From the perspective of a retired A&P, most people don't realize the constant inspections, maintenance, care and hard work it takes to keep these historical aircraft flying. It takes expertise, dedication, know-how and long hours of volunteer work. My hat is off to all who maintain not only this beauty, but any others out there that are still flying. Cheers.
Not to mention the money required to keep these beauties airborne. To my mind, the B-17 is still one of the most beautiful airplanes ever to fly.
To me, there is nothing more iconic than the sight of a WWII warbird. They say AMERICA to me!
They are awe-inspiring. The crews who flew them though are even more incredible. The courage these fellas had to go over Nazi-occupied Europe or the Japanese-held Pacific and destroy their key positions/industries, the whole time braving Hitler and Tojo's best defensive forces (considered by some to be among the strongest in history), just boggles the imagination. If I wore a hat, I would be taking it off every time I saw one of these men in person (sadly, there aren't many of them still with us now).
Love the B-17! My uncle John F Mayek Jr. Flew one in WWII and was shot down over Germany. He and his crew made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and I will be forever grateful! I joined the Air Force because of him and was a Crew Chief on the B-52 H/G. Never forget our heroes!
Thanks for posting without music. Those 4 engines are the music. An ever sweet sound.
Handshake, this aircraft is such a beauty, and as I overhear in the video, It never gets old!
CAVU
Music to our ears!! 4 engine heavy bomber at 80 years old, all restored to more than airworthy condition. Pristine B-17G in the pattern. Imagine the concentration of the crew to navigate this simple but totally critical phase of the flight and nailing it like pro!! So it's done, Nice landing guys, So happy this is still going on, keep it coming.
Got to tour that b17 a few weekends ago in Dallas. Beautiful plane. Glad it’s still flying.
I got to see it in arizona in april it was awesome!
That is a magnificent plane. The view of it banking to the right (at 2 min 40 sec) to line up with the runway is one of the best parts in the video. I watched them overhauling this plane at the Commemorative Air Force Museum, last year in Mesa, Az.
What an awesome airplane! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic that this marvelous bird is still flying and looking beautiful. I have photographs when I was fortunate enough to do a walk through at my local air show in Autumn of 1997. Great job of capturing the flight through the pattern as much as possible. Especially the gear extension. Love it!
Gotta say that nothing else sounds like a quartet of right and proper Round Motors. 🎶👂
True, Cyclones purr.........the song of the Merlin is right up there too.
Both were war winners...
@@stevebroughton4787 Hmm ... "The song of Merlin" ... that should be a leatherbound novel ... or a song to be played on a hammered dlucimer.
Good video. Well photographed.
I can't be sure about the plane name on the nose, but that plane sure looks like Sentimental Journey from Mesa, Az. Update: it is Sentimental Journey
Merveilleux avion d’une fiabilité et d’une résistante exceptionnelle 👍👍👍
The later B-17 types are still a good looking airplane. I don't have a scientific definition of why, only have that my being finds this to be a good looking airplane. This later type has more pleasing lines than the earliest B-17s with skinny aft fuselage and narrower vertical stabilizer.
Thank you for sharing! I do, however, have an issue with your title. I have flown on this aircraft and have to tell you, that is a "textbook " landing .
I had the privilege of volunteering for the local CAF chapter, when they had their local airshow. Sadly, the Mayor, of the City got greedy. Great video, thanks again!
12 o clock high.
Has anyone figured out what the background noise is in this video? It sounds like cicadas. Beautiful Flying Fortress.
I was there. It is indeed cicadas. They were everywhere and even landing on my clothes.
@@mikefranks3538 I read someplace that cicadas like to land on people. They're one of my two favorite insects, the other being the preying mantis. Our brood hit here (eastern WV) in 2021 and it was a doozy. I doubt I'll be around for another one since I'm 85 now.
@@dlkline27 This B-17 lost the number four engine on takeoff on 05/19/ 24. Made it back to the ground without incident. The cicadas were there in full force also.
Don’t let any P-63’s near it.
Exceptionnel atterrissage de ce magnifique Bombardier américain qu’est le B-17 Flying Fortress!!🇺🇸 🎉 Est ce que les cigales voulait créer des turbulences pour t’empêcher d’entendre le son du B-17? 😮😅
What exactly is rare about it? Every time one takes off it has to land.
Uhh, did I miss the landing 😮
The B-17 landed smoothly, and began taxiing to a safe spot. Very few of the Flying Fortresses are airworthy these days.
IN MEMORY OF THE CIVILIAN VICTIMS OF THIS KIND OF PLANE
IF YOUR TOO OLD TO FLY FOR AN AIRLINE, YOUR TOO OLD TO FLY IN THE DALLAS AIRSHOW...... OVERPAID RETIRED AIRLINE BOOMERS
Amen brother
Bob Hoover was too old for the airlines and he was one of the best pilots that ever lived, theres a lot of airline pilots i wouldnt trust with an RC plane, think a bit before you make such generalized statements.
@@bjornmclir5015 Bob Hoover's insurance cut him off...for a reason
Better than being an age where you have to yell (caps lock) and misuse “your” instead of “you’re.”
