  • One of the best things to do in Busan is to see a KBO (Korean Baseball Organization) game. The locals are very passionate about their team and they come out in force to see them each and every home game. A game is more like a three hour rock concert than a sporting event but that is the best part. Lots of cheering and dancing along with great food and amazing people, seeing a game here should be on everyone’s bucket list.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) was founded in 1982 and is one of the most highly regarded leagues in the baseball world. The inaugural KBO game saw the MBC Chungyong defeat the Samsung Lions 11-7 on March 27, 1982. South Korea’s passionate “cheering culture” is a big part of the baseball experience, often making games seem more like a rock concert than a sporting event.
The Lotte Giants were founded as an amateur baseball team of the Korea Baseball Association in Seoul, South Korea on 6 May 1975. On 22 February 1982, the Giants became professional and moved to Busan, the second-largest city in South Korea. They are owned by the Lotte Corporation and have won two championships in 1984 and 1992.
To see a game in Korea is a once in a lifetime experience. You don’t need to be a sports fan to enjoy a game. The crowd is there to sing and dance as well as cheer for their team. You can sample food that is only available in Busan as well as sample local beers. It’s an amazing environment and well worth a visit if you want to experience part of Korea.

The atmosphere of a game in Busan is electric. It’s like going to a 3 hour rock concert. People always ask me how it compares to Japanese baseball. I would say the best I’ve ever seen was in Hiroshima. Here is a short video I made from there a few years back.

They turn more money in than the Miami Marlins on most games

Crowds at marlin games are pretty sad. If it wasn’t for tv and revenue sharing they would’ve moved or folded long ago. I’ve been to a few marlins games and enjoy baseball in Asia much more.

Very popular with the crowd. I loved the spinning first pitch. The first game I went to they had some Kpop singers. They did a backflip right after throwing the first pitch that was fun. Appreciate the information and thanks for watching. I hope I captured the amazing atmosphere of a game in Busan.

Great video. One day I want to watch a game there. Didn't manage to go to a game when we were in Seoul but I did see some on tv a few times and I bought a Doosan Bears cap. Someone is getting me an LG Twins cap too. If we go again then we're definitely going to a game.

You will love it. I plan on going back again this year. Seoul is part of the plan but it would be tough to be better than Busan. The fans were amazing. It’s not as good as Japan but pretty close.

Lotte giants and the Samsung lions are the only remaining original founding teams of the kbo. Lotte is named after Charlotte from I think "pride and prejudice" (I can't recall which book the company founder named his company after). But the company has its origins in japan by a korean, started as a chewing gum company but expanded into many businesses including fast food.
I was in Daegu few months ago, I noticed a stranger girl was watching baseball highlights the whole bus ride. That's something I had never seen my whole life in usa. I seen American female baseball fans for sure, but I think baseball appeals to women in Korea more.

Thanks for the information. The baseball culture in Japan and Korea is very interesting. In Japan the fans have meetings to learn new cheers before games after they pick up a new player. I talked to many of the fans there, male and female and they were all into the sport. I only went to one game in Taiwan, in Taipei, and they loved to cheer/ dance but the passion didn’t seem to be as much. I plan on catching some baseball around Seoul next season and a few more in Taiwan if possible. Thanks for watching and appreciate the interest in my channel.

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching! I’ve been to Seattle many times. I really like the M’s stadium. It’s top 5 in my opinion. A few years back me and my brother finished all 30 MLB stadiums and now I’m working on the rest of the world. Lol
Busan is worth a special trip to see a game. I can’t wait to visit again. I think I will do a few games around Seoul to compare but it would be tough to beat in Korea.

@@derekjohnson77 I went there also. It is one of my best baseball memories.
Did you see my Taiwan video from the Guardians game? The crowd wasn’t as big there but I really had a good time. I think later on in the season and maybe a weekend game it would be much better. We went during the week and I think game 4 or 5 of the season. I also need to get back to Japan for a few more games. Hiroshima is probably the best place to go there but anywhere is great.
I haven’t been to Jeju but it’s on my list (along with about a million other places lol). Busan was great. I would rank it below Taipei but above Singapore. Very underrated for a tourist destination.

Very good record! This is the characteristic of Korean baseball support. In addition, in terms of the style of the baseball field, compared to Japan and Taiwan, South Korea and the United States are more similar!

I agree with the style of play being similar to the US. The crowds are much more fun. I went to 2 games and had a third rained out. I can’t wait to go back next year.

That they were. When it was time to dance they were absolutely bouncing. The Japanese player, #2 on the Giants, is their favorite player. All of the people around me were family or friends and I was offered lots of beer and Soju. They asked to be in my video so I was happy to put them in a few times. Days like this always show me why people need to get out and see things and meet new people.

I've been to a lot of games in Japan, but never Korea. Will try next year. I'm surprised they have huge English signs saying "self ticketing" but the screens then have no English option?

    • @endlessjourneytravels
      @endlessjourneytravels  Před 9 měsíci

From everyone I’ve talked to the Busan games are the best for atmosphere. I was planning on Seoul this year but I ran out of time. I will try again next year also.
Ya there was no English option on the self service machines. I flagged down one of the workers and he came over and helped me go through the Korean menus. After it was all said and done I ended up going to the second floor and paying cash to avoid service fees on my credit card. The machines do not take cash. For the second game I went to I had a Korean guy buy the tickets through the app and I gave him the cash and bought him a beer. I had to print them through the machines using a code from the app. When it was all said and done the best route is to just buy from the window on the second floor. It was the easiest. Well worth the effort because I really enjoyed the games.
I’ve been to several games in Japan also. I like it better than Korea but any baseball game is fun. I’ve done Taiwan as well which was great. I made a video from there if you want to compare.

I’m planning on a game in Chiba on Saturday. I have the tickets already just waiting for my flight. I will try to make a video of it as well. I’ve been to Chiba before, not the best stadium but it’s still baseball. :)
