I do believe Peter's background during that part of Avi's solo was like a tidal wave of sound overflowing Avi.
I suspect Peter produced this with Avi because Avi was so unbelievably famous during his time with PTX.
I think it is widely known that Soctt was even jealous of Avi and his extreme popularity and the love the fans had for Avi.
Avi often received some really great solo time with PTX because Ben Bram, who has arranged many pieces for PTX held a great love for Avi's voice. It was Ben whom Scott called when he was down to the wire of needing a bass for the sing offs.
Ben and Avi knew each other and Ben told Scott he should call Avi, which Scott did. (Avi has just been offered the basso Profundo position with the L.A Opera House the day before, him majoring in opera was not to be an opera singer. i was to learn the best methods to sing correctly in any genera.
To this day, Ben and Avi are close. Avi was the brain child of a current group "A Capella Academy".
Avi, Ben and Rob Deitz run the academy which involves youth, ages 12 to 18 from all over the world.
The three men interview young singers from all over the world via zoom. When the best of the best are chosen, a few will be from very poor countries who cannot afford the fees, so Avi comes on line every year and takes requests from viewers to
sing the callers favorite song. His father always requests "Wayfaring Stranger". This is the time they are able to raise funds to take care of those chosen who have no money.
Below is the first Academy Choir singing an original composition of Avi's.

There is so much more to Avi than meets the eye.

Avi's bass is butter melting on a warm biscuit. 😊 His higher notes are beautiful, but for me it's his lower notes.🤗☺️😍

Im a real fan of Avi Kaplans voice. One of the most beautiful of anyone singing today imo. His full album has some glorious examples of his range and songwriting abilities.

What a great reaction with all the musical breakdown. It doesn't matter what genre of music, or what vocal range Avi sings - it's so rich and full of Soul!! Peter & Avi of sang a beautiful duet & harmonizing, & yes it was pure enjoyment. I agree with you, Avi has a lovely, soft tone to his voice here. Thank you for reacting and not getting over my head with too much technically, good info. 😄

I’m one of those common people who neither sing nor play an instruments but I enjoy your reactions as they are not too technical for me to learn a little. This is such a beautiful version of the old song. Love your comments on Avi’s incredible voice - if you’d like to hear more of his own music, I recommend “Otherside” and “Uncanny valley”.

I've listened to this song more times than I can remember. It caught the exact mix of longing, hope and the implied feeling of having done something really stupid (that prompted someone to write this piece in the first place) that I needed in order to anchor me while writing several passages of my first novel.

I am, above all else, an Old Folkie. This speaks, softly and gently, to my Old Folkie's ear . . . and heart. It's what I wish Folk Music had more of. It tends to be a little sharper to the ear. Just me being picky, picky, picky.

I truly love your reaction thank you, I agree with the other comments you made it easy for the untrained to fully understand and appreciate this.
Avi always takes time for the Academy and has stated how proud he is of it, he’s one of the dad’s the children love him. 🫶🏼💜

This is fabulous. I still want to put it on repeat to sing me to sleep. If you would like to hear some more from Peter, I recommend his duets with Tim Foust on Misty Mountains and Sound of Silence or his collaboration with Home Free on Amazing Grace. Avi's solo work is also great. I recommend Change on the Rise or his very recent Feel Alright, which is a totally different vibe. First time at your channel and I enjoyed the insights.

I would also highly suggest Peter & Tim's version of "Greensleeves" It has an exceptionally beautiful medieval tone to it. Peter does lots of lovely music, but I especially love the way he does these very old songs. Usually a very light weight on these lovely songs.
BTW, I love your suggestion on how you 'see' this song as sung by them (the beach and fire). I see it as a bard singing his most beautiful tone for the royal head. Even without instrumentation, I can imagine a softly played lute, mostly from just how gorgeous the harmonies paint the air.

I used to watch PTX when Avi was a member, not so much since. Avi has a beautiful voice. Gentle, like Geoff's. I think Peter is a little too loud in this, it overpowers the sweetness of Avi, in my opinion. The balance is a bit off for my taste.
