- PART 2 : Available soon!
The journey of Marco Polo, famous venitian merchant who in the 13th century travelled from Europe to China, and met with emperor Khubilai of the mongol Yuan dynasty, is one the most famous stories of humanity. However, in complete parallel to Marco Polo, one religious adventurer born in China, would accomplish the exact opposite, travelling to Europe and meeting several famous khans, kings, and even the pope. This is the story of Rabban Bar Sauma.

Thank you. I am Christian Han Chinese living in a South East Asia. This is the first time I learn about the voyage of these two Nestorians.
You are a very skilled storyteller. Do not be disheartened by not too many views. You do not make cat or make up videos.
Truly great documentaries you produce!
Yes talk about underated
Superlative. This is what a CZcams documentary should be. Interesting and informative, high production values, exquisite graphics, professional narration. Thank you for the awesome maps and visuals.
My new favourite channel.
Wow, this should be a movie
Incredible video, cannot wait to see the rest. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed!
I concur
Your voice is very peaceful and calm. I like it❤.
Something I personally wonder is how many languages these two would need to learn to be able to communicate their way throughout these vast landscapes and so many countries/tribes/etc
At the minimum? 3.
Mongolian, Persian, Latin
Well, all the places they have been so far were in the Mongol empire, presumably mongolian and Chinese languages.
Just want to say - thank you so much for this video and all your videos. You're really wonderful.
Thank you so much :)
I've been waiting for this video and I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed!
Found your channel when I saw your Yuan Dynasty video. Your content on Chinese history and culture is fantastic, you've certainly earned a new subscriber 👍
Thanks a lot, welcome aboard :)
Rabban was Uyghur man not chinese.
Rabban is not chinese name.
Cannot wait for the second part!
I also love the fact that now the videos has the Chinese names in traditional script, I think that fits more in the channel's identity
Been waiting for your uploads 😁
Excellent video. Very interesting, informative and worthwhile video.
Cheers!
looking forward to part two!
Thank you for this video! You did an excellent work!
Cheers!
Great video! I love your smooth voice, it helps me fight my anxiety!
Thanks for the uploads. Interesting.!
Glad you enjoyed!
I didn't realize this was a two-part video at first, so I was a bit disappointed that they didn't seem to get very far. I was worried it was clickbait. But it looks like quite a lot happens in part 2 so I will watch that now
Super interesting = thank you!
That was great thanks
Its been a while since you upload but its worth a wait.
Thanks! I had a few setbacks
@@History_of_China Binge watching the new upload.
Thank you very much
Thank you so much to rewriting Uyghur Man Rabban Sauma to chinese history.
new history of china upload lets goooooooooooo
new History of China post, I click
you should also make a video about Chiang Kai Shek, the history of the NRA or China in WW1/WW2 might all be fun :)
I talked about Chiang Kai Shek in my civil war series, but I plan to do a biography of major 20th century Chinese figures when the time comes. In the meantime though, I'd like to finish the Yuan and Ming eras :)
History of China looking forward to it :)
Love the video.
Thanks!
你辛苦了。 谢谢你。
great job, I had heard of him but never knew his story. It's extremely interesting

@@History_of_China yeah i saw, it was awesome

Awsome
The history of Christianity in China 🇨🇳 is fascinating☦️🕊✝️
This would make a wonderful tv series.
Absolutely agree.
Uyghur❤
The Yuan dynasty was unbelieavably cosmopolitan at the time.

Interesting video. Never knew about either of these guys.
Thanks! Underrated historical figures for sure
The Church of the East. Fascinating.
The church of the east = Nestorian church
@@erickchandra3771 I know
Syriac Church of the East.
Hi, would you send this history as a pdf to me ? Thank you very much . Im from iran maragheh.
Is Feng Xian county characters based off Lv Bu's courtesy name?
You're correct! They are both written "奉先", though I couldn't find out why...
When the next video is coming?
Working on it! So far I have the script and some pictures, so I hope to upload it in 2 or 3 weeks
Although I get that you're probably starved for images when it comes to Rabban Bar Sama, the image you use is actually from an icon of Mitrophan Ji--an Chinese convert to Orthodox Christianity who became a priest and was martyred during the Boxer Rebellion. The story of the Russian Mission in Beijing, including the story of Saint Mitrophan, might prove an interesting topic for this channel
You're absolutely correct. There are no pictures of Bar Sauma, and my first choice was a depiction of a Nestorian monk from Persia. Given Bar Sauma's ethnic background, though, I decided to compromise and take a likely more realistic - although anachronic - picture.
That subject would be very interesting indeed! But I have many more projects planned before :)
Rabban Saums (Marc) -- Uyqhur
At first I was getting some journey to the west vibes, but it was much more than that. HaHa. Very interesting!
Rabban Sauma ( Mark) --- Uyqhur.
Do you have any tips on how to pronounce Chinese words as good as you do?
study chinese!
Easy Study chinese.!
Google Translate
Well thanks! For me, the best method after getting a basic knowledge of the language is to simply get immersed in native pronounciation (though media or real life interactions), and practice, practice, practice! I find it way better to try to reproduce the sounds you hear rather than read a phonetic transcription. I also have a few Chinese speaking friends who could help me and correct me when I mispronounced things. Hope that helps :)
Hallo where are you we are waiting for a new episode have you giving up.?
I'll never give up :) Part 2 up in a few hours!
@@History_of_China fucking awsome im been waiting like mad.:D
@@History_of_China after part 2 will you go and doing the temür khan episode.?:D
@@markusforsberg6741 Exactly! I'll probably talk about the Yuan dynasty's culture too :)
@@History_of_China how long is part 2.?:)
for algorithm
Did not have the time to comment, other than a quick comment. As per usual a wonderful video. Just a slight critic, friendly, as all criticisms should be, your definition of Nestorious's Christology is rather lacking. Again, my doff my hat, four cornered.
Thank you! Yes, my original script went more in detail, but I chose not to go too in depth, since the story was more about the man and the journey :)
@@History_of_China Best way to keep it, succint, brilliant as ever
Polo
He was Uyghur not chinese.
Rabban is not chinese name
@@kasyakyoubfgamindikisborat it was a joke...
Taoist-buddhist war ?
Too bad he never reached Jerusalem, his goal destination.
But he did reach Paris! Part 2 coming up today :)
@@History_of_China I don't think he cares about that. It's not his goal, just a bonus.
Nestorianism need to be PRESERVED
Rabban Sauma is Uyghur..
why you lying?
he was not chinese
Well he was most likely an Ongut. Never said he was a Han, but he was from China, the geographical location.
@@History_of_China He was born in Uyghur family.. he was not Ongut
Did you ever see any Ongut or Mongols with name Rabban Sauma?
Mongols and other East Asians never used Aramean names as like Uyghurs
Thanks for your teaching, but China did not exist during that time. It was Mong Yuan country.
You're not wrong, but when I mention China in this video, I am talking about the geographical location :)
He is no chinese he is Turk
He is turk and he is Muslim... World has to stop ignoring turkiiq history... GOKTURKS are coming...
*Mao Ze Dong propaganda song starts playing*
It’s so annoying when we use some eurowhite person as the standard .. stop calling everyone or referring to people as a version of some Eurowhite individual..
I think you should called them "white european" rather than "eurowhite". "Eurowhite" is not a standard term. Never before i encounter a person called those demographic as "eurowhite".
@@muhammadabdullahhanif8860 I hope I get the credit when it becomes as such 😅
Do you have a better name?
So we shouldn't compare Europeans to anyone else? The reason he's called the Chinese Marco Polo is because Marco is more famous. Its a nice way of establishing a lesser known figure to a more understood one. I'm tired of people like you.
@@aztaline5593 we are aware of the standard talking points but thanks anyways 🙄
Not Chiniese history, more Mongolian history.
