    He asked like all of the questions i would have asked paul. That said, I couldn't help but get distracted by the band in the background. They were tearing it up.

    It's still hard to believe that Paul is involved in such a monstrous band. Hell all the guys don't look like they belong in the band but here they are kicking ass. I explain the band to my coworkers an d they think of the typical metal heads, but the second I show them BTBAM's pics and their attitudes change completely.
    It's just cool to have a unique band like them.

    Agree completely. I typically introduce the band by playing a short clip. Then explain how Tommy can mimic Freddy Mercury on the fly. Or how Blake masterfully composes his drum charts. (Percussion is my primary study) Then if they're still intrigued I play the "It's Raining" section of backwards marathon.
    By then they're pretty stoked.

    But that's the thing, singers will ALWAYS be compared to the greats of the previous generation. I'm not sizing them up saying one is better than the other but explaining the fact that Tommy has Freddie's range. It's an honored to be compared to a person that inspired you. But you still have the respect to know that you will NEVER replace them.

    Not necessarily... Some people do learn by ear/practice.

  • @theat001
    @theat001 Před 11 lety

    Yeah but that way you miss the awesomeness that is the entirety of Colors. I've tried to start them with Colors...I suppose that was a mistake, as it is a huge step to take if you want to try to get into it from music that isn't heavy...but still. Foamborn A should at least have clued them in that it wasn't ALL screaming...
    I started with Breathe In Breathe Out and some of the singing parts and had a little bit better results but they still won't listen if they hear a sign of screaming.

    Which is so rare. Usually its uninformed people who end up making themselves look like jerks.

  • @theat001
    @theat001 Před 11 lety

    I still get the whole typecast of "you like metal". Which isn't necessarily true. I do like metal, but I like a variety of styles of music, and this band encompasses that ideology really. (any music can be good if enough thought and time is put into it)
    I've tried showing these guys to a few people and they hear screaming and instantly dismiss it. Their loss I guess. I dunno how Lady Gaga can stay fulfilling, but whatever.

    It's not about the audience. The promotors, venues, and the bands themselves dictate set times.

    Tommy is a great singer but you just compared him to the greatest rock singer of all time man.

  • @walshy213
    @walshy213 Před 11 lety

    Again, Tommy is a good singer, but he doesn't have Freddy's range, not even close.
