I'm an Anglican Priest in the Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island and I get to serve in the Parish of St Margaret of Scotland, in the beautiful city of Halifax, NS, that sits on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people.
My pronouns are he/him/his. My theology is primarily Christo-centric - Jesus is at the centre and it is against Him that all values are bounced off. I believe all people are created in the image of God and are children of God and are heirs to the throne of God - no conditions - therefore every single person we meet deserves our love, and respect.

I just can’t feel bad anymore, they repeat the lies and worship a false idol.

It’s my belief that they see the danger. But they believe that this danger will only affect others - liberals, minorities, LGBTQ, the socialists, the intellectuals, and any who don’t agree with them. They don’t see that if there is a way that Trump can annihilate those he considers his enemies, he will only find new ones,because he and his followers need someone to hate.

I saw part of the speech. The worst thing was the applause and cheers from the crowd. As a Christian, I wanted to cry. Jesus doesn’t need Trump to protect “the cross.”
Right, who would orange be protecting. Jesus is no longer on the cross. He died on the cross, was buried and has risen with all POWER. We look to the cross as a reminder of what Jesus already has done for true believers. Jesus died so we might live eternally with HIM. Good News!

We need to protect the church from the harm Trump poses
A Christians purpose is to worship God and be His servant.. If a church pushes hateful people the spotlight and those people are worshipping anyone beyond God..the Father , Son, and the Holy Spirit.. Satan has his claws in them.

I’m an atheist and he brings me peace
I am a Christian and will always be. I left the Catholic church when the sermon was continually telling me how i had to vote AS A CHRISTIAN. My following Christ has nothing to do with how i vote nor making some political leader or political group my god on earth. Being a Christian, for me, is about each choice that i make, reflect Christ’s teachings. It means that ALL people regardless of their individual beliefs, country of origin, financial status or color of skin are God’s children and must be treated with love , compassion and respect. It is about never following anything blindly, but seeking truth. It is about making the lives of those around you better, especially those who are less fortunate or suffering. It is about placing humanity above wealth. Pray to God to open people’s eyes, add “not my will but Yours be done” and mean it.
As the Catholics were the original Christians, it's not that difficult to say that you never left.

I too am a atheist and I found Rev Ed while trying to understand and follow why people continue to support Trump when it’s obvious he’s not Christian and is using gods name in attempt to gain power.
The problem for the church is as Rev Ed said is the cross will be taken down or saved by the church and the conduct of the members of the church.
The problem for true Christians like Rev Ed is that some so called “Christian” churches have leaders and members that don’t follow the teachings of Christ. The members of those type of churches don’t realise they are misled and being used to grift and controlled for power. Trump is also being manipulated (and he doesn’t know it because he is blind to power and needing to save his backside from criminal prosecution) by the leaders of the religious right (who are not teachers of Christ but power hungry charlatans).
Rev Ed is doing what he can in the way he believes is right for his church and members.
My question is why haven’t the leaders of the church such as the Pope directly and powerfully denounced Trump and his manipulators or have I not seen it?
I recently watched the Eisenstein documentary about him and WW2. In the 1930’s he said that despite being a pacifist he realised “an organised force” (the Nazis) “would have to be met by another organised force”. And he was spot on.
The true Christian churches will have to do the same to avoid their reputation being damaged from within. They must become involved in USA politics and protect the reputation of the church and true followers of Christ. They have no other option.
I guess as an atheist and pacifist I’m asking all Christian leaders to get organised and protect the church and many non church people like myself and my family from the chaos being perpetrated by Trump and his backers.

Historians and scholarly consensus shows the contradictions within the gospels, blood line, and nothing was mentioned any where about this character until 3 decades after the supposed death of him. A leader of a church told me that the leaders of the other churches in that area don't want to help people because they are afraid they'd just bring more people wanting help.

And this is also why James Madison argued that no religion should be state sanctioned. He basically said that religion not only doesn't need government support, but also whenever it has had that support, it pushed more people away from itself than attracted. People aren't drawn to religion through force.
The founders were very aware of the conflicts in Europe caused by mergers of religion and government!!

@@pameladavid2887 Uh, I don't know where you got your information about Protestant churches, but they vary a lot-- saying that they all think alike is like saying that all US citizens think alike-- patently not true. Some Protestant churches do a lot for the poor and outcasts. Others do a lot to make MORE poor and outcasts, and be as cruel to them as possible. My view of the Catholic church is that it has the same variety of thought and opinion: some of the biggest helpers of immigrants, for example, and also some of the biggest rapists of children.

Isn’t “Make America Repent” wrong as well, though? As a U.S. American who was raised in a non Christian faith tradition and continues to practice that faith tradition, I find that phrase to be equally problematic.
Countries cannot repent, people can, if they believe that is a thing to do. Forcing the citizenry to repent will only create liars and victims, not in keeping with the teachings of Jesus at all, really.
Countries and individuals should not feel the need to repent, as we all possess the freedom to choose our beliefs and the paths we wish to tread. It is high time for individuals to take accountability for their own actions and choices. It is crucial to maintain a clear separation between the State and the Church, as there exist numerous avenues to connect with the divine, and all are equally valid. Unfortunately, Trump and his followers have opted to traverse a dark and treacherous road paved with falsehoods, animosity, and fear. In doing so, they have forsaken their own unique and moral essence, often referred to as their higher self, in favor of blindly following and idolizing a man who is solely driven by his own ego and thirst for power. Regardless of whom you consider to be your Higher Power, as long as you embrace a path of love and personal growth, it is a righteous one. Remember, we are all interconnected with one another and everything around us. Individuals must introspect and question themselves: Am I truly on the right path for the betterment of my soul?

Rev, keep it coming. I have found I need your mellow voiced sermons as often as I can get them. I am old not "elderly" and was exposed to Christianity in my teens. I have never been comfortable with formal services but have had many conversations with God from park benches, tree stumps, etc. Never hsve heard an audible reply but my life and family are my answers. Adult children, grand children and many great-great grand children healthy, trouble free, and happy are my answers. Bless you, Rev.

A while back when my oldest daughter was in college she had a friend who was lgbtq. What she said to my daughter is what I'm going to say here just because the reference to Mahatma Gandhi is brought this to my memory. What she said was I don't have any problem with Jesus it's his cheering Squad that I don't like. I agree with you 100% which is not new I have agreed with you on 99.9% of everything you've said. I do believe that the biggest threat to the the Christian church to Christianity in general is the church itself.❤

I know you aren't the only cleric to believe this, but it is refreshing to actually hear clergy say it. It truly felt like a weight lifted to hear; knowing that I am not alone in believing this from the bottom of my soul.

I heard a minister online this morning; he is the head pastor of a large church nearby; and I was truly struck by the total ignoring of biblical truths he displayed. They go on and on about abortion totally ignoring other sins. One of those is the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Praying hard these days here! And reading/studying my Bible every day! I have been given clarity these last few days; the clarity that I have been praying for many years. Amen, our witness of God’s words and promises based in faithfulness on God’s Holy Word is what’s missing!
Mam.. I do not mean to diminish your words or what you are going through. But.. I urge CAUTION. We must be careful in those moments we think are clarity. Reason being.. how many times in our lives can we say that we thought.. "This is the way! I gotta go over here and do this!". Only for later to feel and see with new eyes.. wondering.. "Oh what was I thinking! How could I have thought that! I was so so sure! Why did I do that!". Please bring it before the LORD. And ask Him to bring truth and to help you TEST to see if that is really what you need, and not a deception.

She didn't necessarily mean that she has it all figured out . . . just that the Holy Spirit has given her sight on some things, and she is excited to share her excitement. @@howsitgrowin I get what you are saying but there's also the sovereignty of Yhwh. . Yhwh led the Hebrews into the desert to be tested by using Moses. Yeshua was led by the holy spirit into the desert to be tested. Many more scriptures teach on this.
What I'm trying to explain is that a person can do all the right things ie pray, fast, get confirmations, wait, etc and still it turns out bad because Yhwh intended that way. His will be done. The sovereignty is Yhwh.
The church has nothing to fear from the "woke" secular left. You're free to worship however you see fit within reason. Your religious rights end the moment your actions affect the rights of others.
I spent 5 years in a Christian school as a student. They taught about: idols and the anti Christ. And look who many of them are endorsing......I pray more know better.

I am agnostic, and Left leaning. I have no desire to "tear down the cross", or eliminate religion, or anything of the sort. I do not try and convince Christians, or anyone of faith, to not believe in what they believe, or that they are wrong and I am right. I get so frustrated with atheists that do. I believe that we all should be allowed to believe what we choose, and I believe that religion, if practiced as the Bible teaches, plays an important role in humanity. I think we all can learn from one another, regardless of our beliefs, if we are just willing to listen to one another, and have a conversation. I don't agree with Evangelicals, and the damage they and the MAGA crowd are doing to, not only the church, but society as a whole. Especially when they are comparing Trump to God.

Trump needs to be told the Church is not our savior God is. There are many churches and many faiths, and only God has the final word who is to enter the kingdom of God. To believe that Trump can save churches is to put him above God, and he's not.

Thank you Rev Ed for giving your "real" Christian opinion on this man. Your words about Jesus and wisdom holds volumes. Trump has separated me and others i know from the church...i know God does not want men to push ppl away. That is a personal fact in my life.
He may be trying to get in the pockets of the evangelical to help him pay his bills. It's a wonder he doesn't pass an offering plate around at his rallies. He doesnt need to wory about the cross. Jesus has got this. Keep up what you're doing pastor.
