40+ years retired carpenter, house renovator. When you pull nails stick the crow bar under the head and 'TURN' or twist the crow bar like twisting the key on a can of spam. Same with a hammer, pull the nail a bit then flop the hammer to one side or the other. I have a tactical Tomahawk. You can remove the handle, wrap Gorilla tape, then bankline then paracord around it and leave two inches exposed crowbar. Hit the axe end with a piece of wood like batoning when trying to get the crowbar end (catpaw) under a nail. Bury the pick into wood and you have a stationary knife blade sticking upward. In third world countries they sometimes secure a large knife blade in a vice that leaves both hands to hold a piece of food etc to cut it by pulling it across the blade. I put this in my get home bag because in a SHTF situation when power runs out you first have to get out of buildings with electric doors or safety glass windows, subways, warped steel door frames after an earthquake etc. etc. before making your way home. Plus I would rather have an all steel Hatchet in an emergency situation I don't want a wooden handle in case it breaks and there's no way to repair it I'd rather carry the extra weight. It's also good to keep this in a car because as of 2018 new federal regulations stipulate all car windows must be shatterproof safety glass front rear and sides that is why you can no longer use those little punches to break through a side window this is the ideal tool to keep in a car in case of emergencies to get out

Not sure if I should just go with that or fork out more for the gerber. I definitely like quality. What's your opinion.
My buddy has the Gerber down range. I didn't think it was anything special. It's 420HC, not the greatest metal. I think it was really expensive too. It was totally not worth paid however much it cost. If I saw it for $15 I'd buy it, if I saw it for $35 then maaaaybe, if I didn't already have a small axe. If I saw it for $60 no way. If I saw that CRKT Kangee T-Hawk for $60, I'd buy it straight away.
The problem with the crowbar is that it's not ground down to an angle, it's just a thick piece of metal. I have one of these and I'm gonna grind mine to more of a chisel tip
Seems like a good tool after watching it hack some wood. A little pricey, but it may be a very good multi functional tool after doing a little re-profiling on the spike and the pry bar/nail puller. I think I would remove the scales and replace with para cord, mainly to make it more multi functional.
Say Heah Tac't, I usually like using Traditional Tomahawk's, My ALL Time Fav is my 2Hawks Warbeast, It has three sharp edges and it has some weight behind it so yrah, I'm can chop with it to process firewood and even split with it. It comes with a awesome sheath and on person carry leather sheath with a face cover, It's heavy enough to do some serious chopping, and yet lite enough to on person carry which I do. I sometimes team it up with my Skookum Bush Tool in 3V with it, Or a number of Knives from my 3V Bravo 1 to my Busse Combat Son of Badger to my Busse Combat Ratmandu in the INFI Steel, or my Fallkniven A-1 and my Nordic, But like I said I have others that work great with it, But a guy that likes his Choils and a little longer blade, One of my Fav's knives with my WarBeast is my Ratmandu in the INFI Steel. But then I have a 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet With a similar carry my leather sheath, a quality leather I might add, I like carrying the Double Bit Hatchet, which is a exact copy of Nessmuk Hatchet, When I first opened the box, I though it was too tiny, and tiny it is, But a Lightweight that punches like a heavyweight. Man, Tac't it's Awesomeness, a suppa duppa Lil Hatchet. Now with this one I like teaming it up with my Rodent 5, sometimes I might just add a pocket knife for that Trio, But I have a Orange G-10 Handle CM 154 Browning Independence Fix Blade that I like to carry as a neck knife. Yrah a Flat edge that I keep it scarry sharp with its slight Re-Curve blade what actually carves great. Or I can go as simple as neck carrying my Mora 510 as a neck knife. But yeah, Since I don't have a Job where I need a Tactical Tomahawk such as yours but all my use of my knives are bush/wilderness use. So yeah, I buy my gear for that use and that use only, Coukd I use mine for self defense, You betcha, If I can split coconuts, I can do a person too. One more and that's it. I can use my 2Hawks Warbeast almost as good as my small hatchet's like my Huktifors Bruks Agdor or my Estwings Sportsman Hatchet and I took my WarBeast out instead of my Gransfors Bruks S.F.A. and got away with it in cold weather a few times. Like I said, If it has sufficient weight to it, You can get away using a Tomahawk as a chopper and still on person carry, Ideal for a great Trio Carry even in cold weather scouting to set up a hunting camp. One of my Fav's with my Hawk is my INFI Ratmandu the 2Hawk Warbeast and my Wicked Tough Saw my all time Fav, Or my Busse Son of Badger or even my 3V Bravo 1. See what you did.
The pry bar end is useless. Would have much rather seen them put a spike or a breaker tip for glass on the end of the handle. Plus I seriously wish Kershaw would find someone else to make their covers and sheaths as theirs suck ass in every category minus one: they typically use snaps and not the dreaded VELCRO. Mine cost almost 60 buck and I resold it for 65 at a knife/gun show 3 weeks later. I would definitely agree of the 7.5 rating out of 10. Give us a usable cover and change the end of the handle and it would have been a solid 9 of 10. The steel used is always hinky and temperamental as a 5 year old on a sugar rush. This steel always makes me tempted to hit it flat on its side to see what would happen.

The Gerber Downrange Hawk is dull.
Not meant for fighting or bushcraft. It's a gimmick.
