    ok but "The Times They Are A Changing" is an extremely funny song to play for the acceptance speech of an incumbent

      Not really. The Bartlet administration (in the WW universe) was instrumental in several changes. Election commission reform, first female Chief Justice, the Bartlett Doctrine, an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement, banking reform, an Internet Education Act, a hate crimes bill, several trade agreements, and a patient bill of rights bill (authored by Santos).

    The sentimentality and the slight break in the First Lady’s voice when she tells the President “You’ve got lots of nights” is so heartbreaking yet supportive. Their relationship is as hopeful and idealistic as the fictional West Wing staff that is portrayed throughout the show.
    And the song signifies changes coming for Bartlett and tracks the changes coming his way in the second term more than that of a victory lap for an incumbent.

    What i love about CJ is how much she adores the President! And to think that it all started with Toby paying her a visit and all it took was one question to convince her - Is Jed Bartlet a good man ? And Toby saying yeah with conviction!

    • @Grintor
      @Grintor Před měsícem +4

      Toby does not see the good in people naturally, he is distrusting and looking for the other shoe to drop at all times. Him saying he truly thought Bartlet was good spoke volumes about the man.

    Abby is literally the best person anyone could ask for. She and the presidents relationship is the best depiction of a marriage I have seen on television. No doubt because it contained two fantastic actors; Martin Sheen and Stockard Channing. Just one of many reasons why The West Wing in my opinion is the best show ever made.

      We're currently experiencing one of the most progressive administrations since FDR - huge investments in climate & infrastructure, Billions in student loans forgiven, antitrust actions against major corporations, government forcing lower drug prices, continued protection of the ACA, support for unions. When you get tired of your "centrism" talking points, you should read the news sometime & stop lying about Biden.

    • @HisRyanness
      @HisRyanness Před 9 dny

      Um, I don't want to poop on what you're saying here but Jed Bartlet was very much not a leftist, he was a liberal who believed in free markets with light government intervention. He was an economist before becoming president, and in one episode talked about how it was fine that people were losing their jobs due to some particular industry dying and being replaced by another (I forget the specifics) because the resulting growth would create more jobs than were lost. Truly leftist politics were very unpopular in the US at the time this show was airing, it was very much about the (neo-)liberal fantasy at the time.
