She sold some jwellery to complete my studies. I made it. I got jobs just after my Masters completed. But that was so less for us to survive. We struggled for straight 6 years. Then I at the age of 25 I got my first Government Service as an Officer in Health Department because I'm professionally a Hospital Administrator. But my mom and me was completely alone, torn, lost, poorer than poor in those 6 years whereas at the time of my father we were actually from upper middle class families. We will never forget those 6-7 years of tremendous struggle, trust issues.. I really really can relate to her. 😢💔

I can totally relate to her.. I never got anything unconditionally from childhood. Once I used to be a NEET aspirant, I couldn't fulfil their conditions and they wouldn't let me drop or provide me with guidance to keep preparing, so I eventually succumbed to the situation and I made myself academically strong in somewhere else. But I didn't get a single thing from them inspite of having achievements in my current field. I just don't have the energy nowadays to show them my achievements and ask for something. I make a very little amount from giving tuitions and I buy myself whatever I need. Years of verbal abuse(yes it exists, getting sl*t shamed from biological father hits hard) and trauma totally changes a person. My boyfriend who has been there since past 6 yrs , whenever tries to gift me something unconditionally , I always have this thing in my mind that I need to pay him back. We get into arguments for my behavior, I totally understand how he feels. But I can't help myself now.
You should not feel bad about receiving gifts or help from your bf, be happy you totally deserve it, and it is not even his fault, why should he suffer! Infact it is a relief to find a nice partner so that atleast second part of your life can be better than the first part … just make sure he s not making you feel small while giving the gifts

Oh God yes. Taking an Educational loan was a big mental baggage for me. The scarcity mindset at home combined with the reality of money around me always made me very scared of taking/ borrowing it from anyone.

My biological father always gave me but it was a carrot and stick situation. I will give you this IF you do this etc. And for the last 20 years I have been listening to how how much they did for me( spent on my education basically which every Indian parent does- siem less some more) I wanted to go abroad when I was in my late 20’s and my father said I have done all I had to do now you’re on your own. And then a year later went and invested in a property for almost twice the amount. I honestly use to wish bank would give student loans and I would’ve had to repay them after about 5 years indebted if listening to my families BS. But back in the day banks went lending( mid 90’s - early 2000s ) without a guaranter and my dad refused to be a guaranter.

The rationing in his mind I think was that he has been diabetic since his late 30’s and he made me a doctor so I guess he wanted me to stay back and look after him. Meanwhile I became asthmatic in the town I studied medicine in so for me it was important to escape India’s dust and pollution as I knew what lay ahead for me. Now I do take care of him( he’s 80 and has heart disease also) and hile I barely manage my own health sometimes but he doesn’t give a damn. Parents can be very selfish.
In the west where you wanted to go and study, parents don’t pay for their own kid’s education but can spend thousand of dollars on vacations. Your parents are still better off. Some of the parents here dnt help with anything. They wont give property or anything to their kids they will sell it all live in retirement. Cherish what you got, grudge will not let you have piece of mind, think that it was gods plan destined this way
Parents are selfish and we don't recognise that until it's too late. But the irony is no matter how our parents are we have to take care of them. Or maybe that comes from the way they groomed us.

Some of the parents here dnt help with anything. They wont give property or anything to their kids they will sell it all live in retirement. Cherish what you got, grudge will not let you have piece of mind, think that it was gods plan destined this way
Parents are selfish and we don't recognise that until it's too late. But the irony is no matter how our parents are we have to take care of them. Or maybe that comes from the way they groomed us.
That is so me.. I can never ask anything from someone n if they are giving willingly... I always try to overcompensate... Whether I like it or not....
