As fun as it is to make fun of the Sixers, them getting an unprotected pick from the Clippers for Harden, just to steal PG in free agency, is amazing stuff. Obviously, the 4th year of the deal is going to be horrendous, but it's a worthy gamble.

Nah. He costs almost as much as Jrue Holiday, Al Horford and Derek White combined ... to be relegated to a role player in order to fit within the team. Sixers cooked themselves in good old fashioned Morey style, who banks on players past performances as opposed to realistic future ones. The team would look much better with a bunch of role players like Caleb Martin and Isaiah Joe etc ...

These kind of risks are necessary when as a front office you trade Mikal Bridges for Zhaire Smith, give Tobias Harris 180 million, etc.

Not really the same in the details, Nets got equivalent of 9 1st rounders and Cam Thomas for KD and got KD in free agency. PG was acquired for 5 firsts and SGA, then leaves for nothing. PG effectively destroyed the Clippers for a long time.
It was Kawhi who wanted PG and he got his wish.

The PG is the GOAT thing just comes from him having an aesthetic game, hes almost like the perfect videogame character. Good jumper, athletic, defensive, can playmake, can finish and hes just got a very smooth game. Its not too common but ive heard it a few times online
It just shows what players think is important, like how they like Kyrie.
It also shows why we shouldn't listen to players talk about sports.
In that sense, George is like the modern Vince Carter. VC in his prime was considered to be the perfect “2K” player. I feel like guys see the same things in George.

I've read a lot of comments online about people being mad at this signing, saying it's a sinkhole giving a 34 year old a max contract...while here in LA people aren't complaining as much as how were about to give a guy, that's gonna turn 40 this year a 3 max contract, hired his podcast buddy as head coach and even drafted his son so that he would stay...
You simply have to make a move like this if you're Philly or trade Embiid. It's literally as simple as that.

PG is way down that list. He's had as many great playoffs as bad.
Daryl Morey is the biggest sucker for paying huge for guys who have achieved nothing and are well past their prime. You can guarantee this will end with a 2nd round exit with Sixers, fans asking for PG’s throat in 12-24 months and screaming again that Embiid never had a good team around him.
Morey has been a mess in Philly. Starting with not firing Doc after blowing that Hawks series.
What was the alternative?

Paul George’s moment might have been the 2013 East semi-Finals vs the Knicks where a deep Pacers team beat Melo in clutch moments but got beat by Lebron, Wade & Bosh in the ECF. From that point on, it became about the money. He went to OKC where it went nowhere. Finally the Los Angeles Beach Boys assembled 4 guys from California (Kawhi, Paul George, Russel Westbrook, James Harden) and it didn’t work. PG-13 wanted another giant bag of cash 💰 AND a trade to Philly. In a 40 game season, this is a win. In a long 82 game season, I dunno if this gets the Sixers to the Finals with a 34 yr old PG-13.
They won’t. Celtics most likely come out the East, while sixers have another failed season and second round exit. People think Simmons embiid, jimmy butler, and jj reddick was worse than this team? Because this team is worse. If that 2019 Philly squad couldn’t get it done, this team don’t stand a chance.

I have a theory that Clippers refused to give PG the 4 year max because they have full access to his medical records and were not confident he would play at worst a satisfactory level by the end of said contract. It is very similar to the Amare Stoudemire situation with Phoenix in 2010 they let him go sign with the Knicks because he had bad knees and wanted a 5 year guaranteed max the six year option was completely off the table. Ballmer is loaded he isn’t stupid he knows he got duped by OKC in the PG trade in 2019 which was contingent on landing Kawhi in free agency. Now Ballmer is cutting his losses.😂😂
you might be right. This might be the last year of PG's prime, and could go downhill fast in that 2nd year and beyond of the contract. Bad bet when you already have another injury prone superstar who is also getting up there in age...

Bill is way overselling the bad parts about going to Philly. Paul George gets to be a secondary or third level star on a team with a playoff run and he's shielded because the team's failures rest on Embiid health

Sixers had no choice. Even though they'll never win a title with Embiid because of his injury history, they still had to do the dance and pay for another star alongside their MVP or he would bust out of there. Embiid has certainly had enough examples of players acting badly, so he definitely would do what KD, Kyrie, Harden and Simmons did. I sure hope everybody stays healthy.
In last years 2024 playoffs , Paul George and James Harden together were VERY GOOD together . They were beating Dallas and had a huge in-Season Winning streak. When Kawai Leonard came back from injury it totally threw their chemistry off and that’s when they lost the series . Harden and George was working WELL.

I'd rather sign PG to this deal vs trading 6 firsts for a very good role player like the Knicks did for Bridges. The Sixers window is really on 2-3 years with Embiid so signing an aging star makes more sense for the Sixers. He's the perfect fit next to Embiid/Maxey too with great spot up shooting and very good perimeter defense.

Some of the biggest what ifs in Pacer history. What if Paul George never got hurt. Does he become the best player or close to it in the league. What if Indiana didn’t trade Kawhi Leonard for George Hill. Imagine a starting lineup of Random PG(probably Lance Stephenson) PG, Kawhi, West, and Hibbert… yea that team could’ve won at least one ring. 2011-13 PG was on a different level. What if what if.
It's crazy to think George is getting that much money at 34-38 and that he wants to leave LA to get it. Why bother? He's not winning jack with Embiid, it's cold and that extra $50 million makes absolutely zero difference to his or even his grandkids lives.
The only people who think PG is the GOAT are the youngsters who learned hoops from Instagram. That demographic overvalues PG and Kyrie because they’ve got a pretty game. Those people overvalue a “bag” and undervalue effectiveness/impact.
PG role on this team is to be a closer and shooter. Also when Embiid is on bench he becomes a secondary option to Maxey. He will have games they go through him cause they are hot. But most games will go through their MVP and Maxey’s young legs

Wanting to return to your home base and actually returning to your home base are two very different things. I completely understand how a guy could finally get sent back to where he's from and then realized that he wanted to get out of there the whole time. Paul George's now asked out of or bailed on three different teams which is basically the same as Kevin Durant. The only difference is that Paul never joined a dynasty or a team coming off of a championship who had just beaten his team.😊

Free Agency Is usually suppose to be fun and this year has been lackluster and it actually hurts the league. They may make some changes to the CBA as time goes on because a lot of the interest is Free Agency!
