  • "As through the ignorance of the real nature of the rope, the very rope appears in an instant as a snake, so also does pure Consciousness appear in the form of the phenomenal Universe without undergoing any change." ~ Sri Adi Shankaracharya
This video is a humble attempt to explain about the illusory nature of waking, dreaming, and deep sleep states of Consciousness, based on the teachings of Sri Adi Shankaracharya, an ancient master of Advaita (Non-duality).
The following explanation is given in the last part of this video, and it is also shared here for the benefit of the reader:
[ Can anyone experience this Universe outside of Consciousness?
No experience is possible without Consciousness.
Therefore this Universe does not exist outside! All these names and forms are Consciousness only!
Wherever you may be in life, your suffering can be certainly reduced if you choose to see this Universe and its drama only as a temporary dream happening in your Consciousness.
Your life will be filled with bliss if you choose to see all these names and forms as your own manifestations, whether they are good or bad.
Develop this habit and experience it yourself ! ]

I noticed my dreams feel just as real as my waking state. What is the only common element to both? My awareness or presence. Neither states are real, only my awareness of being is real. So, I have focused my attention on awareness. I noticed in time that while I continue to have dreams, I am as aware in my dreams as I am in the waking state. I believe becoming established in awareness is the highest purpose of taking a human birth. Of course, there is your karma which is necessary and unavoidable, but the best we can do with that is to cheerfully accept what happens. Life is temporary, but awareness of being is unending. If your current life karma is to have all your dreams come through, you will in future lives have to deal with overcoming attachment to life. If your current karma is less than satisfactory, you must deal with feelings of aversion, as well. The only path that bears fruit is to renounce attachment and aversion to become content with awareness of being. It is the source of all virtues. Nothing else is real or lasting. The sooner you accept these truths, the sooner your suffering will end. I need this reminder to my self every day.

Even while you are in deep sleep during that moment you aren't aware of yourself...but when you wake up u remember that u had a perfect sleep ..which implies there was an awareness even when ur mind ceased to function in deep sleep...and the same logic applies to death as well ..
The aim of spirituality is to be fully conscious even in deep sleep and this state is known as sleepless sleep or turiya...this is the moment of self realisation..
So the whole point of spirituality is to be fully established in pure awareness while u transit from wakefulness to sleep or from life to death ,it essentially means the same..

@@vireshbhan5933 - only once did I experience going through a tunnel as awareness from the dream state back into by body. My body jerked on impact. I never lost awareness of being. I guess this is why constant meditation on awareness takes many years. You have to transcend the thinking mind and be in thoughtless awareness to be in sleepless sleep. I wish it was more of a simple request than sustained effort.

These are just the plays/distractions happening on the screen of your consciousness. When you have come to the realisation that you are not your mind, you are not your body, what you experience is only bliss because you realise that this body is temporary and there is something beyond it which is so blissful, infinite and godly.

    This Channel Is great.
There Is One thing i have learned, and i want to share It with you:
When we are dreaming we never turn to ourself, we are so taken from the images of the Dream that we never check Who Is dreaming and we never put our attenction to the Self, so we don't wake up. Same in the so called waking state, if you give to much attenction to the Dream, you Lost counsciusness of the Self, the mind goes away from the Self, so maditation Is to forget the Dream of the world and to put your attenction on the Self , the ever present I AM , when you do this you realize that your Self Is very good, the mind then begins to like the Self and to become One with It again , so you are free from coming and going plesure and pain, and you can find your happines in the Self as ever deeper Bliss and peace , until the mind Is complitly absorbed into the Self and becomes One with It,
So turn to the Self alone in maditation, give up plesure and pain never ending trap and realize the inner Bliss of your true Self, be free! Be strong and control the mind! Then unite the mind to the Self.

I think this life is all about recognising what's important and what's not. Growing up i thought my parents love and acceptance was important, which i guess it was at the time, but as i left the nest and found my way in the world i realized they were holding me back more than helping me, so i had to cut them free. Also childhood friends who remembered me a certain way wouldn't allow me to grow so again i had to cut them free. Then i thought i needed a relationship with a woman to replace the loves i lost because i didn't love myself. When i finally allowed myself to love and accept myself i no longer needed the love of a woman. Now i am free to be me and i see any new relationship for what it is, i can stay above their desires to manipulate and control me. I know this reality appears 'real' just like my deep dreams do, i know i can fall asleep and dream within dreams so i realize this is also a dream and that the me who's dreaming this reality is probably dreaming that reality also, so there is no use waking from this dream if i'm unable to wake from the one after it as that reality may be much worse than this one that i'm managing just fine.

I only can experience high levels of counscious when I get a clear flash of perfect vision without my prescritption glasses. In that state of mind there is no "myself" as a personality, its just something beyond me, flowing and expressing through me. Unfortunately its not always that happens, but when it happens it feels like I was just thinking I was living, in another words, it feels that I was living a lie or a history I tell to myself.

Being the "one" is very lonely, this walking state was designed for our spiritual being to experience companionship and compassion ,and able to hold the ones we love. The very first thing this one created, was a family. Their are more then just the One as well. These one's desire evil intentions and are the cause of all suffering in this walking state. Fix it.

I am sincerely trying to understand this, since I know the truth is here. In one level I understand but in another level I get confused.
Therefore, I just practice Shambhavi Mahamudhra daily for 30 mins (combination of asanas, mantra chanting, pranayam and dhyanam), which addresses the root of karma that will help having a pleasant life and also assist after we dropping the body. Practice helps in generating Ojas through which above is takecare of.
This is my Guru's insights and I just work on it. Eternally greatful for my Guru🙏🏽
