    We need more content like this - objective and giving it straight. And to answer your question about why they cater to whales, I suspect it's because the target market is Asia, where the mobile gaming market is much larger and where people don't have as much time (or have to pay for their time like PC Bang cafes) for PC gaming as in the west. Culturally, they don't have the same bias about fair play as westerners, nor is gambling (loot boxes for example) considered taboo there.

    • @rezarfar
      @rezarfar Před 7 měsíci

      It makes sense too, i asked my Asian friend why they don't mind loot boxes and he made a valid point that i couldn't refute.
      See I'd spend $90 per month on brand new games for my consoles, some of thiss games I'd play for a week, some less, some more.
      But the time I'd spend would vary from 10 hours to 150 hours depending on the game. These games have no loot boxes and are your standard console games, all normal stuff really.
      But when I'm not playing those games, I'll play a game called Runescape, I'll put my vast majority of my time on Runescape and Runescape is free to play, i can even exchange online currency for membership, so i do.
      Now in terms of hours spent per month, Runescape takes the majority by a WIDE margin, but i refuse to pay for it, even though i have the most fun on it. The most time on it, yet I'll play it for free and attack the developers if they try to monetize it.
      We Westerners are the ones who got it wrong, we will pay top dollar for a, now $60 for games that take 20-30 hours to beat and we'll seal clap and get excited over it.
      But we mostly play free to play games where the developers dont charge us a dime to play if we wanna play for free, but give us the option to pay if we want better stuff and we'll attack them and call it "bad practice".
      We're entitled consumers 😂

    personally i think if you want to play f2p and be compairible to the current players its best to just level up and play for fun, and wait to see if they keep releasing f2p friendly content as of now they just made it eaiser to get legendary gems as f2p so thats nice and raises hopes for more such updates i know my clan is p2w and f2p mix

    Nice review, good to hear some more positive views on the game. I always wondered whats the grind for the F2P player to get even close comparable level, but that seems impossible with the rune system. The game seems fun and the gameplay looks solid. Would deffinetly try and play this if there wasnt this whole monetization greedy leeching.
    I personally cant see me even installing it on any device to support this p2w strategy where all competitive aspects are negated by credit card. Any good item that you have just reeks of money.

      As for your question. Answer from my point of view is simple. The money influx from whales is like meteor , but happy one. When it happens it happens BIG. So while game is hot they are exploiting that factor. And they will do it as long as they can. When that factor dies out, they will start switching to other people. But the thing is, that factor right now , its counting milions $$ daily! And that is super fast and quick income that is super favorable to them. Its cash in cash out, then switch to dry milk. What i am trying to say, is that income is monstrous. Over one month they grabbed more money then they would have over the entire year. People are greedy , people are gamblers and that is profitable

    • @Newftorious
      @Newftorious  Před 2 lety +2

      I completely understand. If the monetization was at a reasonable level I personally have no problem paying for a battle pass or cosmetics in a free to play game. Blizzard went too far with this one IMO. Unfortunately mobile games and some mmos have been leading us down this path for a long time. Could be such a good game. I think the outrage for this game is a bit extreme but I hope it actually results in some good changes in the industry but I'm very skeptical

    At the end the author asked "why mobile games are whales oriented". It is about finding people with addictive personalities. Most of customers refuse to pay for F2P, but you let them play to be a cannon fodder - potential opponent for a whale to make him feel better that he achieves sth in comparison to other players. Whales will be les than 5% of a playerbase but they will generate 50% of income. Whales are not necessarily rich, they just spend a lot and regularly. Sunken cost phallacy makes them loyal customers. As for your Walmart example- think of it as of free samples of whiskey. Most will just be there for a freebie. However some will spend their last money on bottles, the more they get wasted the more you can extract from them. F2P games are predatory as F.

    Do you think the gameplay is better than other games such as Diablo 2R, Diablo 3 and Path of Exile? To me it just looks like a substandard version of better games in the genre. I get that people say relatively it's a good game on mobile, but then I just wonder who is playing mobile games over PC/console.

      It's very close to d3. There are definitely better options on pc. Still a fun game and I enjoyed the mmo aspects but the p2w ruined it for me. I can see why an arpg fan would want something like this to kill time on their phone but the p2w is way too much

    The reason why most mobile games are cash grabs and only care about the 1% that spends $20-500k is because the goal is to make as much money in the shortest amount of time if you constantly follow that regiment you end up making more money even in the long run with new games coming out every year or two unlike cars that last for decades

    • @Newftorious
      @Newftorious  Před 2 lety

      I think because they aren't sure if they can make a good enough product that they resort to cash grabs. They would rather put out a low effort product and try to trick people into spending money on it.

    I enjoyed the game even without spending a penny. I played it for the story and to have fun with new friends in the clan and warband that I joined. Being a hardcore whale-level gamer is not my intention. Plus, the community is surprisingly friendly and helpful to newbies. and all online games are literally pay-to-win because all of them follow the same marketing strategy of making money. Tell me a game that isn't P2W although some do it in a very subtle way that gamers may not be able to recognize it as such. and on my own personal opinion it's only fair that those people who are willing to spend lots of money becomes stronger than those who don't, I am not bitter about it.

    Usually, there is a tradeoff between retention and revenue. The more greedy you are, the fewer players you have in the long run. On the other hand, the more you care about retention, the less money you make. As you mentioned, the sweet spot for most industries is not shifted toward whales.
    Things are different in the mobile world. Most of us treat smartphone games as a quick break between our usual activities. It means that retention is flawed no matter what you do. There is even more to it. 1-2% of players who stay significantly longer than others happen to be also the payers.
    So, in the end, the sweet spot is to care about whales. Of course, it's working like that because of the free-to-play microtransaction business model.

    Yeah... There are some major things you totally failed to mention.
    Restrictions man. If one is super casual , like 2 hours a day, ignore this post and move on. Otherwise read.
    Restrictions:... where to begin , game is designed with crippling limit. Once player obtains 6 uniques per day its done. No drops for you.
    Farming dungeons? forget about it. Limitations on exp are monstrous. What that means is that you can do what ever is daily and then after that ur done. There is nothing more to gain from anything.
    Farming normal gems? Same as everything above. Drop limits and bye bye.
    Doing more then one hidden dungeon? Forget about it. Nothing drops from second dungeon at all.
    So if you are grindy player. Know this, 3 hours daily top and you do everything game has to offer. After that u can leave as u wont get anything until tomorrow or unless u pay.
    There are more limitations i just gave quick example. There are people with more experience then me , that compiled list of all gimping stuff in game. Just google it.
    And as last note.. Crashes, man.. crashes are absurd. It will crash and crash and crash and crash ..and it will repeat crashing. Especially when u are doing some event. I had counted 32 crashes in that "fracture" event.
    P.S
    Forgot to say...rather important.
    If anyone has played d3 before. An actual D3 , then one will know , that this? This diablo immortal is like washed , dryed, cripled, butchered arms and legs cut of version of the game you know as D3. From spells to items, to bonus on items, dungeons, Greater rifts?.. Forget about this. GO back to D3
