    Also, one thing I found when driving in Austin, especially now that it gets dark earlier in the day, is that the lighting is very dim or non-existent on lamp posts on the highways (Interstates) and streets. Maybe, that could explain all the car accidents. In addition, there are many cold, cloudy and rainy days during the fall time. I was so surprised about this. But just like she mention there are only 4-6 weeks of heavenly days. The rest of the time the climate is a challenge but winter is nothing like the North East where I am from and I really appreciate that more than all the hot days put together. During the hot summer, start your day super early like 6am... There are major supermarkets open at that time.

      Yeah the winters are pretty mild, it they can be wet. Thanksgiving is usually our dreary and rainy season. I didn’t realize the roads here were dimly lit. We do have a lot of accidents in Texas. In my past life I managed injury and fatality claims for auto accidents. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of job security in that industry.

      @@AustinTexasLiving thank you for clarifying about the accident rate here. Wishing you a nice Holiday season and may you have another successful 2023! Keep up the great job on your channel! As an American who loves guns and if u felt that disgusted with a person just bc they’re excersizing their right, u should have kept it to yourself. If a gun makes u ? Someone’s sanity then it may just be you.

      I love this comment! Just earlier today I said to my partner as we're researching our different options of where to move: "It sounds like you want to live in the 1980s, hun". LOL Everywhere is going down hill. It's very sad. I lived in Northern California through the 80s and 90s and it was awesome and I feel so blessed to have grown up there in the beautiful nature. But post 9-11 was a huge turning point for everywhere in my opinion.

      @@themormonblacksheep I was born near the end of the 80s so I didn't really experience that decade too much, but I think it would be cool to move to somewhere with the same energy. Out of curiosity, did you pick out a place to move to?

    This is a great update to the pros and cons of Austin. Thanks Tiffany. We have been watching your videos for the past year or so while we have been working through the process of getting our visa to come over from the UK. They have given us so much great information! The good news is that we now have our visa and will be moving over in February! We're renting initially but will definitely be in touch when we're ready to buy. Keep up the great work!

    I live in the Midwest now and when people say it’s not friendly it’s because it can be very cliquish and a lot that move here say it’s hard to make genuine friends . It can also be very stagnant here . They have a lot of old school ways and it can be hard to find your place .

    • @AustinTexasLiving
      @AustinTexasLiving  Před rokem

      I think that can be the case anywhere. Being part of a community with shared interests really helps - like a runner's club, a hiking group, a muay thai gym... those things foster community and relationships. And... you do have to try and out yourself out there!

      I have experienced this. I could not believe how cold the women are here near Houston. I pity them because it's like they are in an arrested develop of Jr. High mentality like mean girls. I sit and watch it and proverbial eat popcorn. I'm a free loving spirit from Northern Californian (not LA or Hollywood or Silicon Valley, so please don't confuse us), and I'm excited to get out of Houston and over to Austin for the nature. Houston has zero nature other than the beach which I got to twice a week b/c Houston is a concrete jungle and killing my soul.
      I lived in NC for the last decade and I have to say if anyone wants a really nice experience and build deep friendships then NC is the place (minus the angry New Yorkers, although they ARE hilariously blunt and fun to watch). I was accepted easily and made buttloads of friends. I will probably move back eventually b/c NC or TN are the most beautiful states in our nation other than CA which tops the charts hands down.

    Been in Austin since 2002.
    Went to look at houses with my wife yesterday. We gladly went back to our apartment after that. Don’t have $3600+ to live in a house here. May eventually move out of state.

    I think the ASAT region (Austin-San Antonio) is booming in large part to the appeal of the Texas Hill Country.

    Texas has the most guns in terms of raw numbers. If you look up household ownership rates, I've seen estimates from 35-45%. I tell old friends I live in TX and they think it's a gun-crazy state and I have never felt that at all in 3 years of being here.

    • @AustinTexasLiving
      @AustinTexasLiving  Před rokem

      I mean, TX is pretty big. With lots of people. So it makes sense we have the most guns in raw numbers. And it would'nt surprise me that so many households own guns. I;m not anti-gun, I just don't think they belong in public.
