- I stumbled upon an incredible travel hack that has completely CHANGED the way I book hotels. If you are looking for a travel hack to save you money, budget your trip, and afford more travel- look no further than THIS video!

The most expensive part of travel is usually the accommodations/hotels. For a small little furnished box, they can easily run you $200 a night. When I wanted to take a trip to Hawaii recently, all of the hotels were $400+ a night and it was just ABSURD! So, I found these mystery deals on hotwire.com- but was determined that there MUST be a way to figure out the hotel before booking... it turns out there is- and it's pretty easy. In todays video I tested out this hack a few times, proved it to be true, and ultimately saved over $1,800 on my trip.
A written explanation of the hack:
1. Find the hotwire mystery deal of the day
2. Assess the ratings of the deal of the day and ANY other details they give you. Such as location, daily resort fee, number of reviews. Sometimes they give you more details than others.
3. Find the other hotels listed on the website for the same rating number, then match it up to the mystery hotel. For this, you will need to go to the reviews of each hotel and compare the condition, service, cleanliness, etc. ALL OF THESE MUST MATCH UP EXACTLY TO THE MYSTERY HOTEL. Once you find the hotel that matches these reviews and is in the same location- you've found the mystery hotel!
4. Do an internet wide search for room rates of the hotel, just to MAKE SURE you are getting the lowest possible rate.
5. Book the hotel, be amazest it actually works, and enjoy your trip! :)

I’ve used this exact method, traveling for over 2 years non stop. This might have worked in her single use, but for example when I used this is vegas I ended up with a lower class hotel each and every time unfortunately and it wasn’t worth the price.

@@smiley8106 basically at the end you get hit with a hidden resort fee, and you’re basically paying more than what you were told.
This definitely works. I've done this a few times because I'm never going to pay full price. Most rates are inflated for hotels and you can usually get great deals like this or by finding last minute deals. Thanks for sharing!
This still works! Was skeptical because it took so long to find (on cellphone) you can even go to filter and select the hotel star rating and review rating to narrow it down. Also under filters you can select the area, some of the review items aren’t as easy to spot as in the video, but once you find one that’s super close just look at the original price on the hot deals to compare and see if it matches then the mile distance.
This video was so helpful! I paused it to make my bookings and saved $48. Every $1 matters when it comes to travel so it was worth it. Thank you!

Hi Monica, thank you for the advice. I'm a single dad of two HS seniors both graduating this June. They have both applied to the US Air Force Academy. If they get in they'll be leaving for basic training in June and for the most part, I won't see them much for the next 8- years between their school and active duty. We are traveling March 20 returning March 26 during their HS Spring Break. What makes this trip so special is my entire family is traveling to Washington D.C. to support my sister who is competing in a national competition in the federal circuit court for law school. My dad is getting old and my time with my sons it's running out. I want to make as many 3-generation memories as possible. My grandparents took my sister and me on a cross country trip when I was 13 where DC was one of the highlights of the trip. With the boys potentially going to the Air Force Academy I thought what a great experience for them to see DC and get a deeper sense of who we are as a country. Take a screenshot of the example photo of the room, then crop it so there’s no text, then use image search and bam you found the hotel with less research. You can double check the ratings to be certain. I’ve done this a few times and works like a charm! Hope this helps.
Not all the mystery deals provide sample photos of the room. I was just looking at one that had no photo of the hotel or room

Paused your video 3 minutes in and immediately booked a hotel for a Duluth, Minnesota (1 hour away from me, went to college there and it's on gorgeous Lake Superior). We had to cancel our big summer trip because of covid, so we're just taking the kids up North for a little getaway. This completely works. we're getting a great waterfront Hotel for $60 bucks per night... thank you! And thank you for teaching this GenXer some new tricks!
I just did what this video described and saved over $1530 on my reservation at the Waldorf in Maui!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for the tip it was awesome and I’ll do it all the time now. You can actually fine tune it for where you wanna stay. For me it wasn’t a random place I was able to filter it to basically the property I wanted!!!!!! Sick!

My goal for hotel, airline, and rental car hacks was to get the employee rate. That's always under $100 per night. I'm still working that angle. I always thought the Hotwire Deals were time sensitive. Meaning the deal will expire from your screen in 3 mins. It seems it would take some time to check on the ratings of all of those properties if it's a major city like San Francisco or Miami. The giveaway at the end of the video was really cool! It's always nice to give back!!

The ratings don't absolutely match anymore, but you can still narrow it down if it shows "Your Hot Rate hotel is guaranteed to be 1 of these 3" and keep refreshing your browser to see which one shows up consistently. I just booked the Ritz-Carlton for almost half the price! Thank you so much for this!!

FRIENDLY TIP
It usually shows you one photo of the room you’re about to book so instead of matching the ratings, I just look at photos and see if the carpets in the photos match to the one it gives me!

And an even quicker way to identify the hotel (without all that customer feedback analysis comparison) is to refresh your browser after you've clicked on deal of the day and select the box that states the hotel is one of two (or three) hotels. Keep refreshing your browser and looking at the hotels, one of which remains and the other one (or two) changes, so the hotel you are being offered is the hotel that's always in the selection of two. @@LilBogota Hi Legend. It looks like they have changed their website now so it makes it impossible to find out what hotel they are actually trying to sell you. When this video came out and when i posted the comment 5 months ago, you used to get a window open which gave a selection of two or three hotels, one of which was the hotel in question. You could then rotate through the hotels by refreshing your browser and using a process of elimination, you could work out which hotel it was because it would always be in the list. It seems they have removed that function. They have even removed the address and now you cant even do address comparisons. There are the customer feedback guest ratings at the bottom of the page still. This may still work if you are prepared to review all the hotels in the geographic area they refer to. So my additional hack doesn't work and you are forced to seek out ratings comparisons like the original poster of the video. Hope this helps. Ray and Sue's Travel Channel.

Dang surprised you weren't doing this before. I've been doing this for years lol. Using Hotwire and matching the review ratings. I think the first one I figured this out with was back in 2011 when I booked a Hilton on the beach in Florida for $100 per night 😂

It's my first big trip/time to Europe and the first time travelling solo for more than a day. Thanks! I gave it a look. The number of reviews is also a good way to find the exact hotel.
EXTRA TIP: Before even reviewing the ratings, if you compare the star level on the Hot deal and the hotels you narrowed down, that knocks a few more off the list you have to check ratings on. This works for Priceline too! Done this for years and never book hotels any other way.

This helped me save a lot of money. I knew what the hotel room looked like from the last time I stayed at the hotel I wanted so I was easily able to identify the hotel from pics. Got the exact hotel I knew I wanted for super cheap on the app & even found a discount code.
Priceline does a similar thing....I've figured out what hotels as well.
October 2022 - The ratings don't match anymore or are close but not match exactly. But you can take a look at the 3 options in "Your Hot Rate hotel is guaranteed to be 1 of these 3". Then you refresh the page multiple times, the hotel option that stays the same is the "actual" hotel you will get in that deal. The other two options will change to a different hotel each time you refresh.

I used a similar strategy on Priceline after the housing crisis. 4 and 5 star hotels could be accessed, dirt cheap. After prices rebounded, I stopped trying. You posted this two years ago but I live in California where housing, gas, hotels...everything is sky high. I checked out Hotwire and sure enough, your logic is still accurate. Thanks Travel Girl!

I actually tried the method and yes it does save you money ( booking through them ) but they don’t add the resort fee at the end along with the total cost of your trip. So you get hit with another 100$ or more 🤥🙃 so basically you’ll be paying the minimum with them more at the hotel
You can also find out by matching the number of reviews the hotel has. That's how I do it.
I would love to go to Whistler, Canada with my dad. My dad is the type of person who always puts others before himself. He has always wanted to go to Whistler because he loves the outdoors but never found the time since he has 2 jobs that keep him very busy. Yup. No need to even screenshot, just save the image url and paste it in to image search. It's WAAAAYYY faster than this. Hopefully they don't fix this, been doing it for ages .🤣

The downside to these videos is that the companies are watching so they definitely changed that. So....now we cant see the metrics the same anymore. Therefore making it impossible to do this now.

This no longer works. They use a different rating system now which changes to 10 points from the 5 point hot rate system. Bastards.
