saying this about you, but in general pl fans don't pay attention to other leagues and think that because they haven't heard of someone, that they're shit. Which is a terrible way to look at it and is why people rate other leagues lower.

@@roronoazoro-136 if you put that guy in man city does he create enough chances to win the league? thats what a superstar is for me. vardy will score enough. grealish will assist enough. so will bruno, moreno even james rodriguez will. but in order to go from superstar to world class you need to add goals. thats where mueller comes in.
Roronoa Zoro grealish is definitely a superstar his stats and presence prove this. Also being punched by a rival fan at a derby game then scoring the winner put him on the map too. He’s a star for sure. UTV 🦁
Oh and we just beat Liverpool 7-2 😆 he scored 2 and assisted 3.
"which league is the best league"
Only talks about 2
Because its between them 2 no one talks about seria A being the best anymore
Bundesliga, Serie A & Ligue 1 are nowhere near as competitive as these 2, while other leagues simply lack quality.
@@RFC_16 serie A should be up there, coz they got juventus, inter, milan, lazio, napoli but i dunno why they are still a far bit away from EPL and la liga
Raymond Qiu because they only get around a 1/4 of what relegated teams in the prem get
Nafiz Riyad you know their are more competitve leagues around the world. In terms of competiton and uncertainity. Not talking about quality, but uncertainity and competitiveness
"The league where anyone can beat Anyone" 4th October 2020 that has never been more true.
I seriously think this is a overrated clame and overused, any league anyone can beat anyone, that is the magic of football. Last season Benfica lost the portuguese title most likely thanks to a game at home to a result of 3-4 to Santa Clara, a team from a small Island, this season Bayern just lost for 4 goals against a average German side, Barcelona has lost to a weak Osasuna at home etc etc
The most competitive professional leagues, most likely are the Brazillian league, in which truly any team is big and can beat anyone, go look how many teams have won the title last decade and compare to the EPL. Now the EPL is the one with best marketing, best conditions etc no question about that, but now saying is the most competitive, i have alot of doubts about that. realistically you think the top 6 can win the league? Doubt it.
Your Senpai it’s not “overrated “.... you are saying that the Brazilian leauge might as well be titled as the best but everyone knows epl is a big 5 leauge and also it’s very uncertain with 6 or 7 teams that will do well in the ucl while others have 1 or 2
In every league that happens. Nothing new. 4th October was just crappy football played by Liverpool. Disgusting football.
@@samuelbiswas615 they do well in the Champions league, but how much actually will win it? Not to mention, alot of those teams are there in the first place thanks to Billionaires. And im surprised the video didnt talk about Serie A, in which from the 80s (some even may say since the 60s) to the early 2000s was the best league in the world.
@@gordusmaximus4990 You're saying this after Aston Villa beat Liverpool 7-2. Spurs beat Man U 5-1 and Leeds drew 1-1 with Man City and 4 years ago Leicester Won the league.....

Alternative title: Why the PL need Ibrahim Sangare to cement their claim to the best league in the world.
Why Ibrahim Sangare will eclipse Messi and Pele
LMAO they liked this
LMFAOO
PSV snatched him up. PSV 2021-2022 CL winners confirmed.
Whats is with Ibrahim Sangare?
When Leicester won the league it showed that anyone can get up and win it. The talent playing in the EPL is way more evenly distributed than the other major leagues making it a far more enjoyable league to follow IMO. I like the possibility of smaller clubs coming from nowhere and taking the title.
Nailed it.
TV money was given evenly to all clubs so each could buy a top player or coach. If you're a player who wants to increase value you can go Southampton for a few seasons, then make a more lucrative move to big six. Also Premier league has free flowing football. I watched a la liga game, it was like watching American football. Play stopping every 20 secs.
@@nauxsi And this season we have West Ham pushing for a CL spot, not to mention Brentford and Brighton are sitting mid-table at the moment. Every game is winnable, even if you're near the bottom playing a top club.
You're correct on La Liga. They've also lost a lot of firepower to other leagues, so it's not what it was.
That also shows why the prem is not a farmers league. Leicester isn’t necessarily one of the best in the prem but they still won it. I like it to cause it’s boring when it’s predictable e.g Barcelona and Real Madrid is kind predictable (not always but a lot of the time).
Exactly prem is not predictable at all the lines between big dog and underdog are the most blurred compared to all other leagues. You don’t have any idea of what will happen, upsets that will shock the league etc. Prem is also fundamentally unique in that it’s the only league that has even more leagues within it
yes and no. it also showed how teams like city choked. every player there is the best in the world being payed millions i think it showed as well over overrated these top teams were and not consistent
The reason why PL is exciting is because you never know which team may emerge as the underdog and challenge for the title. Anyone can beat anyone. Both Utd and Liverpool got destroyed last night which no one expected. The PL is unpredictable which is what makes it exciting unlike other leagues where we are having the same 1 or 2 teams as champions since the last decade
Unpredictability is not limited to the PL alone. The different winners thing is also a little bit overblown.
@@ryuk3950 5 different winners in the last 10 years. Can't say that about other top 5 leagues.
Bundesliga, Serie A, French league has just one winner for 5+ year while La Liga just oscillate between Madrid and Barcelona. In the premier league you can't even predict top 4.
PL attratc the best players and is really competetive there are 9 teams playing for top 4 unlike France Germany and Italy before the ball is kicked you know the champions and the team in top 4
@@ivailobumbovski4286 yea and selling tv rights to countries has a big affect. Like would you pay to buy the whole premier league which has competitive clubs or pay for games of lower teams in other leagues. Like ppl are gonna stream and buy only for top clubs in other leagues that aint in premier league whether its scotland netherlands turkey portugal ligue 1 serie a bundesliga or la liga. It makes sense to buy the premier league package compared to other leagues where their only gonna by rival games of the top clubs. I bet u they wanna make the championship in egland the next big league. They are gonna make it a top league with loan players rising stars u23 players and top class players that would make that league extravagant.
In the 1980s it was Italy. La Liga is consistently the best since the late 1990s. They win in Europe as pointed out, and they play the best technical football (Premier League and Bundesliga are more physical). The Premier League's financial muscle might be too powerful, however, and we'll soon see the best football in England.
Also English is sort of considered the whole world's lingua franca. So international broadcast of the EPL can be enjoyed slightly easier even in countries that don't have native language broadcast translators.
“Anyone can beat anyone”
Both Madrids, Barca and Sevilla : “Should we concede 7 goals against Osasuna to get all hype “
Currently Barca: I guess YES, we should. For the sake of La Liga!
no, but it could have better standards and quality, overall, throughout more of the clubs in La Liga though. Like the EPL 😉 then they wouldn't have to "manufacture conceding 7 goals to against Osasuna to get all hype". 😁🙄😉
I was here to see where Serie A was in this conversation. Disappointed. Thought it would be a comparison of strength of teams in the top 5 leagues and seeing how that's evolved over time, but instead it's primarily talking TV rights for two leagues only.
Inter getting knocked out even though leading Serie A tells the whole story. Also Juve lost to Porto who are third in Liga NOS.
@@masrimus1607 Inter have had the group of death for a few years running in the Champions League. When Spurs made the final, Inter lost to them after playing badly by the away goals matchup, that's how close it was. Bayern lost 4-1 to a minor team in Bundesliga this season, a few off games for a team doesn't prove anything. Man United are doing well in Premier League but were also knocked out of Champions League from an easier group than Inter's.
Juve having a transition season under first time head coach Pirlo.
PSG just lost again in France and are not at the top of their table but thrashed Barcelona who were on great form.

Ah yes, that equitable income distribution in the EPL...that results in them getting trounced by Sevilla in the UEL every year.

@Dave Brookes Exactly..Tifo is one of the best
And Fulham was used twice and Leicester was removed from the table
Why is the discussion on which is the best league a purely financial one? The video didn't really fit the title
English media is successful in hyping the Premier League. The myth of being the 'best league' was intact even when English clubs consistently performed poorly in international competitions. It doesn't matter if they're the best or not, what matters is that they made fans believe they're the best.
And it is the best league what is your point lol
@@bod9934 if that was the case how many english teams has won the ucl in the last 10 years? They are good in their own league but when pitted against other teams in other leagues they perform average

Nah, people will eventually got fed up with the bullshit if there's no real stuff in it. Nothing beats good management
D Whitely Well it’s the most evenly balanced top league, most of the ucl’s of the recent past were dominated by Madrid, barca, and Bayern. 3 different English teams have won the ucl since the 21st century and 5 have made the final
@@dominic1332 well it is certainly true to some point that English teams fail to get results in the Ucl. I would highly doubt that they are incapable of winning it but as the intensity of the league is so high that Ucl feels like a normal game. And on the other side Ucl has always favoured spanish teams. Referees were often biased. Madrid, barca are also an oligopoly in the league. They are mad rich. Laliga basically pays them a lot higher for the rights. Its easy to win ucl and laliga with the funds they provide whereas epl provides fair share. So income is tremendously competitive. Never saw any english player who was good in epl to fail in other leagues but saw many other league players failing or struggling tremendously in epl
Probably the Brazilian league. They have a top12 the madlads.

@@Maxim89Il Yeah, the best club here, Flamengo, is a mix of Europe flops and rejections. Brazil have a decent league, but definitively not one of the best in the world
@@muniz8 I mean, Europe flops and rejections that took Liverpool all the way to extra time with a fairly evenly contested match. Put Flamengo in the premier league and they won't be anywhere near relegation zone, I can assure you that. But fair enough, most of the other clubs are substantially worse off financially and that, inevitably, brings the level of the league down. But in terms of match day uncertainty, it's honestly pretty good, it's not uncommon to have some pretty major surprises with theoretically worse sides, such as Chapecoense with their Sudamericana success. The accident they suffered was devastating, unfortunately...
@@nicholasq203 Flamengo is a decent team. They were able to take Liverpool to extra time by parking the bus. I think that the only reason they dominated Brazil and South America last year was because of, as you said, the financial problems of most teams not only in the country, but in the continent. In others conditions, they wouldn't have so much dominance over the league as they had.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the Tifo/Athletic stuff, and am a subscriber to The Athletic, and Tifo, but always think after every video that it would be such a vast improvement from assing an extra moment to let the content settle, before moving on to promote The Athletic’s offers.
It’s just a bit jarring.
I think the English language also really helped the premier league since it is a universal language.
Yep and investment and the other leagues ligue1 serie a la liga had many money problems club ownership. Bundesliga was once a top league were top players were spread out between the teams evenly. But that changed example bayern, So certain clubs basically got bigger financial backing and made these teams lucrative. Thats why england looked at other sports they were selling a package of a league were all teams are competitive so its just gone around in a circle if you look at bundesliga for example their trying to do similar thing to what happened to bundesliga in 90s with top players spread out around clubs. La liga and serie a always had the best south american players cause of language and for brazilians portugal is a way into europe I remember when ajax was a rich club or psv in the 90s. That all changed when the premier league got the right rules to stop clubs going into liquidation or bankrupt they soughted out their marketing and finding investors. England also was a better place to do business cause of the stock exchange in london and the business side to it and also it has a good relationship with american investors. And with countries like asia africa middle east for example television companys are really only gonna buy a league rights where viewers are willing to watch competitive matches compared to other leagues. Where as other leagues your buying rivalry games of top teams in countries. Whether its scotland turkey portugal germany spain france italy and so on.
Not really since in 2016 our relegation league was more popular than every league except the epl and bundesliga. We just have good support for our clubs honestly don’t even need other countries to watch

Some stats: Record of La Liga vs Prem ties in KO rounds of Europe since 2010 is 23 Wins La liga , 7 Wins Premier League
Point gap in prem 18/19 1st to 20th was 82 points. In la liga it was 55. 19/20 in prem it was 78 points. In la liga it was 62. Man city alone had more in league wins by 4+ goals than Barca, atleti, and real combined last season.
@SP with the exception of the leicester season that’s not even true- the two front runners for the prem are always very clear from the start of the season. Regardless, the number of potential winners is not what makes a league better. The MLS has a different winner every year, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best league in the world lmao. La Liga has the highest quality football from top to bottom. That’s why it’s the best league.
The PL definitely is the best marketed football league. Even with much more parity of the financial pie and the much touted any team can beat any team on any day or the even wilder claim that they have six team constantly competing for the title we clearly see tiers with only three teams max at any one time capable of actually winning the league.
There are clear patterns of dominance there, however the marketing campaign and format with elements like playing through the Christmas holidays help cast it as the most demanding and exciting league.
The point is there are 6 big teams that COULD win the title if they get things right. Of course they never all get it right at the same time - they're all p different cycles. And if they all get it wrong an underdog like Leicester can win it. 5 different winners in the past 10 years and you can't predict which teams will get it right each season. That's the unpredictability lacking in other big leagues where it's a monopoly or duopoly for the title with the same one or two teams.
@@luckyboy4766 looks that way.... yet you just admitted that there is hardly ever a case where all of the top 6 PL clubs get it right so there is always a gap and in reality not all of the big 6 have an equal chance of winning it, even with that established the big 6 hardly changes season to season and takes at least a decade and a lot of money for the lowest two of the top 6 teams to cement breaking into the top 4. Pool spent a while languishing outside of the top 4 and as a big club they're back, with Arsenal on the slide yet teams like Everton or even the fairytale Lester can't crack the top 4 and stay. It took Roman coming to CFC to put them in the convo for consistent PL contenders. Outliers like Lester happen once every 20 years or more.... the league looks unpredictable yet if you step back, take a broader view very clear patterns and tiers emerge... where one or two teams dominate at a time as the genuine title contenders then a second tier of at max 3 teams competing to round out the top 4 then a further 2-3 teams challenging to round out the top 6 with positional jostling from the same clubs in the same tier brackets.
From there mid table is a toss up and like other leagues more often than not at least 2/3 or all of the newly promoted teams get relegated.
What really sells it is the style... most teams play in a typical English way and neither usually has control over tempo for too long... leading to end to end matches often... almighty scrambles around MF and goal without much more quality compared to other leagues... fans buy into that as football is generally a low scoring game compared to other big globally followed games like cricket, rugby, basketball...
It is an amazing league and is very well marketed. Claims of 6 clubs being able to win it every season is part of the sales pitch, an exaggeration for effect.
I own a moderate sized farm in southern France that operates in the summer months and I can confirm during our off season most of my employees go off to play in Ligue 1
"Which is the beste league?"
Talks only about two leagues at all...
IDK man, I expected a different video with this title.
"The League where anyone can beat anyone."
Aston Villa 7, Liverpool 2.
True, and the anyone can be anyone tag would mean a lot more if villa could actually win a title. Anybody beating anyone on any given day is a nice manipulative way of saying, little teams can still win games but we all know the big boys win titles
@@conors4430 Exactly.
I think the reason la liga is behind the premier league is the league is not properly marketed. The rely on star ppwer of players at Barca and madrid to market the league like Ronaldo,Messi ,Neymar, Ronaldinho and Beckham whiles in England they market their teams a club like arsenal who don't have any superstars at the moment still attract a large viewership despite the fact that Henry has long since retired.
What a beautiful channel! Sophisticated content/viewership, love it x
u answered why PL is the most popular league. big difference between popular and best. best league means where the quality of futbol, the tactical side of it is superior. & that's laliga. proven by the european dominance of MADRID, BARCA, SEVILLA, ATM..or even the other laliga teams who have beaten PL teams most of the teams whenever they have faced each other in UCL or UEL.
And the reason why it watch more because they get more rights in most counties because of the Queen ruling alot of countries, that's a mere fact,so they will get more money on the TV right, the other top leagues dont because they dont watch in every country because they don't have the rights, alot of people don't look at this
please talk about African Leagues and South American League too.
Lol
I watch lots of global football leagues and here are my honest views of each continents best league
Asia: Emirati top flight, new winners every season (although there is an established big 4) and there are more local players than foreign players
Africa; Maybe the Egyptian league, even though it’s kinda a farmers league
Oceania: the Aussie soccer league
North America: MLS (only choice)
South America: Brazilian league, many top teams with equal level, develop young lads and sell to European giants, huge presence in continental football
Europe: (most debatable) prem, unlike neighbouring countries, we have new winners every couple of seasons, we see a dark horse every now and then, surprising results like in the Manchester derby 6-1, Liverpool 2 Villa 7 and arsenal vs United 8-2, even though it’s the league with the most toxic fanbase, it’s that way because it’s the most popular, hence why there are more bad apples than usual
@@bluest.9320 You are obviously not a man of culture if you think the MLS is better than LIGA MX (Mexico's top league), whose team's beat out MLS teams regularly to win CONCACAF champions league.

Aston Villa VS Liverpool

Soooooooo when do we start talking about the English bias seeping into Tifo Football?
About EPL's popularity. Just look at the media an English speaker consumes. It's all from the perspective of the EPL 90 percent of the time. Obviously the league that gets the most exposure gets more popular and hence gets more foreign TV deals.
If the world language was Spanish or Italian or German, those leagues would be with most cash in flow right now. Simple as it gets.
What language did you type this in?
Mate what are you on about… the English relegation league was more popular than every league except the bundesliga and premier league because of loyalty. We don’t need foreign fan viewership it’s just a bonus. Also the Spanish league pay on an individual basis Meaning there’s a pyramid. While in Germany they don’t have this they have a problem of willingly giving players cheap to the biggest teams which the epl countered lately by asking for a massive amount to make them stop and give them an advantage.
In 2016 the championship was more popular than every league except epl and bundesliga. A league that no one from another country watches. Maybe you Middle Eastern should stop being bias against English and actually support your own countries local clubs instead.
Answer: Bundesliga
Why: 50+1, enough said. Football is for the people
Yes, the people love watching the same team win the league year in and year out while poaching other German clubs best players, sometimes even on a free transfer. "For the people" lol.
@@ren2871 about poaching the best players:
It quite literally happens in nearly every league, and is done by every big club, its literally the only reason why big clubs manage to stay big: by buying out their opposition. Just look at where liverpool got mane or van dijk from as an example. Or where ramos used to play before joining real, or griezmann before even joining atletico (before joining barca, like the first time he joined atleti).
I’m gonna go ahead and say the German League is catching up with the PL in terms of organised structure. Still a way to go with unpredictability and entertainment.
The league table at 5:30 hahahahahaha
Obviously Aston Villa should be on the top, above Tottenham, Leeds and Leicester
@Tifo Football a video about which league is best based on a variety of team, competition, and player statistics would be very interesting
Well, after last night's results this is a aptly timed upload 👀
I believe that La Liga's high European ranking stems from the fact that their top sides have to put in less effort beating the down-table sides than their PL counterparts. Barcelona and RM can basically sleepwalk through lesser sides with ease, and 6-0 and 8-0 scores are commonplace. They can then concentrate their energies on UCL and the like. In the PL, the lower-level sides are much stronger, and top sides have to put more effort to gain wins. Also, there are like 6-7 "big" clubs in the PL vying for top honors, as opposed to 2 or 3 in the other leagues.
Totally agree. The pl causes a lot more burn out than la liga. Plus the frozen pitches in winter result in lot more injuries. So at the seasons end when the final stages come around la liga sides are a lot fresher with far fewer injuries.
In my opinion there are fifteen major clubs across Europe with worldwide recognition and an international fanbase (also happens to be the same clubs founding the super league)
These are
6 from England
3 from Spain
3 from Italy
2 from Germany
1 from France
Title should have been about tv rights. Completely missed out on the opportunity on talking about how the Spanish teams have dominated European competitions with smaller budgets than the English clubs and lower tv deals
The PL is without doubt the best league in the world by FAR. Hence why Pep has stayed here for nearly 8 years compared to 4 in spain and 3 in germany...

The competitiveness is its key selling point and its been that way for decades, even when you see seemingly unbeatable teams like City or Liverpool, someone seems to always be able to stop them. You’ll never see that in most other leagues.
I would love a video about what style of play is preferred in what league
bundesliga is tops for "matchday uncertainty"
Right now seria A is playing the best football
@One Indian boy same as the epl, la liga and other leagues
serie a had 3x more pens than the bundesliga, pl and la liga added together, nothing but a penalty league
@@bungeespeaks6081 Penalty is as a result of attacking and it favours attacking teams the most, with tye arrival of cr7 seria A has become a very attack league and hence a lot of goals being scored and penalties being awarded.

The main reason is Britain colonized half the world in the past, so because of that many people speak English and hence watch the Premier League. Also the money surely helps to attract better players and coaches. Its not like the football in England is better than other leagues.
The Argentine Primera is excellent to watch and support a team in.
High quality, lots of theatrics, plenty of gamesmanship and a league with a "Big 5" (6 if you count my team Velez Sarsfield) who people expect to win titles and with about 5 other teams that will win the title on a semi-regular basis.

You are right we all know those leagues corrupted themselves. No one wants to invest in a whole league in spain france italy those 3 in particular to much corruption. La liga is falling way behind serie a can only get players from loans to buy. Bundesliga cant afford to buy expensive players. Juventus psg athletico madrid real madrid can afford expensive players even bayern buys all its top players from bundesliga or trys to get a cheaper price.
as long as Madrid and Barca exist
it won't happen
@Mantorras Montquilla its gone full circle if you look at other sports what they do is have salary caps or make sure top players are spread around teams in a league. Where football went wrong from the late 90s is that one or two clubs got financial backingin their leagues and they brought up all the best players. So what premier league has done in order to make the leagues competitive again like other sports is having to invest in every club in the league hence making sure every club has top qaulity players. Thats why the mls has a salary cap and you get different teams winning also their comp is different resulting in a competitive league.
I would have actually watched more than a third of this video if it had been focused on, you know, actually answering the question posed in the title.
Very misleading title from what I thought was a very intelligent and honest channel, I see a few comments saying similar, Sadly I hope it was worth the views.
Your children where brought to you by the Athletic footballs in-depth analysis
The English language might also be a factor for the PL's popularity.
Yup, good point
It's a massive factor, considering English is the most influential language in the world
That is a large part of it, but not even the biggest part since any football league can hire English commentary and production. Their first-to-market aspect is even bigger; the PL and Sky Sports basically created global distribution of professional soccer on television. The La Liga followed and their language helped them too, but the French league has nowhere near as much global distribution as the Spanish league despite also having a popular language spoken in many regions.
The only way to evaluate all 5 TOP European leagues is by looking at the results between their teams in European competitions:
In the last 20 years 50% of European titles have been won by Spanish team.
In the last 10 years: 20 Spanish titles (61%) 8 English titles (24%) 5 German titles (15%)
Spanish teams have been finalist in 28 times of 33 European finals in the last 10 years.
In the last 20 years La Liga has had the greatest variety of European champion teams of any league: Spain (5), England (4), Germany (2), Italy (1)
What Premier League has is a huge economic bubble produced by investments from Arabic sheikhs, Russians oligarchs and American investment funds, that´s all.
Imagine if there was a league cup were the best players of each represent a league. Like World Cup almost
Boy, you've opened a can of worms with this one...
"Why is the premier league the most watched"
Simple. The universal language is english and the language in england is english. So most of the time, a person would watch english prem because of the fact.
Actually you can expand this argument to the spanish league aswell, since their language is next in that ordner.
@Siyabonga Dube Perhaps. But im arguing for now.
@@d4rktranquility I would agree yeah
It's not that hard to pack your english speaking commentators and fly them to Italy, Spain, Germany or wherever. Therefore I don't see why the language should be the main reason for the PL being the most watched league in the world.
@@lonestarr1490 Yeah cause to gain more viewership since these leagues have their own language, introducing a variety of language commentary would up their views.
But you have to think here. Not all countries can access all language options.
I have three sports networks from where I am featuring football games feature football games from england, turkey, saudi, germany, and france.
I can tell you now that my country does not speak any other language other than our own and english. So its really hard for me to watch a football game where the commentator's language is not english. And i'm almost certain english commentaries of non english leagues/countries are only found in the internet. La liga's and Ligue 1's youtube channel do have english commentary.
They have to diversify their language commentaries cause like I said, english is the universal language and around the world it is more likely that a non-english person's second language is english than any other. You wont see premier league getting Spanish, italian, etc. commentary more often than non-english league have english commentary. Figure out why is that the case. Clue: Its what I said from the start.
They even managed to work in a hilarious joke at the end. Man United to get 98 points in the 20/21 season? That's gotta be the best punchline I've heard in years
I think UEFA’s coefficient ranking La Liga as the highest quality league has a lot to do with Messi and Ronaldo being there firing their teams into the latter stages over the years (I know Ronaldo has left I’m talking recent history) Plus the topic discussed in the video where La liga split the TV rights 4:1 in the big clubs favour which helps them establish a match day advantage over the smaller teams more often than not. That’s what allows them to be consistent in the CL cause they don’t have to play at nearly 100% to beat the smaller teams. Throw in a winter break and it’s easy to see why they maintain performance levels in the CL.
But la liga football is a very technical style and quite pleasing on the eye. Hopefully they can rebalance the tv payments even more so the competition levels go up from the smaller teams. Would make it more of a draw to watch.
"best" isn't the word that I'll use.
"well share tv right" is, or simply "richest".
premier league has always been entertaining. but the the best league in 1980s and 1990s was serie a without any rival. in 2000s it was between premier league and la liga. from 2010 to 2018 it was la liga. since 2018 premier league is the best.
I don't know about before 1980 era so no comments.
mid 70s to mid 80s was a decade of English dominance
I liked the video but the title is somewhat misleading. It should maybe be "why the PL is so popular" because that really the question that's been answered
LaLiga sold their Indian broadcast rights to Facebook. And man the experience is just awful. Streams lag, cuts off, buffering issues and so on. Commentary and the pundits are also bang average. I dont understand why they would treat such a massive market so poorly.
Yeah should have been Sony or something
Premier League: fast pace football best for entrainment.
Bundesliga: best young player featured.
Seri A: best defensive
Leage 1: best for scouting
La liga: probably for best footballing tactics and more technical. La liga is best to attract south American player. That's why they dominate ucl and Europe league.
La Liga doesn’t dominate Europe. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid dominate the UCL, while Sevilla dominates the UEL. Valencia deserves respect for being in the conversation as well, but La Liga as a whole does not dominate Europe.
La Liga tactics?
Doesn’t the EPL have Mourinho, pep, Carlos, klopp ? The most tactical managers
The defensive aspect of Serie A has come to an end. They average more goals nowadays than the other leagues.
MeOhYesMe Can you read? The individual CLUBS are the European forces. The Bundesliga is the only league headed in the direction of more competition apart from the Premier League. As a LEAGUE, the EPL is far more dominant in European competitions. When the same clubs are the only ones capable of getting there in the first place, it makes for a pretty terrible league.
blake melhuish Don’t forget Marcelo Bielsa.
Bundesliga is the best by far.
Better youth development.
Better stadia, beers and standing in the stands.
Better relationships with fans because of the 50+1 rule and lower ticket prices to keep the working class crowd in who make the noise.
Great quality throughout the league even if Bayern dominate more often than not.
Best CZcams and social media content and presence.
Biggest or richest isn't always best.
And bayern wins every year... so much fun
@@NakanoGhost27 nice and predictable that was, hence why I had already touched on that point.
Everything else is better in the Bundesliga, the list that I did and you ignored to go after one point, everything else is better.
La Liga has had only 4 different teams win it in the last 2 decades, Bundesliga has had 5 different winners in the same period, the Premier league has only had one more at 6 in the last 20 years.
The dominance of Bayern isn't enough of a negative, especially given some close run seasons by the other big sides in Germany and the overall competitiveness throughout the league, to actually have a valid point about it.
@@leonleeson5904 Bayern wins every year , it's a boring league, the viewing numbers speak for itself, nobody even takes notice when Bayern wins anymore. Prem is the best league in the world ,every manager that comes it says so.

Let's face it, you'll never have Elche beating Real Madrid 7-2 and Alavés spanking Barcelona 5-1 within a week in La Liga.
In the last 10 years the EPL had 5 different champions and nobody won more than twice in a row.
In the last 10 years the Bundesliga had 2 different champions and Bayern won 8 in a row...
In the last 10 years in La Liga they had 3 different champions with a single Atlético win other than full Real & Barca domination.
In France, since the full PSG takeover in 2012 they won every single Ligue 1 title except for one (won by Monaco).
Except for the 09-10 win of Inter, Serie A has been entirely dominated for 10 years by Juventus.
All the major European leagues are one or at most two horse races for a decade now, except the premier league. The tempo, the passion of the fans, the international language of the commentary, the generally high level of play even among the "smaller" clubs (hence the above mentioned freak results) means the EPL is the most entertaining to watch. It has a great combination of everything: quality, excitment, unpredictability, atmosphere and drama.
tempo 4/5...not much to say here :) could be 5/5 if the mind of some players could keep up with the pace on and off the pitch
passion of the fans 2/5...even before covid the ticket-prices were too high and MOST of the "fans" are on other continents...
language of commentary 5/5
high level of play among "smaller" clubs 2/5...would still be fodder for the likes of PSG, Real/Barca, Bayern and Liverpool and City showed that last season
atmosphere 3/5
drama 2/5...depends on media...english national team though 5/5
Conclusion: while the most entertaining it is just a rerun of Seria A in 80s/90s...take all the money from EPL and throw it on any of the other top leagues and you'll get almost the same overall score
Actually, most of this comment is wrong. Statistically, La Liga has been *more* competitive than the Premier League in recent years. There have been more upsets (Barcelona and Real Madrid *regularly* dropping points) whilst the top teams in England (City and Liverpool in the past few years) go entire seasons and only lose once or twice. As to the quantity of teams that dominate - over the past 10 years the Premier League has been dominated by 3 teams - Chelsea and City, and now more recently Liverpool. Arsenal and United are not what they once were and Spurs were never true title contenders. This is much the same as the big 3 in Spain (with Sevilla more recently joining the mix). If you want to go back further and include the likes of United and Arsenal then I shall simply go back further and include Valencia and Deportivo. As to title races themselves, they have been much more competitive in La Liga. In the Prem, it is a regular occurrence for a single team to run away with it (and to be able to figure out who will win between December and February). In Spain, this is not the case. The title races between the top 3 are extremely close and difficult to call. Take last season, for instance, where we all knew that Liverpool were going to win, but the title race between Real and Barça went to the penultimate game of the season (with Barcelona on top of the table until the final few games). On average, title winners in La Liga are wrapping up the league with much fewer points than their English counterparts. Where it is now common place for City and Liverpool to get into the 90, sometimes 100, point margin, the big Spanish teams are winning in the 70 and 80 point margins. This is because of the competitive nature of the league and regularity of shock results. To look at the relegation zone, more points are required, on average, in order to guarantee survival in La Liga than in the Premier League (implying a much tighter title race). Add to this the fact that it is, on average, less likely for a newly promoted team to be instantly relegated in La Liga and you realise that the league is competitive top-to-bottom because there isn’t such a big gulf in quality in Spain as there is in England. In England, you have a handful of teams who are too good for the Championship but not good enough for the Premier League. These teams often (over the course of years) straddle the two leagues until they eventually either break through or run out of the financial fire power to maintain that level. This simply doesn’t happen as frequently in Spain. Take Eibar, for instance. This is a team with a stadium capacity of 4,000 in a city of 20,000 inhabitants. In 2014 they were promoted to La Liga for the first time and due to their tiny size and lack of finances they were expected to instantly get relegated. Fast forward to 2020 and they are still in the top division, having proven themselves more than capable of competing in the highest level of world football. They have, on multiple occasions, caused big upsets (including beating Real Madrid multiple times - notably a 3-0 victory against Los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2018/19). This, according to the stats, is much less frequent in England. Finally, it is worth talking about the more competitive nature of the 4th place and also Europa League spots in Spain. Far more Spanish teams compete for these spots than in England and (very often) it ends up being a curse. A team like Sociedad, Celta, Valencia or Getafe might get European football, but because of the added games and the highly competitive nature of La Liga, they find themselves in a relegation battle or in the bottom half of the next season, allowing for new teams to attempt to compete for Europe - maybe Bilbao, Sevilla, Levante or Betis. So, to conclude: You’re chatting rubbish mate. You’re peddling the same lies that ignorant Premier League fans always repeat. It simply isn’t true.
Best in what terms though? Quality of football? Excitement of the race for the division title and relegation? Most equitable between trams?
For me, till recently the Premier League on quality and The Championship on equity and excitement - but the effects of recent changes to visas may very well change that in the very near future.
