Should you buy an expensive higher end 1080p TV or a cheaper lower end 4K? The low end theory suggests yes, if you’re gaming a certain way. If you’re gaming on a smaller screen, because all those little pixels will be tightly condensed, you will not really see a difference if you multiply the resolution by 4 when you upscale to a 4K TV. if, however, you move up to the big and super big screen TVs because that’s how you like to game, you will see a dramatic difference in quality as the pixels will be more spread out, therefore you will be needing more to get that coveted sharpness.
We’re going to talk about how when you go to the store the 4K TVs look better than the 1080p’s, but how that experience maybe should not warrant you opening up your wallet wider. We’re going to talk about you as a gamer, what you want, and what you think you want. We’re also going to go over some of the numbers and letters in the world of television and what they mean. We’ll give an overview of what interlaced and progressive televisions are, what the differences are between 1080i and 1080p, how the 4K moniker actually comes from cinema screens, aspect ratios, Full HD, 4K and 8K resolution, and a few of some other little things that make gaming TVs super pricey.

Don’t be fooled by TV manufacturers when you buy a TV. Ask for the *Native* refresh rate, because some manufacturers will say “120hz True Motion” or “120hz Motionflow” but the panel is only a 60hz panel. It will NOT play your games at 120fps/120hz, only 60, so do your research and find out the *Native* refresh rate on the panel.

Absolutely! There's no problem with keeping your 1080p TV or monitor for another 12 years if it still meets your needs. While technology continues to advance, and higher resolutions like 4K and even 8K become more common, it doesn't mean that your current setup is obsolete.
1080p resolution is still widely supported and offers a good level of image quality for most viewing purposes. As long as you're satisfied with the picture quality, there's no rush to upgrade to a higher-resolution screen if you don't feel the need. Many people continue to use and enjoy their 1080p displays without any issues.
It's always a good idea to consider factors like your personal preferences, budget, and the intended use of the TV or monitor. As long as your current equipment is still functioning well and meets your needs, there's no urgency to upgrade. Just make sure to maintain it properly, keep it clean, and enjoy your viewing experience to the fullest!

Not really. Hell I bought a 1,600 dollar Sony 4K tv and a ps5 and there’s a bit of difference... just not worth the cost though.

When playing a blu-ray film such as Lord of the Rings on my Panasonic Viera 1080p plasma TV and playing that same blu-ray on my Bang & Olufsen B&O BeoVision Eclipse 65" 4k UHD OLED using the same blu-ray player, I can honestly say even after trying all the setting and variations that the Panasonic Viera plasma TV wins hands down. The darker area is more detailed and discernable, being a touch more natural in the overall picture, the colours are far more intense, and the quality of the film really stand out more. Even when playing first-class 4K transfer on the 4K B&O it only wins the plasma by slim margins such as overall vibrancy and purity and depth and intensity of colour as well as being a bit sharper in picture compared to a blu-ray on the plasma.
Up close the 4K wins hands down, compared to the plasma which you really have to watch at a distance. Between most cheap and expensive 4K TVs I do not notice that much between them with the newset models as I type, but I bought the B&O because they are so well built and have a reputation as being the best. Cheaper models tend to break easier and are not as durable.
It is a shame that you cannot buy a 4K plasma TV. The picture on that would beat any LED, as LED TVs were always a cheaper alternative, certainly no way near as good as plasma. Any alternative for potential buyers is a 4K projector, they look fantastic and you can put them right up near the screen, the advance technology is from the projectors used in cinemas and the picture is intense, the colours are warmer as is the picture compared to plasma and LED, plus the picture movement looks the same as being at the cinema. The best experience for any fan wanting to watch the films as itended, it is just not quite the same on a TV.
For 15 years I had a full HD Rear Projection TV which gave that near as cinematic experience, the picture was just so warm and a touch more natural. They are built like a tank and about as heavy as one. I have a Cabasse 7.2 surround speaker system runnning through a Denon AV receiver on my replacement TVs and I have to say, the built in surround 3D spacious sound in the Rear Projection TV was better, being more wider with a clear defined bass, not the deepest bass but so clear and thunderous at the same time, definitely better than any sound bar, and being tighter in sound than my Cabasse system, and the Cabasse is one of the finest. So rather than coming from all around it spread out from one central area with great effect. The rarity and cost of the replacement bulbs made keeping it a real issue.
If only we could have 4K plasma TVs and 4k Rear Projection TVs, who cares if the Rear Projectors sticks out, minimalism that is the norm now is at the cost of higher-end quality. So you are telling us what new TVs would be best, but I would say my imaginary 4K plasma and 4K Rear Projection would just beat any of those models hands down, although my B&O beats any other 4K LED. I wish you have more types of TVs to compare that use different technologies.
have a sony plasma and did recently buy an oled that instantly went to the return after testing them side by side. Your better off playing 4k movies and shows and downscaling them to 1080p rather than upscaling lower end content. 90% of movies and shows are not 4k. Majority are 1080p and the best stuff is in 480p or 720p. Why have a high resolution when its barely utilized? Other than gaming you barely notice a difference. Then yet again 4k gaming is dumb because why are you going to spend 3k usd to play 4k60fps when a $700 build can do 1080p/1440p at a higher refresh rate.... Something about plasmas brings the color accuracy as close to a qled tv or a more natural color than any oled could produce.

How would ps5 games look on a 1080p Panasonic plasma 60 inch? That’s all I got for now till I can get a 4K tv.
PS4 level with improved graphics. Machine power delivery is for 4k. So I'd advise putting that money into the TV and getting the ps5 later. You're really missing out on the features it's designed for and will receive a product similar to PS4. As so many at the min are just 4k upgrades of PS4 games. They will probably look identical. Buy a cheap 4k TV. It will do, you're obviously missing out on picture quality but you can upgrade later. Try reducing your screen size to 55 to save some $. My advice is wait for new versions of a TV and buy the old ones in sale. Got mine for nearly half the cost.

try a 1080p hdr high refresh rate monitor. 90% of gpus (rx 6800xt/3080) can barely push 140 fps at 1440p in games other than cod and esports. Plus to push anyhting past 1080p over 100 fps costs over 500 watts an hr just using the pc....

4k 240hz is the king. 4090 i9 12900k rocking. If i don’t hit my 180+ frame rate mark i drop to 2k resolution boom sitting at 240fps with better resolution than a 1080 panel.

what about a tv thats 4k 60 hrz that can handle 1080p 120-240hrz and also with hdr. you get the smaller pixels amd higher pixel density of 4k but you get the performance of 1080p and also use less bandwith then o 4k for streaming

Biggest problem now is where do you find a Full HD TV with a screen bigger than 43 inches? They're nowhere to be found or purchased. I still watch on a 50in Full HD LG with True Motion 120 but still it's jittery and jaggy as hell. I'd buy a 60 or 65 full HD is they built one. Fortunately I'm no gamer so I'm not bothered by the woes of gaming on a 4K TV.

Once you go 4k, there's no going back. I cant stand 1080p being so blurry. 4k Max game settings at 60fps/60hz is bliss for me. Any higher is just icing on the cake.

As for not being able to distinguish the pixels from 3 and a half feet maybe for you but for myself I can see the difference from even 7 feet away. I can see that some lines are not as jagged. But it is one of those things that I look for. HDMI 2.0a? We are at HDMI 2.1. Also getting a cheaper television of the same resolution is not always a good idea unless you do not care. I have purchased several different 4K televisions and have noticed pixilation throughout many cheaper models during dark scenes.
Also you saying that Hollywood films being filmed at basically at 24fps. Well Gemini Man says hold my 24fps and I'll raise you 96 extra frames per second.

I play games on 1080p 24 inch 144hz monitors. Last night i took my pc and plugged it into my cheap 4k 42 inch tv and while the tv may have 4x as many pixels it's also 3x the size in surface area which meant sitting across the room rather than at my desk as i do with my normal pc set up. My normal pc set up runs alot smoother with less input lag and never really tests the limits of my rtx3060 even at ultra settings and can use raytracing. whereas at 4k i could run most games at 60fps on high settings but if i tried ultra i would lose half my frame rate and if I turned on raytracing I lost all my frame rate. Obviously this is the difference between a desk monitor with you sat at your desk and a tv that you sit further back from. Screen size is relative to use. Resolution is relative to screen size. And high refresh rate and low input lag are much more important to playing games.

There is no such thing like expensive 1080 or cheap 4k.🤣 The trick it's that everything in 4k being transferred trough a 1080p port will look 10 times better, especially if the ports are HDMI 2.1 and we talk about next gen consoles.

This is not a one to one ratio and I'm sick of people saying it is look as someone that has played on a 60 Hz monitor at 120 FPS. I know the difference between playing at 100 FPS and then turning v-sync on and playing at 60fps. The fact that I can notice the difference just proves this one to one ratio is b******* On top of that 244Hz monitor and 144Hz monitor and no difference at least in terms of what you can actually humanly perceive I know this because my brother got a 240Hz monitor and I thought it would be funny to set it to 144 Hertz and that guy didn't even notice after years and I'm pretty sure he's still has it set to that setting because he just couldn't even tell her it changed it

We're running the 8K VLOC system in our home, so 4K is sooo yesterday.
Everybody needs a 4k in 2021. Try tcl 4 series or any lower end model. It’s much better then a 1080 p

I have a Sony 4k 60 FPS 49 Inc TV that cost me 1200 $ it's way too costly in Bangladesh than USA
The biggest difference is actually in Anti Aliasing. And since games have now moved to TAA which completely blurs everything, the difference between 1080p TAA vs 4k TAA is significant and I would say easily noticeable.

THIS!!!! i would almost say that 4k is almost recommended for any game that uses TAA... TAA on full hd looks like garbage, especially in motion... i tried far cry 5 and halo MCC on FHD and 4k... (4k 27 inch, FHD 24 inch)... ald altough i sit about 90 cm away from my screen, i can easily see the difference in these games... especially the anti aliasing... older games that use MSAA look good on FHD, but TAA, wich is now in any modern game, doesnt look good on FHD...
and i got to say... 4k is really something else...the image gets alot more details, alot better antialiasing and looks alot better because not only textures are increased in resolution, but also effects and stuff

No they aren’t. Screen makes a huge difference. Wouldn’t recommend a TV for pc gaming though unless you can buy a really high end one like Samsungs NEO QLEDS (qn90b for example) or an OLED (LG C2 as an example). The input lag is brutal on lower end tvs, and the lack of 120hz really sucks. But a proper screen will take the way your games look to the next level, even more than playing on higher settings. Would much rather keep my LG C1 OLED and play on medium or low setting than play on a cheap TV at ultra.
Edit: It was still under $1000 though. It was $950.
