  • In this video we route the individual channels from EZDrummer 3's (Toontrack) Mixer Tab into the Ableton Live's channels. This will give us more control when mixing with EZdrummer 3.

    Thanks for this awesome video! I switched to Live 12 from ProTools earlier this year, and I was kind of dreading figuring this out, but your tutorial made it super easy! I love the beautiful drum sounds in EZD3 and it’s great to have access to them in the new DAW. 💫

    Great vid, Shawn! I somehow missed this one when you uploaded it. I've known how to do this in Ableton for a while now, but I still picked up a few pointers. One question I've always had... not sure if you know the answer... when using this method, I'm assuming we lose any buss processing that Toontrack may have added to a preset, correct? Like, if they added a Tape drive controllable with a macro in EZD3, that gets lost in this, right? There's no way to route those?

    • @ShootieSchool

      If you turn an effects knob on the Mixer Tab and no tracks highlight in orange, that effect will be excluded.

    Thank you for this! Love your teaching style, it's super clear and I really learnt a lot. I have a question: If I wanted to toggle between several drum samples from EZ Drummer 3 within the same performance, will this method work or how do I need to modify it?

    • @ShootieSchool
      @ShootieSchool  Před 2 měsíci

      Live would be a headache. In your DAW mixing if would be simplest to simply use two separate instances of EZD. Things need to load, so would need a workaround for changing sounds in realtime.

    In ezd3 Bright room modern rock basic, there is 2 channel more: OH Kit and Parallel Compresion. Should parallel compresion be in separate channel 21/22 or together with some other output?

    • @ShootieSchool
      @ShootieSchool  Před 25 dny

      If it was an important channel to me I would isolate it. There's no rules though.

    Im using an Roland TD17 e-drum mapped to the Ezdrummer plug in in Ableton. Is there an easy way to be able to „record“ the midi notes on an seperate track that is linked to the Plug in. So i can record a song using the method as described in this video with the multitracks. But im also able to adjust and quantize the midi notes on an ableton midi track and not only in the Ezdrummer plug in ?
    I hope this question is understandable 😂

    • @ShootieSchool
      @ShootieSchool  Před 3 měsíci

      If I understand, you record enable the instrument track that easy Drummer is on.

    Great tutorial as always Shawn. Just a little heads up on using bus routing in Ableton, it has an internal quirk where it doesn't work as it does in most DAW's and it's best to just make an extra audio track and group all you tracks into that instead. Good explanation of the issue in this video, I've timestamped the point where it's addressed. Hope it's helpful, thanks again for all your awesome content!

      @@ShootieSchool Ok thanks for your tutorial. But it is possible for me to use cymbal choke by using these Apps right?

    • @ShootieSchool
      @ShootieSchool  Před 4 měsíci

      @@richardy3n When EZDrummer receives an Aftertouch Midi Message it will choke a cymbal. Which is common with drum software. Your solution is not within EZDrummer. For exmaple, in Pro Tools you have to enable Aftertouch. Older versions of Ableton weren't even capable. Some drum manufacturers don't send aftertouch messages. So you need to research your DAW or Ekit to find the option or possibly discover the limitation.
