Also, we will practice calculating the median and interpreting the result. In order to find the median, we arrange the numbers from least to greatest, the look for the numerical value that lies in the center of the data set. The center value is then the median. If we have an even number of data points, then we won't have a single center value. In that case, look for the two values that lie in the center and average them to find the median. We prefer to use the median when outliers are present in the data set.

    Can you please make a part 2 of the “introduction to chemistry” video? Explaining atomic structures and bonding, stoichiometry, metals, the periodic table, electrolysis, and organic chemistry.. if these are too many topics for 1 video then please make more parts if you can, but covering all theses main topics of chemistry would help me a lot. Your way of teaching is so unique and simple so it would be really nice if you would make a part 2 of the chemistry video you made 5 years ago

    Hi there, I enjoy watching your program. This particular subject really touched my curiosity. What is the percentage of the number would you consider to be outlier?

    Can you explain for me when do we use the median, mode, mean, or range whenever the question asks us to find the average?

  • @hemarajue2736
    @hemarajue2736 Před 2 lety

    It make sense to remove outliers from the data sets. For instance, in a group of 5 trees having heights 2,3,4,5, and 100 feets, their mean doesn't represent reasonable height.

    The median and mode are the best averages. The mean is a terrible average.

    What happens if you have six data points, what would the median be?

    • @hemarajue2736
      @hemarajue2736 Před 2 lety

      Suppose if we have six data points 1,2,3,4,5,and 6,the median lies between 3 and 4 which is found by calculating their mean i.e (3+4)/2=3.5.

      @@MathAndScience Yes I know, i just think it would have made more sense to choose an example where they are different. I could imagine that people who don’t understand this would wonder “why are we bothering with median - they’re the same”

      I hear what you are saying but I expect students to view the entire lesson which has many examples showing they aren’t the same. Thanks, jason
