About the stash tabs: It feels like a junior game designer got a task to download poe and check how many tabs are there. He returned to his team lead saying: "Well there are 4 tabs and people are happy with it"
Blizzard has a team called "Games User Research". They bring in volunteers to play the game and provide feedback. Most larger game companies have these teams and they are usually lead by psychologists or ex-QA or design leads. Some of that testing and providing feedback comes from the user tests, from forums, reddit, Twitch, from survey data and also from data that the game collects. It's that team's purpose to condense the data and present to leadership to avoid unfun or unintuitive features and mechanics in the game. My best guess for how D4 could miss so many marks in that department are: they recruited the same testers repeatedly from UC Irvine, they didn't invest enough in the games user research team (Blizz was one of the last large studios to acknowledge that their designers weren't gods and actually needed games user research), the games user research team did a mediocre job collecting, interpreting or presenting their findings, or leadership didn't care about their findings. It's probably a mix of all of these things.
I was on the Ubisoft playtest Team in 2007. Playtested Anno titles in their Frankfurt HQ. I found Something annoying with the pathing and they actually inplemented my Suggestion in the Game. The golden days
Quin should interview someone that removes landmines for a job, I think the amateurs he got on call with so far have done a splendid job at not stepping on any but I'd really like to see a professional show how it's done

There is so much talk about why the d4 is the way it is. Why do we have so little inventory space, why is it all so unthought out with the inventory. Why is the item system as bad as it is. Why is the endgame so bad. Why the nightmare dungeons. All these questions. People, you started diablo 4 on the first day and after 5min you could see that diablo 4 was just released too fast and is still completely unfinished. In every Blizzard game there is an option to watch the video sequences again. Starcraft, World of Warcraft, Diablo 2 + 3, just in Diablo 4 this option is missing, the first big intro video you can never watch again if you skipped it, not even with a new character. Only on CZcams. This alone shows that many parts of Diablo 4 were simply thrown together too quickly in the final spurt just to publish it as quickly as possible. And it's bullshit.
Diablo was kind of fun but I ran out of things to do so fast ... I'm right now back chilling on poe while waiting for exilecon ... I wonder what I would choose as an answer to the title ....

about the turbo hud bans in d3 its a fact that there has not been a single person that got banned in the history of diablo 3 for using it, it was such a huge fact in d3 community that ppl knew about botters hiding behind thud also wudijo had his original youtube channel deleted and started his current channel again, in his deleted youtube channel he made an apology video regarding his ban that u cant find it anymore or maybe someone can idk, tldr of that video was that he got frustrated during that season and he botted or was getting mats from bots (some shit excuse tbh) and i remember that clearly cuz at first i kinda believed he got banned for thud cuz there were rumors around if u stream thud u get banned but some guy that i dont remember who streamed it and didnt get banned for it and after wudijos apology video i was kinda in disbelief that he botted but it is what is and didnt cared that much and i still like wudi he is a very good player

since i am working in the industry i can give maybe some insight what kind of problems can occur and why some of the stuff that seems obvious is not in the game. this ist just theory but i want to give you some hints, why a 5th stash tab is not done in like 5 minutes and maybe they even knew during development but could not finish that till the release date: 1. QA can give feedback on game design but usually in smaller companies - in big triple a titles you hire a bunch of Qa testers that get a testplan of steps they need to do, checkmark if it works or not - and then give the document back to the developers, so they can decide if quality is enough or not - in smaller teams its easy to walk do a gamedesigner and say "hey i found that frost orb feels bad during testing - maybe you can look into it" in big teams the lowest QA testers usually have like 15 layers of command above them so their feedback about game design would never reach somebody that has actually the power to change anything about it. 2. adding a stash tab as an example. like you get the feedback half a year before release - somebody sees, hey .... if i want to play more than one character, the 4 stash tabs are not enough, can we add more. Then this feedback goes to a game designer - that designer checks, ok what implications would that have for our game because maybe someone else designed some systems around the 4 stash tab limit right? If the whole game design is done by like 1 or 2 people it gets easy - if there are 50 gamedesigners, then you bring them all into a meeting (takes weeks untill all have spare time do so) - so you sit down and say, hey stash tabs, we need more, anybody problems with that? maybe you are not so sure after the meeting and say, hey lets check this, do a meeting again next week to make a decission. next week everybody comes back - the trade design guy says, check! no problem - the other designers say, hey we also found no issues with that, lets do more stash tabs! 2.1 game designer goes to the person who is more or less planning what content gets done at what point of time. hey lets do more stash tabs! - ok, what departments do you need? - eeeehm - like everybody, frontend, database, graphics, backend, UI design, console design, ..... manager looks through current plan..... ok backend would have time - frontend would have time in like a month (backend dude yells, we cannot start till we know what frontend will do!) ok so fronend first - then backend in 2 month there would be a slot, (frontend yells - we would need the updated UI to do anything in the client), ok UI would have time next week (UI yells - we need the graphics first) Ok graphics do not have time till in 5 month , oh damn there is release - would we like to shift 50 million marketing to push back the release so we can get 4 additional stash tabs in? ..... CEO: how many of our players play more than 1 character? 10% ? nope! - ok no stash tabs. that is of course an over the top example to the max, but just to make sure what it means to coordinate such a huge project with hundreds of people working on it all over the world. The smaller the company, the faster stuff can get done. Since if you have 3 people in a garage number 1 says stash tabs, number 2 says ok, gimme 5 minutes, number 3 says i would also need 5 minutes after that - ill do it after lunch. And bingo. Of course this is not the "problem" of the player - but thats the price one pays to have top end graphics, good quality, huge marketing and our beloved lillith vs inarius cutscene, and a game like poe in the beginning was blasting out changes (maybe you have seen that development of poe2 is also taking way longer than they expected, because its not an garage indigame anymore and the team is way bigger)
Hey that actually made a whole heap of sense lol, my worries are that they have barely even talked about it still and meanwhile they should definitely prioritize this specific aspect of the game cause as of right now its killing the longevity of D4.
I used numlock trick in d3 and MULTI botted, I was always at the pc and playing for this. I would stream on twitch and i had viewers who would come by and give me their acnt details, if they were crusader, and I would multi bot grind and just funnel god tier loots to my main and put upgrades on the multi bots that were not upgrades for me. It was mutually beneficial. I was never banned and I even was like top 17 to cap lvl in one league, one of the acnts i was controlling hit cap lvl at nearly the same time and was like rank 80 lol. They always seemed lenient to me on their botting practices as long as you were not botting while afk, no automated inputs, just propagated inputs. You didn't need autohot key for numlock shit, but I used that for months before I realized you could just do it w/o a program.. Just anecdotal input that they were lenient with AHK
emp is right QA is exactly what he said. They will have a bunch of test cases like the example he gave, do it then say passed or fail. Game balance and/or tabs etc is prob handled by another team and they prob don't even play the game.
People telling empy hes wrong about what QA is. is fking hilarious guys it takes 1 google search and knowing that QA stands for QUALITY ASSURANCE to know that that is exactly what QA is. Devs asking QA testers for an opinion on what they could change or what they would want is completely optional .
Quinn worries so much about what other people are doing even if it doesn’t affect him. And watching him “interview” people is painful. He spends half the time trying to make them say what he wants rather than their own opinion. Unchecked ego really is difficult to be around.
Quin asking a question and then interrupting Empy with a "what about..." every 5 sec made this unbearable to watch, holy hell please let your guests finnish their sentences at least.
When you open the map you should see your characters hands holding the map, as if they were the ones trying to figure out ''where am I going''. That would help with emersion.
That already exists in wow, for the player itself it doesn't really add much but I can see where you're coming from in terms of immersion, especially with how the map is now a continuous open world
The whole overlay map thing. They are literally saying. The game would be better with it. But we can gaslight ourselves into not caring about it It's just cringe. Don't let Blizzard force you to change your view cause they are lazy. They should add it and there is really no excuse
The thing about developing on huge teams like this is you're always hyper focused on a single task, and once you get into that mindset you're only checking whether your work satisfies the requirements and didn't break anything adjacent to it. QA has a list of requirements and test cases, and going through it one item at a time and checking "pass" or "fail"; there is no "this isn't as fun as it could be" box. The problem with these AAA games is the project is so huge it's impossible for any one person to keep the entire thing inside their head. However, that's technically the job of the lead designers, and they don't get a free pass when it comes to the obvious things like "stash tabs will run out with more than one character." That said, unless someone high up in the food chain is sitting and playing through the entire game at key milestones, they aren't going to see the same problems that players do once it gets released. And finally, it sounds like there was a high risk of the game not shipping on time, so I'm pretty sure they cut quite a bit of planned content to make the release date, like everything to do between levels 70-100 (they may have intended to have a world tier 5 at release and couldn't finish it on time).
Games need a new department, not quality assurance, but something akin to "fun and coherence task force" They can have their own metrics but they will give points to each aspect.
The ammount of copium you gotta have to believe Diablo 4 is a better game or even at same level as PoE is insane, The depth in PoE, the currency/crafting system (Gold kekw), skill tree/s, damn i could keep goin forever. Diablo 4 Has no economy (one of the main aspects of a good arpg), Itemization is bland/dull af (again one of the main aspects of a good arpg), paragon board vs PoE skill tree is again bland/dull af, non tradeable uniques, endgame is non existant, the only good thing Diablo 4 had better than PoE is the combat and still is horrible because theres no variety, every class gonna do the same 2 or 3 builds with little variance in them. This is comming from someone who bought the game, but in its current state its not worth it.
I have tried multiple times and I just don't like poe. Doesn't matter how long and how loud poe players say it's the next coming of Jesus in arpg form I won't enjoy playing it. It's ok you don't like d4. You don't have to justify your existence to anyone. Glad you enjoy poe.

The item level scaling to your current character makes me not want to make any alts. Finding items that all require level 100 feels bad.
In D3 I used to have a stash tab for NSFW randomly named items. I can't even have a stash tab for BIS offspec for my main character in d4.

They always seemed lenient to me on their botting practices as long as you were not botting while afk, no automated inputs, just propagated inputs. You didn't need autohot key for numlock shit, but I used that for months before I realized you could just do it w/o a program.. Just anecdotal input that they were lenient with AHK

emp is right QA is exactly what he said. They will have a bunch of test cases like the example he gave, do it then say passed or fail. Game balance and/or tabs etc is prob handled by another team and they prob don't even play the game.

People telling empy hes wrong about what QA is. is fking hilarious guys it takes 1 google search and knowing that QA stands for QUALITY ASSURANCE to know that that is exactly what QA is. Devs asking QA testers for an opinion on what they could change or what they would want is completely optional .
Quinn worries so much about what other people are doing even if it doesn’t affect him. And watching him “interview” people is painful. He spends half the time trying to make them say what he wants rather than their own opinion. Unchecked ego really is difficult to be around.
Quin asking a question and then interrupting Empy with a "what about..." every 5 sec made this unbearable to watch, holy hell please let your guests finnish their sentences at least.
When you open the map you should see your characters hands holding the map, as if they were the ones trying to figure out ''where am I going''. That would help with emersion.
That already exists in wow, for the player itself it doesn't really add much but I can see where you're coming from in terms of immersion, especially with how the map is now a continuous open world

The thing about developing on huge teams like this is you're always hyper focused on a single task, and once you get into that mindset you're only checking whether your work satisfies the requirements and didn't break anything adjacent to it. QA has a list of requirements and test cases, and going through it one item at a time and checking "pass" or "fail"; there is no "this isn't as fun as it could be" box. The problem with these AAA games is the project is so huge it's impossible for any one person to keep the entire thing inside their head. However, that's technically the job of the lead designers, and they don't get a free pass when it comes to the obvious things like "stash tabs will run out with more than one character." That said, unless someone high up in the food chain is sitting and playing through the entire game at key milestones, they aren't going to see the same problems that players do once it gets released. And finally, it sounds like there was a high risk of the game not shipping on time, so I'm pretty sure they cut quite a bit of planned content to make the release date, like everything to do between levels 70-100 (they may have intended to have a world tier 5 at release and couldn't finish it on time).
Games need a new department, not quality assurance, but something akin to "fun and coherence task force"
They can have their own metrics but they will give points to each aspect.

The ammount of copium you gotta have to believe Diablo 4 is a better game or even at same level as PoE is insane, The depth in PoE, the currency/crafting system (Gold kekw), skill tree/s, damn i could keep goin forever. Diablo 4 Has no economy (one of the main aspects of a good arpg), Itemization is bland/dull af (again one of the main aspects of a good arpg), paragon board vs PoE skill tree is again bland/dull af, non tradeable uniques, endgame is non existant, the only good thing Diablo 4 had better than PoE is the combat and still is horrible because theres no variety, every class gonna do the same 2 or 3 builds with little variance in them. This is comming from someone who bought the game, but in its current state its not worth it.
