I would suggest that the best phrasing of the question would be "How much luggage (or pieces of luggage) did you bring? I would definitely omit the phrase "with yourself" as both awkward and redundant.

Maddy, is that a way to differentiate a noun whether it is singular or plural ? Even uncountable noun from countable ? And there is a theory ( from a grammar book, I have forgotten the title )that cummulative nouns such as : police, team, family , orchestra, s on and so forth CAN BE BOTH SINGULAR AND PLURAL, which DEPENDS to the logic of the verbs , whether the action must be done individually or as a unity, with a semantic agreement. What do you think about this?
For example : the orchestra always plays in that hall
Right now, the orchestra are tuning their instruments ???
