But idiots also handle snakes and kill themselves, no loss to society, but certainly a huge deal for their family and friends. I consider myself a believer - NOT in religion - but in God. The more I study consistent with a scientific method, the more I am convinced of my belief. At the same time, I have also become more aware of the many short-comings of religion. We must be careful not to throw the baby out with the bathwater!

    Religion and science are both true . They both are part of a bigger reality . from where they both originate . both have their role to play for the better of mankind . There is a link between both which science and religion will both accept . The journey towards the absolute is very very complex . The absolute truth is the answer to all religious and scientific questions .

      @frontrunner3052 Před 10 lety

      Religion is nothing but the poison inflicted on mankind since his birth. Yes uniqueness of spiritual; Power is some thing which can be equated with Science

    • @dineshsinha1
      @dineshsinha1 Před 10 lety

      Dear Vipinji lets come to religion first what in religion you feel is a poision and why .

    • @frontrunner3052
      @frontrunner3052 Před 10 lety

      Dear Dinesh - What you define by religion is nothing but a set of doctrine set up by a few chosen in various societies to follow without any murmur. Therefore religion can never be a mirror of logical belief which a person may have. And hence, choosing a religion and thereafter trying it to be rightest form of spirituality, would harm more than any good to society. This is my say on religion.

    • @dineshsinha1
      @dineshsinha1 Před 10 lety

      Vipin Sir , religion is a set of doctrine set by few , These people were like scientist in old days .They could see thing better than others ,there methods are exactly similar to how science work .Only difference science apply this method (reduction) on non living things they applied it on living being humans. They gave some thing which may or may not be fully correct but was better than things available then . Most of them claimed the presence of a huge force managing all . This is correct ,there is a very very complex algorithm which manages every second of all of us's life right from stone age , now and will be in future . This I call as absolute reality . The interesting part is science is also created out of this algorithm . If we change the algorithm of absolute reality the method of science changes , this way there can be infinite different sciences .
      Scientist have also been feeling that there is a scientific constant which is what I define as absolute reality . You see science and religion is no different . Do not take religion as what these religious people feel . Religion is so complex science that to work on it scientifically you cannot use your fussy logic method of working of brain . In fact human being is not designed to see this absolute reality . This is my scientific analysis in a scientific way .Which can be proven to scientific community in scientific way .

    • @frontrunner3052
      @frontrunner3052 Před 10 lety

      Dear Dinesh. While I mostly agree with you in terms of real spirituality with Science, I may not agree with you on part of religion. This is mainly because of set of doctrine persuaded mostly to have their own interest fulfilled. Let us see how the Christianity, Islam and many a sanatan dharmas in Hindusim were distorted only to suit the few chosen one.
      Do not forget, we have the flexibility and real level of acceptance towards change of scientific principles as they are discovered over the period of time. Same is completely
      missing in terms of religion. Can you make changes in following the rules of religion of either society you believe in.
      Therefore according to me let us keep the religion and science separate so that while science can fulfill the everlasting quest of mankind, religion would often make it contradictory.

      Argument from ignorance fallacy... Good job! Have you found a way to demonstrate that your god exists?
      An argument from authority can be valid, if the individual has the credentials to demonstrate their authority on a subject. For instance, Richard Dawkins was the University of Oxford's Professor for Public Understanding of Science for 13 years. That alone gives credence to his authority on the subject.
      So, if you are not ready to demonstrate that your god exists and created life via intelligent design, we will continue to heed the scientific juggernauts' advice on scientific comprehension with little apprehension. Please, present your claim, so it might be weighed and measured.

Yours is hidden but it's there. What's the difference between public brainwash and hidden brainwash? The difference is that public "brainwash" is not brainwash at all. Hidden one certainly is. If you're doing propaganda then admit it- Christians usually do admit that they do it for "insipiring" and for "spreading their faith". This comment is pretty much unrelated to religion or atheism, but...
    How can ANYONE take these clowns seriously? You made a movie about being an atheist, way to go. This movie looks like it would just be a horrible attempt at a cheap PG-13 comedy movie with the cutting edge factor of being anti-religious. I honestly can't take this seriously as a real movie, it just looks like...some romantic comedy starring their lack of belief. What are they going to do? Is Krauss gonna go on a date with a girl in the movie and woo her with romantic lines such as "When I look into your eyes, I see such beauty, and I know nobody created you." or "You'll never know what it's like to look up at the stars and have the marvelous realization that nobody's up there." I'm not really trying to be insulting to any group of people, but this just looks like it lacks anything funny or worthwhile at all, save for the laughter that it brings to me when they try to be all serious. I mean, look at this trash. It's got the movie trailer music and everything. What an embarrassment to atheists and creationists alike. This move tries so hard it embarrasses everyone, no matter what their belief system is. AGAIN, before you get all worked up over this comment, just remember that this has nothing to do with insulting your beliefs or MY beliefs. It's just taking a major piss at this movie and its sad quality.

      1. only reason (i.e. premise to conclusion thinking) supplies knowledge, everything else is illusion or mere subjective sensation. How is this claim that “only reason supplies knowledge” justified? He cannot use reason to support it since it would be circular reasoning, somewhat like saying “the Bible is true because it says so in the Bible”. So, it’s simply plucked out of nowhere.
      2. Having set up an arbitrary notion of ‘knowledge’ he then he goes on the argue (the straw man argument) that the existence of God must be proved by reason.
      3. He then, obviously, cannot find such a proof having arrogantly declared beforehand what God may, or may be and so concludes,
      4. There is no god.
      My question is this: who, apart from Dawkins and the new atheists, said “God is knowledge” in the first place? To quote Evagrius Pontus, “God cannot be grasped by the mind. If he could be grasped, he would not be God”. And, I may add, not only would he not be God, he would be man, “If we could demonstrate the existence of God, everything would eventually be subjected to the sovereignty of man.” Nicolàs Gòmez Davilà, and man would become god - good luck!

      Matthysable 1. The claim is that using logic, evidence and doing experiments [modern science] is the best way known to us for finding things out about the world around us. That's not circular. *Also, What else is there? Flipping a coin?* name one other way.
      2. No, it doesn't even have to be proven in any way. We haven't even got to the point where there is a single bit of evidence and you're talking about proving it. Not to mention the evidence against a god that cares about the well-being of humans.
      3. Well obviously you have to define the properties of a god before setting out to prove/disprove said deity.
      4. So you are admitting that there is no evidence for god and or we can't comprehend it, therefore how could we believe this thing even exists? If there is an all powerful god who is actively hiding from us, then by definition we have no reason to believe in such a thing even if it were real.

    Richard and Lawrence are not alone, atheism is growing every day. This world needs more reasonable people so that we can progress and go deeper in our galaxy. I'm currently completing my master's degree in physics and I should begin my PhD studies by the end of this year. I've devoted my life to science and you should fear me, because I will be a part of the new atheists who will rise and destroy religion. I didn't waste my youth, I was always the greatest and brightest student.

    "Preaching to the choir", as it were, is actually very important to bolster the confidence of those who are persecuted for their beliefs, or lack thereof, and to give those who are undecided food for thought. It's true though, that no "true believer" will want to watch this, but if they were open-minded and honest we wouldn't need religion any more.

    So, I finally had a chance to see this today! I was lucky to catch it on Danish television!
    First off, the praise: I loved it. But really, with such two great figureheads spearheading a documentary, how can you not? The witty comments and hilarious facepalming was enough to last you a lifetime (well, maybe not quite, but certainly a few years ;)).
    The negative though: It lacked, I don't quite know how to say it, "direction". The message was clear from the beginning, and by the end, not much had changed. Nothing new had been done. To some degree, it also lacked "substance". While it showed a VERY great deal of clips from debates, TV shows, live events and so forth, rarely did it stay long enough at them, for anything else than the "punchlines" to be said. Don't get me wrong, I loved the punchlines, but I wish there had been something more.
    While I'll certainly recommend it to some friends, because I'm sure they'll get a kick out of it the same way I do, particularly the ending of it, I doubt anyone who's not specifically interested in this subject, will find it worth their time.
    Personally, I was much more fascinated by the documentaries done on British TV with just Mr. Dawkins, even the ones where it's just one long debate/interview.
    Again, solid documentary, but I felt it could have been a lot more.

    Most people research a single religion their hole lives, because it's a really complex and astoundingly all-encompassing social construct that permeates every facet of life, yet you managed to research all religions and reach a solid conclusion based on dubious records in just 2 years. Wow. Just, wow. You must be some scholar. I'd love to hear why any of the other major religions didn't meet your standards of scrutiny, especially ones way older than Christianity, like Hinduism for example.

    That's the beauty of it. That is not an inconsistency. The fact that you don't think people can be good without a god does not mean everybody else cannot. Asking why we need to be moral is like asking why we need to be healthy? If we are going to live in a co-operative society, it is beneficial for everybody to live in an amicable manner. By the way, this way of doing right things is way more moral, we don't fear any god or expect reward for good actions.
