    Caan. Matched betting has been completely destroyed in the last 6 months or so to the point where any possible activity that indicates such actions, your offers are instantly removed and you get stake restricted. It’s not just making a profit. There is NO where to complain to as advertising standards won’t support you and IBAS will only deal with betting disputes. The Gambling Commission are totally useless in supporting punters to stand up to these restrictive activities

    Bookies should be legislated against restricting successful gamblers, ironically such legislation would hardly reduce bookies profits, yet it would be of huge benefit to the betting eco system and community as a whole, it’s still entirely possible for bookies to exist under such conditions, they’d just have to sharpen their odds and offers a bit instead of spending so much resources on perfecting the art of profiling between smart betters and the juicy addicts they seem to love.

    The thing that really boils my piss is how you can sign up and deposit in about 90 seconds with no checks at all yet as soon as you withdraw (or try to) they then throw id/address/bank checks at you and deliberately make it difficult for you to get your money. Of the 100 bookies I have opened, only ONE (Betstars) did those checks first. Disgusting practices.

    I agree with you 100% There is no differentiation between the recreational gambler and those with a problem in the eyes of the bookmaker. However, you seem to make a very comfortable living out of an industry that is heavily reliant on problem gamblers because they will increase the liquidity at the exchange meaning you can make money. No disrespect-I actually fully support your sentiment-but the dichotomy of your argument has to be acknowledged.

    Disgraceful how punters are being treated. I only bet on Greyhound racing, and look for the best early price available. I'm now restricted by Skybet, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, and William Hill... What I don't understand, is all I'm doing is taking the prices these bookmakers are offering... The fact that I back a fair percentage of winners is down to my skill and luck.. I have a modest stake, and I'm forced to accept the prices they offer me. I can't even request a better price.. It's criminal.. This is my hobby, and these bookmakers are trying to stop it... They're happy enough to take my money when I'm losing, but don't like to pay out when I win.. Something has to be done to make online betting fair for all...

    The problem is how you educate and make people turn to the exchanges. Many of them are too lazy to learn the very simple to understand basics of what laying is and how could profit from the difference between back and lay odds, or how they give away value to bookies. Every day I hear from people "It looks too complicated to me", "I don't need to be explained fancy maths, how laying works and other philosophies. Look at me: betting 1 pound on astronomical odds and turning it into a grand. Simpler than what you're saying over there", "They're all the same, gonna limit your account after you'll be on a winning streak"(even though I've explained him countless times that it's not a bookie). I think the average gambler still confuses betting exchanges with traditional bookies. Or maybe in UK is different.
    I remember this "pro" gambler/tipster in my country, "teaching" people "winning strategies" at bookies he's been paid to advertise(Betfair Sportsbook included). Of course people reacted furious and doubtful. And when the time came to advertise Betfair's Exchange, the reactions were no different. I wonder what went through Betfair's Marketing Dept, would they expect to make people aware of a better product by linking it with a guy who promotes the same garbage day by day? It creates a big confusion, just like having Sportsbook and Exchange on the same website.

      So according to you, exchanges are not allowed to earn money from the services they provide? At least they are transparent and upfront about it. 2% of the net market profit, take it or leave it.

    • @derekboyt3383
      @derekboyt3383 Před 4 lety

      mzaja0 - Exchanges should be allowed to make money. Exchanges have to process every transaction which can use a significant amount of technological resources. Their costs increase when more people are looking at data in real-time. Finally, banks and card companies can often charge a percentage when utilizing their services. They could draw up a very complicated scale that helps people see exactly what will be charged or they can do what they are doing based on a percentage of winnings. 2% seems relatively fair because a transaction fee per wager would likely be higher if there was a large number of bets (which seems to be the case with many strategies.) For simple wagers 2% seems a little high but most people aren’t going to make profits doing only this.

I have been match betting for few years, and never had a account closed in one day, usually it takes few months, despite taking ONLY value odds, price boost etc. (I dont do mug bets).
    Another issue is: you talking about 2 extremes: One is you, well known trader and other compulsive gambler. Most of bookmaker customers are in a scale between this 2 extremes, and they have zero interest in value, and how all betting world works, they just want to bet on their fav team or have bit of fun on horse racing or casino and they are willing to pay for that.
    Because majority of customers are "happy" bookmaking is (and will be) lucrative business.

    Stake limitations are not a new thing, match booking is not suitable for winners. Profitable bettors aren't welcome in that shitty business model. I don't even know why actual profitable bettors still bet with theses bookies, it's time to move to sports trading (yes, it would be a whole new world for some people, but it shouldn't be hard for the ones who are used to bet). I mean, Betfair, Orbit or Betdaq will never limit you (well, at least in Betfair exchange that will never happen, can't comment about their bookie). They are NOT only profiting from people's addictions, desperations and well being. They are making things worst !! Its shocking that as a country we are only just looking into the implications of mental health as a whole and those companies are allowed to profit from vulnerable people and take no responsibility for their actions. They are meant to contribute a certain % of the profits to help support people having gambling difficulties. But they dont! Be interesting to know how much tax they pay too ! Caan you are absolutely correct, it would be very easy to spot people betting irresponsibly and be to step in. But ummm that wouldn't make them any money. If a pro punter had 10 accounts he could bet to win 20K a race and if there's 50,000 pro punters then it would be game over anyway. No point complaining about it.... It depends on the sport you are trading. Football? Basketball? Horse racing? They all have different markets, football has tons of markets, trade in those you feel the most comfortable, if you are talking about horse racing, well you have 3 TBP (or 2, maybe 4 or 5 depending on how much runners are about to participate), each way market, in some races you can bet between two horses (horse 1 versus horse 2, for example), and the most important one: the only winner market. It's all about you, bet in the ones you feel comfortable. And about the bank, well... if you are just getting into this and you have no experience please use a really small bank (€50, €100, €150 or maybe €200), if I'm not mistaken Caan recommends to start with €200 and opening operations with €5 which seems more than reasonable to me, I would recommend €100 with the minimum required bet (€2) for getting started, but that's just me, please, simply don't use money you will later regret losing. Be responsible, learning takes a lot of time and money, you will become better gradually
