Why LEGO TRAINS and TUNNELS are NOT EASY

- In this episode, we embark on my beginner journey to cover the raised platform in our @LEGO City. While the platform has been around for while, it's always been wide open. After investing over 12 hours, facing challenges like trains going off-track, and immersing in the sheer joy of building, I'm thrilled to share this progress with you.

I really like the style of the tunnel and wall, with the dark great rock-work at the bottom, blending into the light grey wall above.

Een tunnel is altijd een mooie toevoeging, ik ben momenteel met V3 van een berg met dubbele tunnel bezig dus loop tegen dezelfde uitdaging aan.
Even wat tips:
- Voor een rechte tunnel wordt vaak minimaal 10 studs breed en 13 bricks hoog aanghouden (vanaf de rails).
- Voor een kersttrein heb je echter al 15 bricks hoog nodig en de nieuwe city vrachttrein is dacht ik nog iets hoger.
- In een bocht heb je echter veel meer ruimte nodig vanwege een neus die uitsteekt en lange wagons die binnen bocht gebruiken. 16 studs is dan niet ongebruikelijk.
- Je kunt met inverse slopes makkelijker/flexibeler van het kritische brede deel naar het smallere gedeelte overgaan.
- ondersteun je rails goed, je hebt wat doorzak problemen.
- doorsnee wordt 2 plates verhoging per 16 studs rails aangehouden om problemen/slijtage te voorkomen.
Je hebt het verloop dan ook nog in de bocht, dat is ver van ideaal en kan inderdaad ontsporen tot gevolg hebben.
Zie ik het goed dat je al een R56 radius van FX bricks gebruikt? (ik zie kleur verschil)
Wow, dank je wel voor alle tips!! Mijn huidige V1 is nog verre van perfect, los van de te snelle verhoging inderdaad zijn er ook wat hoogteverschillen tussen de tafels onder dit gedeelte... Op dit moment rijdt alleen de Metroliner hier, maar ik ben zeker van plan om ook bredere 8-stud treinen te proberen, dus een versie 2 lijkt onvermijdelijk 😄
Qua tracks is het hier een mix van oude grijze en nieuwere blauwe tracks (allemaal originele LEGO), maar de Fx Bricks bredere radius bochten en wissels lonken wel moet ik zeggen! Wellicht ooit nog een upgrade, de combi met kleinere stukjes rails van Fx biedt wel veel nieuwe layout mogelijkheden. Voor nu heb ik nog even genoeg te doen in deze layout 😄
Ik ben erg benieuwd naar jouw layout, vooral naar de derde versie van je berg met dubbele tunnel. Is die ergens online te zien? Het klinkt in ieder geval als een gaaf project!

Thanks so much! Cities do take up a lot of space… But it’s funny how ‘the grass can be greener’ (or something like that haha). The idea of creating a complete diorama one day and maybe even showing it at a LEGO convention sounds like so much fun 😁😁
Could be wise to future proof the tunnels with for other trains that are wider or have longer noses. Anyways: awesome job with the overall design!

Tof dat je de 9v rails gebruikt. Ziet er door t ijzer toch wat realistischer uit. En t scheelt heel veel batterijen haha😅

I wonder how you get so much monorail elgo tracks and the like. Been wanting to get one myself but could never find a decent deal or know where to look
Finding these tracks can indeed be challenging due to their scarcity. My journey started with acquiring the airport shuttle monorail 6399 after my dark ages. I stumbled upon a listing nearby on the Dutch marketplace, Marktplaats. Such items can be a gamble for sellers too, with much interest but fewer genuine buyers. A thoughtful, personal message can make a difference (that’s how I secured mine). Subsequently, I found a few ads for miscellaneous track pieces and hot the space monorail 6991 from eBay in Germany. While corner pieces are relatively common, straight ones are rarer and pricier. Therefore I also chose to have a few 3D printed monorail tracks from 4Dbrix. They’re mostly indistinguishable, though they can appear slightly different at certain angles. They even offer unique pieces LEGO never produced, allowing for more versatile layouts.

I would also like it for my city but they are very expensive for no longer in production ... I preferred to do a part of the metropolitan route that I will make in my videos

Tunnel beetje krap, wat als je een grotere trein wilt laten rijden?
Ruim is anders inderdaad 😅 voorlopig houd ik het bij dit formaat trein, vond de tunnel anders ook net wat te breed worden en de boogonderdelen hadden anders niet zo ingezet kunnen worden. Maar de neus van de trein moet niet veel langer worden, dat gaat waarschijnlijk niet passen inderdaad (hebben we weer wat te doen haha)
@@brickcitymatt ik nijg naar een achtkoppig brede trein. Mijn zwager en ik gaan deze herfst starten met Lego stad.
Wat gaaf!! Dat zijn wel echt de mooiste modellen qua treinen als je het mij vraagt, goede schaal om veel detail in het model te kunnen verwerken. Die schaal maakt het denk ik wel op hetzelfde moment ook lastig om het goed te integreren misschien in een stad; het is zo veel groter dan de rest gelijk (en het liefst zou je ook gelijk grote radius bochten willen zodat ie die goed kan nemen - ziet er anders ook heel grappig uit op een normale r56 bocht haha). Hebben jullie al een idee welk model trein jullie gaan maken? Super veel plezier in ieder geval!
