    you are INSANE! I mean that with the utmost respect! I build garage dioramas but mine are more for simple display and don't look this amazing. I really like the idea of using the soda cans. Keep up the amazing work!

    Cheaper too!! Hahaha. Plus you get the satisfaction of knowing YOU built it...not someone else.

  • @ht1type
    @ht1type Před 12 lety

    And you`ve done it well, you`ve also answeared my question without reapproch.
    Alot of hinges I see have a "play" in them which in time makes for a sloppy fit, that & the fact that they aren`t cheap to buy.
    Your method is... Outstanding as I see it. Truth be known my passion is narrow guage trains, many road vehicals are modified to ride the rails, known as high lifts.

    That's right!... if you enjoy building stuff from scratch, you just can not replace that satisfaction from buying stuff. :-)

    I'm glad you like 'em. The hinges are 4x10mm (when open) What do you mean by tolerance? There is almost none tolerance. I cut the pieces to fit perfectly in each other.

    What I used to do as a kid was take threaded rod from a hardware store and hook that up to a motor, then have a wing nut that moves back and forth as the screw turns. I'd put a piece of plastic tubing at the wall above the doors, and the end of the rail would sit there. Then mount the motor, build a linkage to the door, and voila.

    The problem is that with a regular garage door, there is a counterbalance spring to help lift the door, here you're relying on solely the motor to pull it up and down, so the door would need to be structurally well built.

  • @Modeljunkyard

    Now I get it, of course they are good for a rat rod.

    NIce, really excellant. May I ask what is the size of your hinge, length/width? Also what is your tolerance for free movement! This is a great idea for working doors, brilliant!! ;-}

    The biggest problem I had was mounting the screw totally centered on the motor, it would always wobble and shake. I actually think I still have one in the attic, I'll go check. If you want, I can send you the wiring diagram I used to use for them. Push one button to open, push another to close.

    I would not recommend this hinges for cars. Car door hinges are completely different than the hinges I made here. If you want tutorials on how to make hinges for model cars, subscribe to my blog's newsletter and you'll get free ebooks on the subject.
