Rode it. First public train followed by a radio station interview. When I heard it was going to open for a few days, I stopped there on my way to my boyfriend. The launch was just out of this world and totally made up for the rest of the ride. ♥️

They could have added a barrelroll instead of straight track to make the layout somewhat more interesting. Seeing a rollercoaster car do a twist right over your head is more exciting and it would have hardly taken up more space. Oh and use a magnetic launch and maybe not be corrupt of course.

If my memory serves me, When F1 raced at the Nurburgring in the 70s they ran on the Nordschleife, or "Northern loop", exclusively. The Nurburgring GP circuit, which is what F1 uses today, was built years after Lauda's crash in '76. They no longer race on the Nordschleife in Formula 1, although there are plenty of racing series which run the full circuit (the GP circuit as well as the Nordschleife), including a 24 hour event which happens annually.
The Nordschleife is the part of the course people bring their cars to for a "track day", where they can drive at their own pace (and risk) around the circuit. There also used to be a Sudschleife (Southern loop) as part of the track, which has since been closed off from the circuit entirely and is now public roads.
I'm kind of a big motorsports fan lol like you said, pretty much any fan of auto racing knows about the Nurburgring. Insane that they built a roller coaster there.

Screw this ride for a comment. I was brought up on an amusement/theme park and without the inventions of Stan Checketts, the 21st Century would have been pretty dull and wooden. Thank you for telling us about his passing Expedition Theme Park, I wouldn't have known otherwise. That piece you put at the end was really classy, and beautifully done. A fitting tribute to the man. I don't think it would be an abuse of timing for you to make a full story of his life. I'm sure all of your subscribers would like a bigger story on a man that was bigger than life. Lump in the throat. RIP Stan Checketts (1941-2022) Launch to wherever you want to go now Sir.

As a somewhat regular visitor to the 'ring, I can confirm, that coaster has never worked in the last 9 years. The whole building is like an abandoned shopping mall, there is a tattoo studio, two shops that sell helmets and fireproof gloves, a buffet, another buffet, and... nothing else. I looks shoddily thrown together - bare concrete, no waterproofing, no toplayer; the concrete (as you would expect with unprotected stuff) already started spalling, you see rebar rusting here and there. It will need a restoration in another 15 years or be torn down.
At least the roof isn't leaking too bad, so when the floods hit the region, the building was used as a storage depot for the donations.

Though I will admit that Rush didn’t a good job in depicting Niki Lauda and James Hunt’s relationship (they focused too on putting them against each other for my taste instead of being good friends and friendly rivals on the track) among many things, it might be the reason why I will skip out on it.

I was om the last ride ever of Ring Racer. What a great look at the interesting history of this ride. I consider myself really lucky to have rode it, having 4 rides on the last day of operation. The launch was absolutely incredible, the turnaround was okey, and the long way back a bit dule, but the unbanked turn just before the breakrun was fun. I was on the last ride of the day and when leaving the park we joked about that we would have the last ride ever if it never opened again. Sadly, that joke turned out to be true.

As a German I have been following the odyssey surrounding the Nürburgring all my life.
The problem is that the race track started caring more about entertainment around racing, instead of sticking with its unique flair. Nobody really gave a shit about the rollercoaster. Either you visit the place because you care about cars, or you are not visiting at all.
Rollercoasters belong into theme parks, not next to race tracks.

one correction for the history of the Nürburgring.
It was not build to stop street racing as the main goal, it was build specifically in this area because it was an underdeveloped rural area with barely any work available.
Building the ring first gave them many years of work just for construction and then also allowed other business opportunities once the ring was operational.

Neat video. I've always thought it would be neat to visit the Nuremberg ring. One day maybe. Sad that the execution of this coaster was so awfully done. Even if it had worked as intended boring layout with nothing to offer, they had a chance to do something world breaking and it fell flat on it's face

Ive seen this track around the ring during my visit there few years back, and I was completely clueless back then so I thought maybe its an attraction that was suppose to open... Not an attraction that never was open. With that been said, it can be possible to open it if they add few turns here and there but ultimately it would never open just because it doesn't offer as much as a regular coaster and also the fact that it is placed at an odd area where there shouldn't even be coasters imo.
However, if they ever open an amusement park in areas that the ring is surrounding, that could be really really cool and it would attract WAY more people than the Nurburgring already is doing. You can't be truly racing kind of guy without ever hearing about this infamous track. But if you put more attractions that potentially other type of people can enjoy they could really benefit from the situation.

If they got someone else to redo the launch, and perhaps altered a piece of the straight area inside to a double twisting line of inversions it'd be a huge improvement already. Whether or not the cost would ever be worth it is questionable. Forget trying to go any faster though, if it can reach 100mph as long as it can still easily circulate people would ride it. Especially with it's now infamous history

The Nurburgring is still not out of the woods in regards to financial difficulties as far as I’m aware. The only reason it hosted a race in 2020 was due to the need to schedule as many races as possible for the championship, and the track paid either a very small, or none at all, fee to F1 in order to host the race. This was originally why the race alternating between the Nurburgring and Hockenheimring was initially introduced, to help mitigate costs on both parties. However, the title of German Grand Prix could not be given to the 2020 race (I believe due to contractual reasons), and so it hosted the one-off (at this point) Eifel Grand Prix.

I didn't know about those inicidents while testing. I had always in mind that one of the main reasons of closing it was about a supposed "air pressure" difference when entering the building shown 10:31 in the video giving problems to the people riding it as i've been told by local people

I know it's very nitpicky but one thing I need to clarify: "The Nürburgring is a race circuit located located near to the town of Nürburg".
I've heared that so many times from English native speakers and it is just wrong. The "Nürburg" is a medieval castle and the Nordschleife goes around it. There is a very, very small village called "Nürburg" as well but it's mainly named after the castle als "Burg" means "castle".
The city shown here at 1:15 is Nuremberg or "Nürnberg" which is in Bavaria, a good 3 hours away from the Nürburgring. Most English natives confure Nürburg and Nürnberg because they pronuounce -berg and -burg the same but it's not the same.

Actually, the Nordschleiffe or "the green hell" is a part of the nurburgring and yes, they don't drive on that part anymore since that crash but the last time they drove on the GT lay-out next to where the Ringracer is located.
But anyways, as always a good video
Edit: They still drive on the nordschleiffe but that is mostly track days for ppl that want to bring their car or the DTM series so as far i know

    • @wrc5557
      @wrc5557 Před 2 lety +1

I was going to say the same thing actually ! The contemporary F1 races such as European and German GP's shown at the start of the video take place at the modern nurburgring track which is next to the old Nordschleiffe circuit
      - while the tracks can be joined up for some other race series, (like GT and touring cars) F1 uses the modern track which is a much more typical race circuit , as the old one is just to long to safely marshal and is impractical to cover on TV due to the number of camera points that would be needed. The spectating crowd would also be short changed with the old track as there would be significantly fewer laps in a race with a circuit that length!
Great video though as ever, keep up the good work!

I don't know if you take suggestions but I would love to see you do a video on Idora Park that close in 1984 due to a fire of there main roller coaster The Wildcat... The park use to be located in Youngstown Ohio in the USA (only put the whole thing because I know you do videos for all over the world)... Hope to see you use this suggestion, thanks for taking the time to read this to all who read it.
