  • In this video we route the individual channels from EZDrummer 3's (Toontrack) Mixer Tab into the Cubase's channels. This will give us more control when mixing with EZdrummer 3. We also discuss a mono channel workaround.

    I am very much in the frustration camp regarding not having 32 mono output support directly within SD3. It seems like it should be possible to use busses and pans within SD3 mixer to route, for example, KickIn and KickOut to channel 1-2 without checking that box. Then, at least the driver channel utilization is fully optimal with one mic per channel. That would then reduce the problem of splitting those optimized stereo outputs from SD3 into mono channels to manipulation within the DAW. Within the DAW, while not optimal, it SEEMS like one should be able to route the SD3 stereo channels to a stereo bus to start but then duplicate the bus by sending it to two additional busses. You would now have the same 2 mics on each second level bus, one hard left and one hard right. At that point, there has to be a way to just drop one side in a conversion to mono, but I don't know how to do that. So frustrating. BTW... your video here IS the best explanation I've seen by far for how to get as close to being able to do this as one would want to. Thank you.

    • @ShootieSchool
      @ShootieSchool  Před 2 měsíci

      Thank you! My assumption is since this has been a hot topic for a while and SD4 only has so may new things that can be added, i think they will surpass the 32 channels out and give mono. Just an assumption though. We shall see.

    QUESTION: @13:54 you say there are 2 kick ins when there is only one kick in and one kick out... My question is, if you hard pan left/right each of these, will you get the mono signal you are seeking?
    I'm not trying to be a smart-alec, i'm literally working on figuring this out for myself right now.
    ***EDIT*** NOPE.... I get removing the tracks now, Thank you for your awesome tutorials

    Thanks for this useful mono guide, Shawn! Should I work with mono only mono plugins in this case?

    • @ShootieSchool
      @ShootieSchool  Před 4 měsíci

      I can't imagine all situations. I will generically say if you're routing stereo signals to mono, you might have a need to pair them back together like I did here with the Overheads and such.

  • @PlagueRat-
    @PlagueRat- Před 5 měsíci +1

    Looks like they are still Cubase stereo tracks. Maybe hard pan some of the EZ drummer tracks. So kick in 1/2 hard pan to 1. Kick out 1/2 hard pan to 2…. I don’t know if that makes sense?

    • @ShootieSchool
      @ShootieSchool  Před 5 měsíci

      Stereo or not in cubase, they still are heard as mono and can be panned. But you make a great point I wish I went over. One could get twice as many tracks routed by hard panning out of EZD. Nice!

    • @PlagueRat-
      @PlagueRat- Před 4 měsíci

      @@ShootieSchool I tried the panning thing on my new project, while it did work. The left and right were weaker signals than centered so my OCD couldn’t hack it, so 15 mics on dope drums still not to bad, thanks for this video I didn’t know you could solo out on Cubase. My drum tones from “original mix” are sick AF now🤘

    Is there a way to save the mixer output configuration in EZDrummer 3?

    • @ShootieSchool
      @ShootieSchool  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Look in the Preset Menu and look for the last option> Output Routing. See if that does what you're looking for.
