  • A former top Post Office executive has refused to apologise for her role in the Horizon IT scandal, insisting: “I didn’t knowingly do anything wrong”.
Angela van den Bogerd began her evidence to the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry by saying that she is “sorry for the devastation” wrought on subpostmasters and their families.
But when pressed by Inquiry counsel Jason Beer KC, Ms van den Bogerd insisted she had been unaware of critical flaws in the Post Office’s IT system.
“You make no concession or admission that you did anything wrong”, said Mr Beer.
Ms van den Bogerd replied: “I didn’t knowingly do anything wrong.”
TalkTV's Dr David Bull and Sarah Hewson are joined by journalist Nick Wallis to discuss.

This isn't a court of law, it's an official enquiry. (although witnesses have to swear on oath to tell the truth) The judiciary will be looking at this and decide where we go from here. Personally, i think heads will roll eventually. This is why she was playing dumb for most of the two days.
If you are interested, the Paula Vennells appearance next month is going to be a must watch. (May 22nd)
There is lots more mileage in this scandal to come. If its proven that these people lied in a court of law (they did, but it must be proven) over the prosecutions, they are in deep trouble.

Don't forget, Alan Bates will settle for nothing else but seeing heads roll. He has been like a dog with a bone for 20+ years, and is not going to let it go any time soon.
I hope he gets a crowdfunding appeal going, so he/they can bring private prosecution, if it needs it. They have the country behind them. I have the utmost regard for him.

Civil Servant here. I have seen with my own eyes the decline in the Civil Service over the last 20 yeasr or so. It's staggering how the people who have elbowed the way to the senior positions are just so self-serving and socioparthic. They give talks about their "career journey", i.e how they climbed the greasy pole and are so brilliant, in which they lay bare that they just moved from job to job and hopped from different Civil Service departments on their rise. They have no expertise in anything at all, other than in getting themselves promoted. If someone was needed to close an office and effectively make long-serving loyal staff redundant, these are the characters that happily volunteer to do it (and later use it as an example in their promotion applications in support of how they are brilliant at making difficult decisions). I've even imagined that if it was decided that 10% f people had to be exterminated, these ar ethe people who would happily draw up lists and get it done. I've even come across a few people who I concluded were stratight up psycopaths.

Did they structure her leaving as redundancy as a way of giving her massive leaving package! They all knew the wheels were coming off the waggon especially her.

The evidence brought up of the SPM who was so traumatised by his prosecution that he threw himself under a bus and died later in hospital was truly heart rending. A direct result of his prosecution - THAT was down to the PO. So the PO was responsible for that - no doubt about it. Down to the 'legals' as to whether that was Corporate Manslaughter - but if it is then jail time is beckoning for someone.

If the police don't act we need to follow Alan Bates and crowdfund such a process. We cannot let these people get away without a trial.
My cheque book is ready if no action is taken.
Let's have some proper justice for teflon executives for a change and get faith back in justice.

The lawyers coach them what to say ,and whatever to stick to it .The same with Granville towers or the NHS baby scandal ,the public see through it all yet they keep getting away with it .Tony Blair said that he acted in good faith upon the information that he believed to be correct at the time ,They will not change until someone is jailed ,then perhaps those in charge may act truthfully ,or lesson's will be learnt ,over and over again .
