You can tell by your routine explanation that you actually know how to live without a car. I'm convinced people in LA simply dont understand how to live without a car. I spent 7 years in NYC, and the last 5 in Seattle, and this is exactly how I live my life with out a car. It's refreshing to hear the same lifestyle can exist in LA.
New Yorkers and anyone who has spent time there just gets it! Everyone else is so lost 🤣
@Hate Committee no sorry!
Fully agree. I'm from Chicago and live in LA, and it's easy as hell to live without a car. Lol. Literally never struggled with it.
Yes! You don’t need a car in la! I was born & raised here in la I’m 23 & I’ve never owned a car. I see many videos saying you have to but tbh you don’t. It’s def more convenient if you live closer to downtown. I usually take the bus/train which is an avg of 10$ a month 😂 if I go out I’ll take an Uber which I mean even if I had a car I would if I’m most likely gonna drink haha I avoid ubers but if I go out on the weekend then I take them but yeah I can def say our public transit is better than described by most ppl on CZcams lol I see the $ benefits of not driving & im good! I don’t see myself actually driving til maybe late 20s meanwhile I’m saving & I get to travel ☺️
Exactly!! Having a car used to be required but things have gotten so much easier to live there without one
I’ll visit LA this summer and I only plan to use public transportation. So far I’ve gotten a lot of negative responses about my plan. People saying stuff like “LA is not doable without a car” or even stuff like “I’d recommend cancelling your flight there if you only plan to use public transportation”. This video and your comment has really given me lots of hope! So thank you for that! :)
@@zae1566 hi I see it’s been a few months since I commented this and I think it’s important to share that la has a homelessness problem. I think other big cities can relate like NY? ..so when it comes to using public transit just be careful carry a pepper spray tbh I don’t even carry one idk I just trust that everything will be fine but if it’s yours 1st time here just wanted to share before it hits as a surprise. I think in general in any other big city you should always just be aware. Of course try to avoid public transit in nighttime.
@@angelic680 I‘ll definitely get one! I‘ve read about the homelessness problem, I‘ll just hope for the best too. Are busses „safer“ than the metro?
@@zae1566 yeah I would say bus is def safer than subway! Subway is quicker though but yes
Hi, I'm from Germany and next time i visiting LA i don't wanna rent a car. So thanks for information.
You'll be fine! Have a good trip!
I have lived in LA for 40 years. I never drive.
To live in LA without cars, uber, taxi, or depend on your friends, you must live, work, shop, see Dr., doing errands, having social life in Santa Monica. Some area near union Station where jobs n activities are. How big or small? I don't know. Believe many parts of downtown LA including garment factory areas, public transportation is terrible.
Currently, i live near Cal Poly. Getting somewhere is less challenging with one bus ride. That pretty much eliminate 95% of area within 5 miles.
I have lived in Santa Ana, Buena park, Burbank, Culver City, Pasadena.
Forgot about Buena park.
Santa Ana is like downtown, still getting around within Santa Ana is difficult.
Burbank, it was difficult to get around within difficult when i was tgere. I just google, its better, but still difficult.
Pasadena, you can get around easily without car south of 210 freeway n west of Lake n Colorado all the way to old Town. Actually, it doesn't matter. I always walk in that area. Plenty of business n apartments north 210 n east of lake n Colorado but lack of public transportation. Gold line made even worst because Metro cuts the bus services locally. You heed cars to drive around once you get out of any Pasadena station except Memorial Park.
Culver city, anything along venice. Getting around Culver city, walking 5 miles is faster .
When i lived in Culver city, i always took bus to Santa Monica. I was surprise to see lots of people walking n taking buses. Santa Monica is small, i can walk around city easily. There are many frequent buses.
In summary, you cannot live in LA w8thout cars. During the job interviews, do not tell people you take buses even if companies are near union Station, old town Pasadena, universal studio. Those are near train stations n better public transportation. You will get responses 2 weeks later, companies have found another candidates whose education n experience that are better match to the jobs.
Even Santa Monica, if you don't live in Santa Monica, you get discriminate for taking public transportation.
Your video is misleading.
Making the move from Brooklyn to LA and this video was so encouraging/helpful 🙏🏽
Thanks for the video!
thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing. I’m from LA county & I haven’t had a car in years. I use public transportation & rideshare!
Glad it's working for you!
Pretty accessories you wear🦊
Thanks!
lol i pay 313 a month for my car here in LA, 200 on gas, and 113 on insurance, I rarely pay for parking, so honestly you're not saving as much as you think you are
Hey girl, You’re pretty💖 I like your channel, good words of wisdom for when I move. I’m from East Coast too, DC. So I’m really taking your pointers!
Thank u! R u moving to LA?
Hey Malikah😊 I’m Paris. Yes girl I’m looking to move to Cali and from there out of this country. Sort of like your process, I just have to start somewhere in a different state far from DC Malikah ya know?
@@PrissyP__ cali will already feel totally different, it's beautiful and tons of regional travel
Great video! :) Do you still take the bus to go places? I've been in LA for 2 weeks and I really felt unsafe taking the bus. I took it one time only during daytime maybe I was not lucky...
I don't live in LA anymore but I seriously took it all the time w rarely any issues. Depending on neighborhood and time waiting at the stop too long can be sketchy
Excellent video:) This is just the video i was looking for. I am thinking of moving to LA and Im blidn so obviously dont drive. Thanks for posting :) Do you think an uber rom say Santa Monica to Hollywood is doable?
Yes it is! But I'm not sure the average cost now w the inflation
is uber and lyft reliable in LA? for example a ride from Silver Lake to West Hollywood??
I took it from dtla as far as Santa Monica pretty regularly
Uber and Lyft are crazy expensive now. It cost me like $15 to go a few miles here in LA.
wow really? It used to be so cheap, especially compared to NY prices. Maybe it's just less drivers due to covid or the laws changed regarding how drivers have to be classified.
@@WhereisMalikah less drivers plus no more shared rides allowed on Lyft has significantly jacked the prices up. It’s $3 a mile now.
Have you tried a (cargo) bike?
Ur cute 🥰 I like your video
😊
I got two motorcycles I bought brand new I'm getting rid of my car I want to downsize
You are so cute 🥰
Thanks!
i cant get a gf if i dont have a car....girls here are superficial but having a car pisses me off cant find parking without getting a stupid ass ticket, but with this work from home its like whats the point. I was less stress when i didnt have a car living in New York
Having standards isn't superficial, especially since MOST people in LA have a car, really most people not in NY, they are used to people having one
@@WhereisMalikah the standard is superficial though
The Metro is NOT safe. Lmao.
I took it all the time and never had issues! But never at night!
@@WhereisMalikah Not sure how long ago you lived here but the homeless crisis has gotten 10x worse since March 2020. Public transportation is no longer safe, even during the day. You’re very likely to encounter junkies and mentally ill homeless people who will harass or assault you. I used to feel safe. But no more!
@joakim sure, dude
@joakim cool.
DTLA AND metro? 😳😳😳 it’s a no for me girl 🥲
🤣 I loved DTLA!
