On my playthrough I sent in my tiefling bard, had her pay me in advance for the heist, and then called Lae'zel from the bushes like "hey, I think you'll like this one" and we happily battled and defeated the Karen x)

I played as a Lolth cleric, I stood there trying to think of a way to justify this because this was clearly evil and chaotic and therefore Lolth would enjoy it. I couldn't. The Spider Queen would rain all known torture on anyone who would steal one of her eggs.
If I know Lolth, she'd be ok with it as long as it wasn't spiders you were offending, or kidnapping a child from one of her favored clerics. She could care less about what happens to anyone else, even other Lolthsworn Drow.
You can roleplay a cleric who isn't blindly devoted. Sure Lolth won't care if you steal the Githyanki egg, but she also won't care if you steal the Githyanki egg ( the Gith are planning on destroying the egg because it's "weak" hatching too slowly ) then run off with it. There's an epilogue where you can ask Laezel how's the egg and she's either raising him like her son or the egg is being babysat by trusted friends
The more I think on Esther the more I realize how horrible she is. I said something along the lines of “that’s terrible I won’t help you” and she instantly became hostile and tried to kill me. She’s so unstable!
Baldur's Gate giving us once more another beautiful metaphor/representation of discrimination. Playing as a Tiefling and Githyanki has been eye-opening to say the least.
Racism with tiefielings are indeed stupid bad, but with gith... Joking. Although the githyanki is in the majority of time a very self centred race with a no bullshit manner for no one besides they are just like the folks of the emerald grove, they just don't interact with other folks often, passing their whole life in their creches and rarely talking with other people, especially the astral githyanki that almost never go to any other plans besides the astral.
the humans at emerald cove at the literal start of the game call the tieflings devils (which in this universe is a pretty harsh insult/slur) who only care for their own and that the entire tiefling refugee group were blamed for the town of elturel being transported to the hells because they resemble both demon/devil kind@@jojomaster7675

This quest was actually pretty fun for me, then again I was playing tiefling who already got paid upfront cause nat 20, and wasn’t gonna do it but I was heading in that direction and went, “might as well” It’s actually pretty fun, when I got to the guy watching over the egg, in my disguise I was able to convince him to let me take the egg somewhere safe, because he said that vas or whoever was pressuring him to destroy the egg. And it’s so cool cause you learn the gith doctor was late Hatcher too so that’s why he wanted to give the egg a chance to hatch. It’s amazing how much you can learn or not learn based on your choices in this game. Yes I did take the egg and gave it to the lady, but now it was more so I felt sympathy, he wanted the egg to be able to hatch and thrive like him, so if there is a chance it will hatch and not be destroyed by the pressure of the leaders, then I’m willing to take that chance even tho I hate the whole “savages” comments. (I’m Hispanic, folks like me have been called such things before, but sometimes life is a better option than death in my head)

So if you take the egg later on and end up in baldur's gate with it, without having given it to her, there is a duergar there that basically admits to planning to accelerate the child's growth and seeing if it will stay 'good' under light torture/torment. So giving them the egg is actually very bad for the child. I had wondered if it might be good, since I killed them all anyway, and I was like no reason to just leave this here to die. But no, giving it to them would likely be horrible.

My human vengeance paladin is just friends with Lae'zel, we still dunked Lady Esther like a rotton pumpkin. Imagine my surprise when the egg guard basically forced me to take the egg. So now I just have a gith egg, it would be nice if there was an alternate end to the quest.

I never took her up on the offer even as a Loth swarn Drow I've done some unspeakable stuff in games I'll admit 😂 but stealing an unborn child and selling it on is a step too far even for me lol I'll take the egg since I'm likely going to murder the entire creche anyway but rather than sell it on I'll just leave it in my inventory or send it to my camp
I dont know how that quest will end, but stealing an egg from people who would destroy it for taking to long to hatch, aint that evil of a thing. The only question is whats better: Giving it to some scolars trying to raise it to be good, or keeping it. Keep in Mind, that you are on a mission through the cursed lands nobody returns from, want to go through a warzone and will turn into a soulless abomination if you are not stopping the Cult controlling a godlike entity.
Spoiler Alert: I got payment from her upfront, and then when I was struggling with the quest, I looked up some help. Turns out, the Society of Brilliance treats the Githyanki that hatches like crap. I, at this point, have just taken her money and never gone back.
Yes it is weird Gith lay eggs.What is weirder is that they can reproduce with humans as well.(though it is the Githzerai who have less of a problem doing it then the githyanki)
Unique tav, allows you to customize your character further than what would be possible, while not fucking up other characters in the game. (custom bodies, scars, makeup ext. This is one of the tattoos in the unique tav tattoo pack listed under optional files I believe. But there's many more to choose from in that folder and on the nexus.
I gave her the Egg as a Gith and as another Race, major difference i would say. Definitely worth giving it to her. ( For Side story) Edit: Not so worth if you want to raise it yourself. I wonder what happens if i romance Lae´zel as a Gith, give her the egg or keep it, free orpheus and rebel against Vlakith. Wonder what happens to the egg.
Finished the Game: Karlach became Mindeflayer Orpheus leads the rebellion against Vlakith Still together with Lae´zel Egg hatched became my/our Son named Xan, lives in a Creche or something to study with the Mages of Xamvadi'm. Got what i expected and hoped for.
its the same with drow, theres an interaction that drow have with her when she says that gith cant overcome their “violent nature” which you can respond “they used to think my people were inherently evil too” and she goes “well yeah we know better now”
They don’t show it a lot in bg3 but in tabletop dnd version they’re basically really strong space alien pirates that conquer planets. Like the Spanish Inquisition but they’re frogs. Thats where most of the racism comes from. That and their genuine discrimination towards anyone who is not Gith (Istik basically is their version of a slur for a foreigner/non-gith)
When you've gone through what the Gith have though, you've earned to right to be so hostile to others. Your entire history before being slaves is lost to time. You only know enslavement and bloody rebellion. Those were your 2 states of being

The irony is that when we go to the creche there is only one egg left that hadn't hatched and the githyanki want the caretaker to smash it anyway because it is being seen as a weakling for taking so long. Society of Brilliance lookin kinda sus. I gave her the owlbear egg and later in Act 3 one of the members told me that she failed. Lae'zel had the gith egg on her and they asked to buy it off her. Blurg and Omeluum are the only reason the society is still around in my playthrough

I mean, if you do sell it, she gets killed by the hatchling in act III anyways.
if you put it in Lae'zel's inventory and leave it there for the rest of the game it will hatch in the epilogue, and she will raise it

Yeah I ended up pickpocketing the gear I wanted from her and then saying “ok you need to die now”. Laezel was quite happy about that :)

How did you get those body tattoos on your char? What's the mod called?
Unique tav, allows you to customize your character further than what would be possible, while not fucking up other characters in the game. (custom bodies, scars, makeup ext. This is one of the tattoos in the unique tav tattoo pack listed under optional files I believe.
But there's many more to choose from in that folder and on the nexus.
If I wasn't playing a Selunite Cleric, I would have told her "Fine, but I want payment up front" and then just never give her the egg.

I gave her the Egg as a Gith and as another Race, major difference i would say. Definitely worth giving it to her. ( For Side story)
Edit: Not so worth if you want to raise it yourself. I wonder what happens if i romance Lae´zel as a Gith, give her the egg or keep it, free orpheus and rebel against Vlakith. Wonder what happens to the egg.
If you keep the egg(not sure if you need high approval) but in the epilogue, Lae’Zel reveals she kept the egg and raised it as her offspring.

Got what i expected and hoped for.
There's a hell of a lot of githyanki racism in this game but to be fair, the githyanki don't do a ton to show me they don't deserve it.
its the same with drow, theres an interaction that drow have with her when she says that gith cant overcome their “violent nature” which you can respond “they used to think my people were inherently evil too” and she goes “well yeah we know better now”
What's worse is if you do go through with it and give her the egg, the githyanki that hatches wipes out the society of brilliance. XD

They don’t show it a lot in bg3 but in tabletop dnd version they’re basically really strong space alien pirates that conquer planets. Like the Spanish Inquisition but they’re frogs. Thats where most of the racism comes from. That and their genuine discrimination towards anyone who is not Gith (Istik basically is their version of a slur for a foreigner/non-gith)
When you've gone through what the Gith have though, you've earned to right to be so hostile to others. Your entire history before being slaves is lost to time. You only know enslavement and bloody rebellion. Those were your 2 states of being
"Save" the child from the "savages" and raise it with "our own better civilized ways".
That sure is a big racism allegory to all the minority children kidnap-adopted into majority families or locked away in abusive boarding schools.

Gith grow fast, by the time we get to BG city it will grow into full adult. Probably that's why he was taking so long to get him out
Gith don't grow that quickly at all. Ptaris is an adult when you meet him because they used magic to accelerate his growth.

It's good writing, the idea of asking 2 giths seems pretty silly but they still need to give out the quest, so she just acts more desperate.

The irony is that when we go to the creche there is only one egg left that hadn't hatched and the githyanki want the caretaker to smash it anyway because it is being seen as a weakling for taking so long.
Stealing the egg (or convincing him to let you take it) is actually the best thing FOR the egg.

Society of Brilliance lookin kinda sus. I gave her the owlbear egg and later in Act 3 one of the members told me that she failed. Lae'zel had the gith egg on her and they asked to buy it off her. Blurg and Omeluum are the only reason the society is still around in my playthrough
i usually give her the owlbear egg and steal it back. if anyone can tell me what actually happens in act 3 if you give her the owlbear egg and actually let her keep it that would be great cuz im never giving it for real

I have a Gith monk character as well and it was very satisfying watching this woman dig her own grave and then go "I am going to enjoy killing you." Xora may be a monk, but she dure as hell will kick your ass if you deserve it.
