Prasat Pram ប្រាសាទប្រាំ Koh Ker UNESCO Site - Picturesque Temple - Cambodia 2024
Prasat Pram ប្រាសាទប្រាំ
Koh Ker is a remote archaeological site in northern Cambodia, about 120 kilometers away from Siem Reap and the ancient site of Angkor. It is a jungle-filled region that is sparsely populated. Koh Ker was the short-lived capital of the Khmer empire between 928 and 944 AD, with an impressive number of temples built during this period.
One of the most picturesque temple in this area is Prasat Pram.
Pram Temple, also known as Prasat Pram, is a must-see temple in the Koh Ker archaeological site. It is a group of three square brick temples built on a common terrace, fronted by two “library” buildings, one in brick and one in laterite. The temple is known for its unique architecture and stunning surroundings, with fig strangler trees wrapping around its towers.
The site is made up of five reasonably well-preserved towers; 3 main towers on a central platform, facing east, a west-facing laterite tower to the north (possibly a 'library' and another west-facing brick tower to the south, (thought to be a fire sanctuary as indicated by the diamond-shaped holes.
The quiet site is located in the forest to the south of the majority of Koh Ker sites, features extensive ficus roots and is a particularly picturesque one. It’s a hidden gem and i would recommend a short visit if you are in the area.

      Thank you for the information. I have also been told that the word khom comes from an account written in Chinese about the people in Lavo (Lopburi). They pronounced Khmer as khom and that was the origin of the word. The effort to erase the Khmer by some is disturbing. It’s part of the regions history and should be celebrated not marginalized. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the information.

    • @endlessjourneytravels
      @endlessjourneytravels Před 2 dny

      The use of concrete is very minimal. Most of it is the roof over the galleries. They also use rebar to hold it together. The rest is sandstone blocks. Many of the design elements from Angkor is still used but it is different in many ways like the garden area with several buildings and Buddha images. As far as using modern technology that wouldn’t affect it being copied. If you use an elephant to drag a sandstone block or use a modern crane to move it that doesn’t matter. I agree with you that it’s nice that Khmer architecture can inspire. I really enjoyed visiting here. I’ve been to Angkor Wat many times an it’s one of my favorite places on earth to visit. This temple will be a place I will stop at again when I visit Buriram. I hope the size of it comes through the video. I flew the drone around because I wanted people to see how giant this place really is. Thanks for spending a little bit of your time on my channel, I appreciate it.

It’s not just the soldiers but how life changing a simple structure like this is. When the river is high you can cross it with your family to go get food if needed. How did Thailand build Angkor Wat? It took 30 years to build and was completed in 1150. What year did Sukhothai declare its independence? That was 1238 when they declared their independence from the Khmer Rouge Ayutthaya was founded in 1350. Explain this to me please. Angkor Wat took 30 years to build, 300,000 people and 6,000 elephants. It was not built by a few slaves from modern day Thailand but was a full state sponsored operation. As far as Thailand colonizing Cambodia for 432 years can you please give more details on this. After the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767 King Taksin reunified Siam (modern day Thailand). The area of Siem Reap was taken. This was the largest extent of the kingdom. This area was controlled until King Rama IV traded it to the French colony of Cambodia for Trat and the area around it so native Thais could be unified with the country. This was roughly 4 generations. How do you get 432 years? I would like more information on this from you please.

      So you are saying that Thailand built Angkor wat? King Rama IV traded this area of Cambodia for the area of Thailand around Trat. There was no theft involved. It was a treaty between 2 nations. As far as Angkor Wat being Thai it was completed in 1150. Sukhothai declared its independence from the Khmer in 1238 and Ayutthaya was founded in 1350. Both of these dates are after the construction that took 30 years to complete. It was also constructed by as many as 300,000 people with 6,000 elephants. It was not constructed by slaves as some believe. So please don’t tell me that I don’t know what I’m saying. You write in Thai speak to me like I’m an idiot. Why would you do this? I also wonder why you talk about this because it has nothing to do with the video. I show the temple. That is what the video is about. I let people decide for themselves if it is a copy of Angkor Wat.

    Actually, there were also rooms along the sides of the step-well. It was used during the hot summers. That's the reason for the levels. They started their afternoon on the top level and went down to lower levels as summer progressed. It was cooler than the palace.

      So Thais built Angkor Wat in 1150? If that is the case there must be many temples scattered around what is now Thailand that resemble Angkor Wat. Please let me know where they are so I can go make videos of them. I would love to see them. I’ve seen hundreds of temples like this in Cambodia and the Issan area of Thailand but from what you are saying there must be more since it was built by Thais.
