One thing I liked about Rue and this scene was she immediately understood what was happening. Usually in TV shows the characters won’t connect the dots until later even though the audience knows exactly what’s happening. Lol I don’t know if I made any sense but I just liked how she immediately knew something was up

@Cloudiily I think Jules is pretty in tune with her sexuality but her issue is with Rue depending on her to be better. I think she feels pressured being responsible for somebody's well being (I totally understand her and don't blame her for stressing about it but her methods of coping was not the best that affected Rue a lot but I'm sure she didn't mean to hurt her).
In a way, she's selfish but so are the rest of the people (nobody's fully selfless, not even Lexi.. I think.. idk, we don't really know much about her except that she's a fucking saint). I believe she cares for Rue and feels for her but not as much as Rue does for her.
I'm excited to see her and Rue's growth but I can't help but root for Rue and Lexi and I know people are gonna come for me telling me I'm transphobic because I like Rexi more but honestly, it's just because I'm a sucker for a good pining friends to lovers trope where one of them is completely oblivious and a total dork (Rue) while the other is hopelessly in love and would do anything for them (Lexi). I did ship Rules in the first 2 episodes, maybe even up until episode 4 but I got thrown off when I realized that Jules may have been using Rue (unconsciously) for emotional comfort after the whole Tyler debacle (it was suspicious how quickly they got together after that).

I love this scene! This is what being manic does to you! It might be funny to an outsider watching but dude, you become very obsessive. I remember I went on a cleaning spree, I was legit scrubbing the damn bathtub and tile floor. But then the lows hit, the high you were experiencing fades. The depression hits and nothing can literally get you out of bed.
Update: 2.2k of you just reminded me that I’m not the only one fighting these demons and I never will be. Since I posted the original comment (over a month ago) the “lows” have hit me hard. Another summer of my life done and gone... Anyway we’re strong and we got this. Thank you ♥️

Alex A the portrayal of a manic episode was spot on and then the depression just wow. I suffer from it, I have friends who do as well and it was extremely accurate. The writers did an incredible job. I remember when I was manic I suddenly started straightening my hair at two in the morning for an hour looking at myself in the mirror like a crazy person.
My floor never shines as much as it does when I'm manic

I love this scene! Rue is so intuitive and observant, she can sense and see things going on around her that most people would ignore. Maybe that’s what makes her a great narrator too, because she knows so much about everyone’s business 😂 Also, I like Rue and Lexi more than Rue and Jules. Their relationship just seems healthier, and we know Jules doesn’t romantically love Rue (just as a friend).

This, and the scene where she's talking to her drug dealer is the most realistic manic episode I've ever seen put to TV or film. Despite the fact that she got like 99% right while when I get manic paranoia I'm mostly delusional af, I appreciate the writers not using mental illness as a tool for just drama. I appreciate the actual representation as apposed to exploitation!!✊✊

I laugh at this scene every time I see it but I love how she portrays the whole manic/mania part of bipolar disorder. Not only the obsessive part of it but the clear over confidence. The 'Mom I'm a f*cking genius' line sums it up nicely. She's so confident in herself and her judgments that even her mother who has no clue of all the shit going on needs to know that she figured out exactly what went down.

That's what a manic episode is. Being focused on something so much you're becoming crazy, you start mixing reality with fiction and imagination. An example during the clip is that she thought she was morgan freeman also when she called rue at 2 am bc she finally connected the dots it showed how obsessed she was abt this case and later on the episode, (we don't show it on the video) when she went to visit Fez, she started saying all her nonsense and theories to him also telling him her crazy ideas because she was so into this case she didn't know when to stop. During a manic episode like I said you just start to get so focused on the issue having too many thoughts, you can't even stop. It's like your mind was controlling you and your body. You don't sleep or sleep for a short amount of time, don't take care of yourself enough but you don't even realize how bad it is (like rue said it's 2 am but she was not fckin tired, she was only drinking an enormous amount of caffeine and i guess spent all her week like that searching for clues). People also tend to forget that it doesn't happen only during a span of fewer than 10 hours or idk a day it can go on for a week or two before the shock and realization comes suddenly inside the person's mind to just see what they've done. during a manic episode you tend to mix what is fiction and the reality for them, their imagination is just a matter of fact like 1+1=2 and they realize how unreal their thoughts are only after.
The way this is shot makes this even better, the stylistic choices are so amazing.
