- This unfathomably beautiful memorial honors those who served in the Battle of the Philippines, New Guinea, and the allied recapture of the islands during WWII. The memorial spans 152 acres and contains a total of 17,206 graves.

My Father's brother is on the wall. I have visited that sight four times. I always tear up knowing that my father was unable to visit his brother's grave. Both were in the same location during the battle for guadalcanal. One lived and one died. I now have his brother's name. He died and received the Navy Cross.
The sacrifice and bravery of this US service men will forever be remembered and etched in our history.. Philippine and US will always be allied and brothers... 🇵🇭🇺🇸

what makes this memorial immaculate is seeing all the modern buildings in the background! All their sacrifices didn't go to waste because the country is very prosperous, and free! The way they maintained the memorial shows that no matter what the country go through, they were never forgotten!
It's a show of Filipino gratitude to Americans saving them from the Japanese. Until we see another one better on CZcams, this is the best American cemetery in the world at least outside the states.

There are other American cemetery in the other islands...Iloilo City/Clark. They're also well maintained.

The cemetery is maintained by the US government, specifically the American Battle Monument Commission (ABMC) which maintains US Military Cemeteries outside the United States. It is truly a beautiful place to honor the fallen that gave so much for freedom.
Just to add to what you have said, the crosses represent the fallen who were buried, the names on the wall are those who were lost and never recovered, this number is in excess of 36.000. As MIAs have been found and identified a marker is put next to their name on the wall. So in total there is over 50,000 servicemen honored here.
The Philippine government gave huge respect for these fallen soldiers who sacrifices their lives for the liberation of the Philippines. My salute!
It's actually maintained by the US government. Just so happens that their money goes a longer way in the Philippines.
If you want to see how the Philippines treats their "heroes," just go to the other cemetery nearby called "Libingan ng mga Bayani," which means Cemetery of Heroes.

The Philippines just spend just 1.01 percent on defense.

Currency value does not represent the economy and prosperity of the country. Just compare South Korean won and Philippine peso, it's 24.22 won to 1 peso. Does that mean South Korea is lagging behind the Philippines? Absolutely not.
Thank you for sharing your vlog. Tears rolled down my cheeks watching your vlog. This is my first time to know of such a cemetery in BGC, Manila. I was 6 years old then in 1943 when my family evacuated our town in Sagada Mt. Province, already occupied by the Japanese soldiers, without my father because he was always in hiding. The Japanese were looking for him because he was the mayor of Sagada at that time. When they could not find him they caught his father, made him dig his own grave and buried him alive. They sent their spies to let my father know of what happened to his father which led him to want to see where his father was buried alive. There they caught him and imprisoned him at the garrison. But that night he escaped and since then joined the guerrilla. He was present when Gen. Yamashita surrendered in Ifugao. But he had no record in the US enlistments so was never compensated. But the Phil. Government recognized him so that my mother had been receiving P500. O0 a month. Thanks again!
Stories like this reminds me of my grandparents' versions which are very similar. Those Japanese soldiers were so barbaric and evil that even animals would be put to shame. Short, very insecure, brainless savages behaving badly towards defenseless civilians. I wonder if any them even face justice for crimes against humanity.

Of course not. My own late father witnessed a baby tossed in the air catch by a bayonet of them screwball Japs. Let's try doing this to them. We'll see how they react.

My father's brother, EMC3C William E Parrish is buried here! Was KIA on board the USS Hopewell in the harbor near battan and corrigador Feb 14, 1945 by battery Mona, a 6" shore battery in a cave up in the mountains! I think is was 17 KIA on Hopewaell that day! Beautiful place, nice to know it is well cared for!!

Finn Snow, have visited and featured this too during his visit in BGC and he cried , so heart touching. And becoming Filipino as well, if i'm not mistaken.
I've seen many in recent months, just recently a family was there but couldn't go around looking at names, couldn't really go anywhere, said the security guard would not let them do it, the person wouldn't allow them film the cemetery which was sad yet others can. But the husband said they were amazed, enjoyed it.Who was that security guard, so I can tell him a piece of my mind.
This is why We Filipinos and Americans will always be brothers. We have each other's back in times of war and peace. We'll never forget those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom that we enjoy today.

I visited the cemetery back in May when I was in Manila; it was quite beautiful & well-kept. Not only soldiers are buried there, but sailors as well. When i visited, there was one other person there; i hope more Filipinos will visit this place. Stay safe!

Hard to believe its so close to the Venice Grand Canal Mall. When we visit one, we visit the other.
I just shared this to my uncle who is a retired military and based in Baguio City, Philippines with my aunt and their kids. Not sure, if he visited this already. But got to see this along with their comrades who are retired and are based in the Philippines now.

There are 2 American Cemeteries in the Philippines. The other one is in Clark Airbase in Angeles, Pampanga.
There is a third one in corregidor, there is also a wall there with fallen soldiers names.

I saw my great grandmother on her deathbed before immigrating to Canada at age 7. I was around 5 or 6 at the time when my father took the family to visit her out of thanks and respect. She was receiving US Government compensation money till she died at the age of 96. That money put my father through Architectural School. It paid for his tuition, uniforms, food, room and board, everything, etc. My great grandmothers son (my father's, father's brother (My father's Uncle)) was a Philippine Army Scout in General MacArthur's Army when Japan invaded in 1941-42. Unfortunately, he was captured and died in a Japanese Prisoner of War camp.

You would also love Corregidor Island, in Manila Bay, where they have ruins from WWII, the famous Malinta Tunnel, and a US Veterans Memorial, which, I believe, is funded by the US gov’t. Interestingly, there is a very old lighthouse built by the Spanish, long before the Americans colonized the islands, and is maintained by the Spanish. So you see the flags of both countries.

If you want to see more of the history of Filipinos and americans fighting the Japanese. Go to corregidor the last bastion of freedom during the Japanese occupation. Just take a ferry ride from mall of Asia.
A sad fact that most Americans I've met don't even know that the US has a cemetery in the Philippines and that the US once colonized the country. I guess the cemetery in Normandy gets more PR when remembering World War II.

It is privately owned now. ex pres AH Fidel Ramos sold it and a lot of govt owned land was sold during his and all the ones followed him except for duterte.
Why kept green and clean?

This is Libingan ng Bayani (Heroes Cementery).. This is also for Filipino Heroes who died during WW2 not only Americans (the title of this video is not right).. My grandfather who was a soldier who died in death march in Bataan has also cross there and enlisted his name.

The American military cemeteries are FATHOMABLE everywhere they are, Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, they are all heartbreaking.
Bakit Hindi na lang pagsamahin lahat at Ilagay sa isang Column bury,
Para mabigyan ng malaking Space ng Lupa at madagdagan yung Land Area ng BGC to Developed as Business Center.
The Cemetery is already there since 1948 . Wala pang BGC. So magaadjust ang cemetery?

Puro kayo building nakikinabang lang ay ang mga damuyog na mga developer. Hindi ka ba natutuwa at kahit paano ay may open spaces sa BGC para maka singhot kayo ng sariwang hangin.
